@tomhalling The Seadragon Mobile iPhone app that you're talking about did get removed but not because of any inappropriate content. Rather, Seadragon Mobile was simply a tech demo from an applied research lab at Microsoft which closed in November of 2010.
The Seadragon technology is still alive at Microsoft via Seadragon AJAX in the Microsoft Expression team and Deep Zoom in Microsoft Silverlight.
Anyone with an iPod Touch or an iPhone can download the free Seadragon Mobile app to browse this collection and some other default collections.
If you get tired of viewing the included collections, use the 'Browse Photosynth' feature to get access to an always expanding library of high resolution photos.
Seadragon Mobile can't view synths in 3D, but will let you zoom all the way in to full resolution and view the images as a slideshow.
To view Photosynths in 3D on an iPhone, get iSynth.
this would replace any image/photo viewer out there on market but i doubt they will give it out so easily for home platforms
we "humans" or "mortals" as they say... need to use crappy programs that shows you thumbs and then you need to OPEN the file to view it and even that is choked and slappy
seadragon would be as someone already pointed out, like google earth, just without any lag.
For those of you who don't seem to grasp what SeaDragon does... It is a way to VIEW visual information. The point of it is that it handles a large QUANTITY of large files. Yes I'm sure your 8 core Mac can handle a 1.5Gb file fine. But can it open 800 files that are, to use the example from the vid, 118 megapixels? That works out at, IF they were 20mb in size at roughly 15.625Gb. And that, my friends, can be streamed across a network smooth as silk. Now do we understand what SeaDragon does?
I use Seadragon on my iPhone as well as my home computer. Incredible software in itself and in my opinion in will open gateways for even more impressive visual technology in the future.
@part2themovie Thanks for the 2 year late reply... but how exactly have I missed the point? All I did was explain what SeaDragon does... or is this a gay little sarcasm attempt?
@meddigo the reply button doesn't degrade means that a reply is still valid.
2. The point of it is not to stream it across a network, it's the means to an end, which you never stated. I hate it when people get wrapped up in the science or technology and forget the purpose, the reason for all these convoluted back end set ups. MP3s allow you to have more music on the same media, it does not employ audio algorithms to achieve optimal compression.. right? plz no AAC / missing the point
@part2themovie I had an answer, but I can't be bothered to argue. The point is, this vid demos the actual TECHNOLOGY of SeaDragon. It is designed to easily handle huge amounts of data across networks as well as on local machines. Of course it's a means to an end, but I wasn't talking about possible end user uses, simple what it does.

this is just microsoft copying other companies ideas again....this is the same as Apple Aperutre and Adobe Lightroom, except that both of those programs can also edit photos as well as do exactly what this video shows in terms of detail viewing of multiple images....Microsoft = lame and years behind AGAIN.
after your done try to get u and ur richest friend to load an extremly large array of 192 megapixel pictures in those programs and see how it perorms..

#1 - i have an 8-core mac pro, so doing that would be nothing. in fact, i open 1.5gb image files everyday and work with them in photoshop, premiere and after effects.
you are a complete moron. first of all, even your 1.5gb image files aren't even near the resolution of what seadragon offers. do you even know anything about what you're trying to make fun of?
secondly microsoft didn't come up with this stuff. they just bought it from another company. but you obviously have no grasp as to what this technology really offers. keep your mac cult member in your pants you pathetic dolt.
Stunning. As somebody who manages enormous libraries of large, old plans that have been digitized, I can't wait to get my hands on this sort of technology.
@nathanaelawrence That app got removed cuz someone put porn on it

The irony is Microsoft made Seadragon as a mobile application for the Apple iPhone and not their own Windows Mobile.
