  • WHAT IS HAPPENING HAHA. All I'm hearing is "aaahhHHhhhhh oohhhh eyyyeyyy".

  • Sorry, this is total nonsense. If you can't reach the note, sing the song in a higher key, don't ruin your voice! This would be better posted in "the WORST singing tip videos."

  • Starts to sound sensual at 1:33 lol

  • I do that crap in the shower trying to be funny, this is serious? I can't sing...lol

  • so is vocal fry something that is limited to how loud you do it? Because its easy to do when you arent being loud. But as you try to make it louder the fry goes away and it becomes clear.

  • Так любой может...

  • you look so baked

  • THUMBS UP FOR GUTTERALS!

  • Lol. Kinda turned into tuvan throat singing there at the end.

  • i thought the low ones are called pedal tones

  • Fry is the best thinkg ever... it's what some bands use to scream like TDWP AA BFMV COBHC

  • Interesting demo. Some low note fans say that fry is cheating. You however make a case for using fry to fulfill a legitimate musical purpose. Bravo!

  • @Agorante Cheating? They're douches. Singing isn't an Olympic sport. It's a subjective art and if a technique enhances the character of a sound, how is that cheating? Right?

  • im here from cnn

  • Speaking of fry... this guy looks kind of fried.

  • Haha This guy is great!

  • @sorcerio I suppose you can think of it as falsetto in the opposite direction.

  • I've been doing this since I was about five. But I don't do it anymore since its too mainstream. ;P

  • Just to be clear, vocal fry is a bad thing on the whole and people don't need to be encouraged to do it outside of medical supervision...

  • There was a recent study done on vocal fry in speech and it seems that more college women are speaking with elements of vocal fry in their voice than in the past. One of the ideas is that the influence of modern female pop singers like Kesha and Spears have influenced the way women want to talk. Another is that vocal fry sounds a bit more "manly" or "authoritative."

  • V-neck. Oh yeahhhh *low vocal fry*

  • This guy is a fucking idiot he's trying to be

    Like a celebrity

  • @syrianization

What the hell are you on about?

  • This video got me lawlinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn ( <---Vocal Fry!)

  • Comment removed

  • lol this guy is retarded

  • That would be autotune - whatever the heck that studio wizardy is that deceives tweens into thinking certain people can "sing."

  • Came here because there's some article on "vocal fry." You know what real singers do? CHANGE THE KEY. Whatever is being demonstrated here is not very effective and sounds potentially damaging for serious singers (especially classical). I suspect it's only useful for image-oriented pop with autotone and severe mixing/production. If you aren't Sarah Vaughan, you aren't. And Sarah Vaughan wasn't Julie Andrews. People should work properly with what they have (and, again, find the right key).

  • sleeping when teaching us singing lessons is not polite dude lol

  • So....vocal fry is the same noise we'd make with our mouth to imitate a frog when we were kids. I...um...wouldn't really call it singing. Any woman who wants to hit low notes needs to take lessons listening to Ella Fitzgerald music.

  • wtf was that about? Nothing to do with college age women like I was led to believe.

    Darn you Jason Kottke!

  • I can't sing for shit so I learned how to do this!

Now I'm a complete loser dipshit who wears stupid hats.

  • ma Ma mA MAAAAAAAAAAAAA

  • reddit will give you viruses. i stay away from that site.

  • @mistaspot1 Really? If so, thanks for that tidbit of paranoia. What site doesn't give you viruses these days?

  • Damn you reddit

  • i came here from digg

  • ha, reddit kinda made me search youtube for vocal fry, and I got this guy

  • reddit brought me here

  • If you wanna reach low notes, why not just try a death growl?

  • @kilulafo that is actually a vocal fry

  • @cnm2230 w/e

  • I am a virgin loser that came here from reddit FTFY

  • I came here from reddit

  • Aw man, I used to do this as a kid all the time with the word "mar."

  • Compose your own song by pressing combinations of 2, 5, and 8.

  • "...and this is Virgil Mastercard, heritor of the Mastercard fortune"

  • For all those who think the Vocal Fry Technique is painful and kills your voice, it doesnt, if you do it right. Especially with Screaming. Its one of the Scream techniques that has the lowest chance of hurting yourself.

Melissa Cross, Zen of Screaming. Watch it.

  • spam "2" for a broken steven hawkin

  • he sounds like a cross between george clooney and sylvester stalone :P

  • :o he sang music of the night from phantom of the opera :O

  • Is that vocal fry the grunt thing Britney Spears used to do in her first albums? Like *vocalfry*I think I did it again *vocalfry*I made you believe we're more than just friends, *vocalfry*Oh baby it might seem like a crush but it doesn't mean that I'm seriou*vocal fry*ouuus.

  • @maybemab1 yeah totaly good point haha :) sexy vocal fry

  • @songsmadeforyou That's so nice to be able to name it now hahaha!

  • "Vocal FRY".... that sounds painful

  • this dood is high.

  • I know this is off topic but, what's the ending song called? Or was it just made for the video? Cuz it sounds freakin' AWESOME!!!

  • What is the technique for James Hetfield of Metallica?

  • @Soldier1287 just sing really hard - push your voice

  • 1:28

thats how my orgasm is like (:

  • @xHeReTiiC LOOOL

  • Hello

I have your course, and am now on techinique set 2. WIth the yawn warm-down, I am trying to get into vocal fry (I'm a girl, but I hope it is still a good idea for me to be trying to enter vocal fry). So, I would just like to know if there is some way I can be sure I made it into vocal fry? How should it feel?

Also, I think that this sound is a bit like that sound that children make with their throats to be annoying^^ If I do that sound and bring it way, way down, will that be vocal fry?

  • Comment removed

  • press 2 and 8 repeatedly for a good time : )

  • SCREAM!!

  • he sounds like he's orgasming :/

  • So basically you have to sing like the Grudge would xD

  • can i get thumbs up for no reason ? =)

  • @linyanka09 Nobody loves you.

  • @linyanka09 Yes you can! :)

  • thumbs up if u came here trying to find

metal fry sream technique =) or if u think hes a faggot!!!! -_-

  • Music of the Night - nice.

  • take off that hat you fuckin faggot

  • @frostysaysrawr Haha yeah man im learning the vocal fry to learn differnt ways to scream and i didnt know either that they use it to sing!

  • THIS IS VOCAL FRY !!! HAAAAA i did this all the time when i was lil

  • sweetass hat!

  • dudes weird.

  • Austin Carlile does vocal fry in Of Mice & Men. ;D

  • you look like a peter serafinowicz impression of someone.

    good video though

  • wait, is the vocal fry at the lowest part of your range, because sometimes when i sing higher notes i have that creaky door sound too... i don't really like it :(

  • I can does better than ya, booyah!

  • 1:53 pigsqueal

  • There's not really a fry singing if u know what I mean.. Like there is fry screaming but I can't think of non screamo song that has fry in it. And btw fry scramming is very bad and will damage your vocal cords especially if you are doing inhales and if you do those to much you may cause treakia damage and in very extreme cases will collapse.

  • @loudestrawrz Fry screaming is only bad if you do it wrong. Inhales are terrible for you, but exhale fry screaming when executed correctly, causes very little/no damage. Inhales are stupid, and doing them is just a bad idea anyway, but inhales aren't even vocal fry so why you'd even mention them is beyond me.

  • thanks..

you are such a great teacher ..

  • is m shadows from avenged sevenfold doing this technique??

  • @noprofile7 Thats what i wanted to know

I think he deffinatly uses fry scream not sure about singing

  • @noprofile7 most screamers do. linkin park uses it in given up when chester screams for almost 20 seconds

  • Hey please HELP me!! I have been having singing lessons for about two years and I have a strong chest voice but a very week middle head voice from about a "g" to an "d" after that my head voice is really strong. I have worked really hard on getting it stronger but I can't seem to get it better :( any help would be greatly appreciated!!! :)

  • Having sung strictly choral music, I find this video to be useless. This particular lesson does not apply to choral music.

  • @wowdanalise this is unhealthy for your voice too. It strains your chords. It totally ruined my voice. It took a long time to get it in shape again.

  • @wowdanalise nice to know...

  • He might look like Jack Nicholson, but he sounds like George Clooney doing a whitechapel impersonation

  • you look like jack nicholson

  • i wanna now about the vocal fry scream,

to do it properly, it is made by a vocal fry and then add more air like a "breathy vocal fry"?sometimes i can do it but i am confused, i dont find the logic because i know that for example the head voice is pressure with less air and the falsetto it is with more air and less vocal cord closure and less pressure, but it is possible(to do the vocal fry scream)apply more vocal cord closure and at the same time add MORE air?(2 opposite things)

  • @89gerardo

vocal fry should be looked at as a technique not a "scream" as should false cord & death growl.

He makes a great point on stressing the liesure"ness" it should come with. this is not a whisper scream technqie.

to reach the low frys like he does, drop a hum into your chest and slow it down. open your mouth and you should hear a "croaking" like sound. play around with the range. you should not have to add more air, fry "screams" lack in volume a lil. don't over think it.

  • I CANT FAKE BURB!!! >:[ SO freaking angry.

  • u r great man

  • By the comments here, old Brett did not get his point across AT ALL!!!! Funny.

  • Is This Guy Having An Orgasm?

    O:

    XD im jp

  • ...i can sing lower than him...im a 16 year old girl hahaha

  • @himynameisyoshi blatently a boy then.

  • This dude reminds me of jack nicholson.

  • @theUnholySquire Are you out of your f***ing mind?

Sorry, it's a reference to The Shining. But it's not very obvious.

  • @theUnholySquire more Giovanni Ribisi

  • you are really high

  • excuse me? growling is not singing?

  • @ARTISTICLYSTUPID, That's not growling..

  • @ARTISTICLYSTUPID Is this a question, made in appall, or a statement?

  • @AtariMaxiToriyama question/ question, made in appall...i wanna know their reason why he says its not singing

  • @ARTISTICLYSTUPID I'm sure he wasn't talking about intentionally growling in singing.

  • It's actually not considered singing because there's no notes involved.

  • @ShredableGuitar But still requires all the technique and practice.

  • He has a cool chair

  • I love vocal fry. I have a very high voice for a male (I'm a contralto) but vocal fry let's me sing some lower songs :)

  • There's no way anyone singing music of the night would use anything but a legit modal voice. Fry is useful in exercises but nobody apart from Russian orthodox choir 2nd basses would use it (they use vocal fry with the 1st basses modal note, as a fundamental note to give that characteristic very low bass sound either in 5ths or 8ves) Fry has no power or pharyngeal resonance.

  • That sound at the end sounds like death metal vocals. :)

  • He looks sleepy, lol!

  • what's the intruduction song please? oh and btw please make screaming tips if you have the time, it would really help

  • I can get a bit of a squeak up the top, but the entire range isn't connected

  • DaCapo Music Studio Love these tips, Brett and company! Thanks!
