@RockyDyal What's the longest you've ever rode your sport bike in one day? How about 1 sitting? I've done 4500+ km's in 4 days straight. 2 days were 15 hours and 13ish hours back to back. I probably rode 2.75 hours a few times. I did that on an SV650S. I now own a DL 6 years later after not riding. The SVS wasn't as aggressive as a true sport bike, either.
I sat on a sport bike and couldn't believe how aggressive it was. I want to ask you why you want to do that on a sport bike.
hahahah. That's great! I am from Texas.. sorta.. I grew up all over the USA and usually have a non-regional specific american english accent. Maybe the cold made me more canadian.
@dghomefry dghomfry: You rode from Tx to Argentina? Did you go down the west coast or east coast? Can this be done on a sport bike? Never mind the comfort.
I have a 650 and have ridden 1000's. The 650 is lighter and more agile and can perform equally as well as the 1000's. Stayed pretty much nose to nose w/ a 1000 in an interstate hwy showdown. Not worth the price difference or dealing with the top heavyness in my opinion.
Bought myself a DL650GT 2 months ago (brand new 2009 model). Worth every penny! Lowered it an inch on the front and rear, dropped the saddle an inch by removing the optional spacers.... now it sure isn't top heavy!
I will agree, though, that pushing the thing backwards is a chore.... and I did drop the bike (though managed to lessen the drop speed dramatically) twice on the first day because it was so damn high I couldn't get a decent footing on the ground (hence why I lowered it)
Did you test drive both the DL 1000 & 650 before choosing the 650? I'm wondering which to purchase. Kinda leaning towards the DL1000 for highway confort.
The dealership didn't have any 650's in when I went for the test ride so I tested the 1000.... which is awesome. In truth I haven't actually noticed any real performance differences between my 650 and the 1000 I test rode. I think the difference is more to do with top end... fastest I've been is 110MPH (private land, of course) and the 650 gets there VERY fast. Personally I don't see a reason to have the 1000 when it costs more to run. Both great, so either way you'll be happy with it!
Depends what you're used to and how far you push the machine. I sold the vstrom.. THOUGHT I got a dual sport when I got my F650GS.. I now bought a DRZ 400. I think calling it a dual sport is an understatement.
i scoot a klx250s. bike is more of a dirtbike with a plate. loads of smiles per miles. a friend of mine has the drz400. it has gobs of torque but to unwieldy for tight trails for me. klx250 when mod'd properly tears shit up in the woods. lacks on open road though. check some of my vids out.
For me it was too top heavy. When I rode from Texas to Argentina (17,000 miles on the trip total), I wanted a bike that I could beast around at slow speeds. The wee just isn't light enough and the center of gravity is too high to be fun at very slow speeds.
That being said, the only times I dropped my F650gs on my trip, I was going backwards. Once you get a bike loaded with luggage, it is difficult to negotiate.
I thought some of it looked like beteen 334 and Tularosa Road. We have a place there. Wow, and I found this by chance because I'm thinking about buying a V-Strom. Small world. Beautiful area out there guys! Might see ya on the trail.
that's because Corpus sucks. worst biker scene in the country and I've been to alot of places. crappy roads, traffic, idiot drivers, and too many posers that bought into the harley commercials where the girl says "i'm veronica and I own a harley" big fkn deal. need more true motorcyclists in corpus. Also, it's only three hours to the hill country. get the fck out of cc and go where the fun really starts.
Duuuuuude! keep the vids coming. Thats a great way to do a vid, in a really nice scenary, tight ass bikes overall. Im sooooo ***drool*** I want one! pretty expensive tho
Yeah, in the USA, Europe or Australia maybe, over here in Colombia high performance motorcycles aren't cheap :( (When I say high performance bikes I mean motorcycles with big engines > 500 cc)
good riding in Texas!!!

Those ranch roads are fun on a m/c. Also hot sports cars. Luckily I never ran into a cow or drunk.
Thanks for the vid. I just got a DL650.

That is a nice bike but it belongs on the pavement. It is out of it's element in the dirt and I would hate to see it get scratched up.

That was a fun video. I loved that colour scheme of blue with the black rims. Too bad they dont offer it anymore. Gorgeous bikes!

using the words "dual sport" in the same sentence as v strom is generous

Where was this filmed at? Almost looks like the Nueces river around Bracketteville.

The ride was from that area-- Hackberry Road. We stayed in Bracketville that night.

Great video! Wish I could find some "technical" roads like that around the Corpus area, mostly flat and straight here.
