  • Really, realy nice! Bravissimo, Fratelli Italiani--Auguri da Francia!

  • It's so ironic that when I was younger, I hated Christmas Eve because I hated fish. Now when I think back to those days (with tears in my eyes), I'd give anything to be able to experience them once again. How I miss the old days.

  • oh, I left out baccala (cod fish) which stunk up the whole house when my mother cooked it...che puzza!!!

  • I agree pasta was macaroni, except if you made it with something, pasta lenticchia(lentils), pasta ceci(chick peas)etc And NY Italians always called it "gravy", not sauce.People talk about 7 fishes on Xmas Eve;my parents made scungilli with red sauce (not gravy cause it's fish)over biscotti, mussels marinara, calamari w/linguini(red sauce),snails(they stuck to the pot lid), linguini w/white clam sauce, fried shrimp, flounder, calamari and a cold fish salad that had octopus, mussels, shrimp, calamari

  • This is beautiful! And I cried, like all Italians do.

  • You know you're Italian when you can build a house from top to bottom without having to hire someone outside of your family.

  • This is so funny! Some of these things apply to my Indian family, like 'having relatives who are not relatives', 'talking loud as normal', getting your cheeks pinched, mothers being overly protective of their sons, especially the last thing about not eating. I swear to God they are always forcing you to eat something... it's like the cure-all for every single ill in the world.

  • Well. I'm Italian, grow up in another Country, but is always the same... really!!!

  • this is unfortunate because my family has held the traditions and live in bordering towns and cities, maybe its a rhode island italian thing since theres so many italians but the memories will last when its over

  • I'm half Italian, even though my Italian half of the family mostly lives in Argentina (people there act pretty Italian...but they speak Spanish)...and boy do they know how to fit A LOT of people into one little building. I would know, I was there XD

But you see, hardly anything else applied to me because my Italian blood is so far removed. My mom is hispanic, and no one in my dad's family alive today was actually born in Italy.

So yeah, my family acts more latino than anything else :/

  • What if you thought everybody loves Raymond was a documentary of your family. Or if you were the only kid in school who liked olives and anchovies. Or if you spent you child hood in listening to dean martin’s in your grandfather’s car riding between art museums and eating. Or your grand parents’ dog eats prosciutto.

And as far as pasta being macaroni in Philly Sauce is GRAVY. BASTA !!!!! LOL.

  • LMFAO I WISH I WAS ITALIAN I THINK I AM i still odnt knoee

  • nice dean martin music!

  • i love this. It's so true. My grandmother sent this to me, and I can relate to pretty much every bit about it.

  • Sorry to those who say that only those born in Italy are Italians. If you'r parents, granparents etc came from the old country and you hold on to you'r culture and traditions indeed you are Italian!!!! My Papa was from Genoa and my mother was not Italian yet we were always taught about our heritage and in my heart and blood runs ITALIA!!!!

  • My family in America is so small and spread out.. My dad always talks about stuff like this, and we still do some of it. The family gatherings.. We don't have enough to do it. Everyones either in Italy or up north. We hold a lot of Austrian traditions as well, because we are from Northern Italy. We have the seven fish on Chirstmas Eve. But yeah. It's getting sad..

  • All these are so true...

  • i loved the last one! hahaha so true

  • First of all if your gonna make a video about italians, GET OUR FUCKIN FLAG RIGHT YOU BUM. ITS GREEN WHITE AND THEN RED

  • Only 14 of these applied to me :(...I hate having an Italian family where hardly any tradition was kept alive.

  • This is so ridiculous. You are most definitely NOT Italian if you 1. do not hold Italian citizenship, 2. do not speak Italian, 3. do not spend at least some part of the year in Italy. Give it up!! Italian American =/= Italian!! E lo dico da italoamericana con la doppia cittadinanza statunitense-italiana. These are pure stereotypes... sad.

  • @thatgirlinitaly Being Italian is more than just being from the land of Italy. It is a state of mind, a tradition and a rite passed down from those who came to America looking for a better life but wanted to preserve their culture. And besides, is my blood not as Italian as your's merely because I was born outside of Italy?

  • You know you're Italian if you cannot talk while your hands are tied together...

  • can relate if you're from Spain! = )

  • You know you're italian when you put the italian flag in the right position: it's green-white-red!!! Not red-white-green... Oh my God, how can overseas Italians to think they're still Italians??? If you're born outside Italy...then you're not italian, I'm sorry for you...

  • @simon1italy

I'm born in america, but I'm very much Italien! And I agree with you about the flag. I mean, it's not that hard to remember. I get so mad when people reverse it and say they are true italians. If you really love Italy so much atleast get it's flag right!

  • @SPslash2011 You got it, dude. Maybe the one made this video is from NJersey Shore!! Ha YA 'doin??? hahahahahaa. It's weird for me to hear things like that. I'm born in Italy and after 31 years in this country is very disappointing to see the italian flag in the wrong mix...we already have a lot of problems...

  • Comment removed

  • I just found out that I'm Italian... thanks.

  • Oh gosh, all of our family gatherings are loud and everyone is speaking at once.. my grandpa came over on a boat, my great uncles fought in world wars.. and all the things about the relatives.. that's all my dads side of the family xD on my moms side we're quiet english/germans xD

  • Cute but you should say "you know you're Southern Italian". These are mostly Sicilian/Southern Italian traditions & dialect, not real Italian. 80% of American immigrants are from the south but only represent a portion of the true Italian Penninsula. I'm Northern Italian & we do call it Pasta (macaroni is a pasta shape), fagioli (wtf is fazool?, not Italian -its dialect-broken English), & we look down on the Sopranos- cafoni. No disrespect, I love all Italians..just keeping it real!

  • @rockyljp i get what youre saying some of these are sicilian traditions but im calabrai (lower boot) and some other italian parts and i have alot of these attributes and pasta fazool is a dish with pinto beans and spinach or something but why do you look down on the mafia movies and the sopranoes that is very unitalian no matter where you are from in italy

  • @TheItalyboyz LOL, its anything but unitalian. Gifted artists, composers, singers, inventors, yet IAs are associated with this mob bullshit. Of 25mil IAs, maybe 5000 (0.002%) were gangsters. It's a Hollywood creation, not real, and an insult to the Italian culture. Many IAs have no idea where they came from and have allowed Hollywood to create a false and denigrating heritage for them. Sad. Don't be proud of gangster associations. Its not cool, AND its not true. Respectfully.

  • @rockyljp you make no sense

  • @rockyljp al capone, the brooklyn mafia(goodfellas) and sicily a long time ago. yes it is a stereotype of italians but it is relatable to any real italian have you heard of ancient rome? they were just as bad if not worse those are youre ancestors. youre making fun of people that are basically paisin to you. youre rite it is a very little portion of italians that are gangsters but italians are known for - tradition, big familys, good food, how beautiful italy is and more

  • @TheItalyboyz shame you have an adversity to culture and education. Brooklyn is not America or Italy. Filippo Mazzei,Amadeo Gianinni,Constantino Brumidi,Meucci,Marconi,Toscaninni,Maria Montessori,Robert Mondavi,Gallo. And the old country Dante,DaVinci,Verdi,Garibaldi,Puccini,Fermi,Gallileo. Do you even know who any of these people are?

Stop buying the AngloAmerican stereotype of your heritage and look beyond Brooklyn....what richness you are missing out on. Very, very sad....

  • @rockyljp you are totally right ,,they describe an stereotype ,,,...the video should say just say american italian from ny, .You guys erased the italian cultured from your family , you lost language ,the only italian that you keep is what you see on tv .You guys just become Americans... shame that you was no able to keep that cultures in your family.

  • @rockyljp you mean some how that the north will represent the true italy ? with all that heavy barbarian blood line they carry ? and this felling of supremacy for try to more "european " and less Mediterranean? with all my disrespect to you fuck your self fascist .By the way the video describe just italian emigrant in america .

  • That was the best!! That was exactly how I grew up and I wouldn't change a thing about it. I also thought everyone in Brooklyn NY WAS Italian. They weren't? LOL. THANKS FOR THIS VIDEO.

  • love it! i will raise my kids exactly how i was raised. i died when u brought up the wooden spoon! haha. thanks for the video

  • Oh, my God. This is my family. You also can't say "macaroni" without saying "gravy". Sauce was that brown stuff you served with meat like meatloaf or roast beef. Everything is true!! lmao

  • @curmudge Thaank youu, my family moved to california and no one understands when we say were havin macaroni meatballs and gravy

  • I love this!

  • oh almost forgot, I also thought it was hilarious when you said fitting 150 people into a small yard, and I have 3 uncles named tony, 4 cousins named tony, both of my grandparents are louie, one grandmother named rosa, the other dolores, and a sister named gina, and two brothers one named loie and the other named frank hahahahah

  • @coraba1 Is your sister married?

  • @coraba1 dolores is so spanish name .

  • I cracked up when I saw "you understand italian but cant speak it (at least the swear words)" because that is so true for me hahaha....... but for my own personal self i would have to add to this "you know youre sicilian if your entire family would beat your sillt little culo if you said you were italian and not sicilian"

  • Many years ago my grandmother told me she wanted me to take her to City O'Buckle. I kept asking her what's City O'Buckle? City O'Buckle!! she kept saying. City O'Buckle!! It took all day for us to figure out with her accent it was Sears and Roebuck.

  • I am Italian and that is great.!!

  • My grandmother and father were "laid out" in our livingroom for 48 hours before the funeral mass. Two of my aunts tried to jump into the grave at the graveside service.

  • We had my grandfather in my grandma's house for 2 days. She had a perfect place for a viewing in the dining room cove

  • Atsa crazy!!!!!!!!!

  • LMAOOO SOO VERY TRUE!!!!!!!!!

  • hoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow could you miss talking with your hands??????????????????????

  • LOLOL My nonno's name was Frank (Francesco), and three of his sons were Louie (Luigi), Joe (Giuseppe), and Tony (Antonio).... Now I have cousins, Frank, Louie, Joe, and Tony... haha this is pretty hysterical :)

  • @nikeandros ops sammartino !!! m my comment was for uncuttuts.. scusa paesa'.. non volevo offendere te!!!!

  • @ilikewalmartbecause GO FUCK YOURSELF YOU RAT FUCKING BASTARD

  • @MelMelsNRich I HAVE HAD THIS ARGUMENT FOR YEARS.YOU PUT GRAVY ON TURKEY NOT PASTA.

  • You were almost as tall as your Nuna at the age of 7 LMAO

  • DAMNIT! is not "Sauce" its GRAVY!!!

  • ........If.......... you have behavioral problems and a short penis.

  • what are you talking about lol what sentence was incorrect? and why would I worry about my grammar while arguing with an imbecile with a superiority complex on youtube? italians are fucking retarded.

  • HAHAHAH!!! you left out how your nonna speaks English "You-e come-a here-a!!!" lol

  • the only one i cannot relate to is the dog.....we had no pets....i thought italians were not allowed to have pets

  • wax paper wrapped sangweech which was salami and provolone cheese on homemade bread....pizelles (wrapped in wax paper), fruit ....wax paper......i went to zia's house every day for coffee!!!

not only was i surprised that wine was sold in stores....but vinegar too!! of course, we had homemade vinegar too!!!! none of that bulla sheet from the store. i don't even recall seeing salad dressing back then (60's and 70's).

i love it....that is me all over!!

  • Dang Arabs and Italians are too alike

  • @ilikewalmartbecause italians dont suicide bomb eachother.......

  • hahaha.....so true

  • Glad to be Italian we take great pride in our history and culture more than any other country I think.

  • I'm Italian and most of the things on here are damn legit, good job!

  • This is so my family growing up..Burned it to play at Xmas for my parents who are elderly..This will bring back so many happy times for them...LUV This..Grew up with having things hanging all over the basement to dry...Pepporini, Salami, Pasta..And yes Pasta EVERY Sun.

  • Haha, alot of this is so true lololol. This is so funny. You just described most of the things me family does or has. lololol

  • I wonder if there is anything on the planet that some people won't put down or argue about. I guess not, small minds make for small conversation.

  • awwww, the fried smelts, the holidays at grandmas, home made pastas, the wooden spoon, the home grown tomatoes (which I still grow now) grandparents all came over on "the boat", family reunions! All this is my family !

  • There is absolutely nothing wrong with being southern Italian, northern Italian, or Italian-American. Each have their different cultural differences that make them great. Even America has cultural difference between the different regions of Americans. Be proud of your heritage no matter what you are.

  • I can relate to all of this. We were very close years back, but the family closeness among all ethnic groups is disappearing. Sad.

  • My Italian mom never made her own sauce nor did any Italian moms I knew...they made GRAVY!!!!

  • Whats really funny is the fuckin bank job away in Secaucus i'm in the middle of the fuckin weeds layin down...He comes over and says whatta ya doin her ?? I said i'm resting. Here your resting ? ya gotta beach and a fuckin park ...I said i'm resting , I know when i'm resting , i'm resting.

  • Black dress every day for 25 years = Mrs. Castellino.

  • You get an oil change with 5 quarts of olive oil.

  • the fucking wooden spoon bro

kept me in line for most of my life

  • @fio667 i became very good friends with that spoon

  • @5251nicky my mom broke him and a couple of his brothers on me lol

  • What the hell was that? Why do Italian Americans always feel a need to justify their existence? Why couldn't Northern Italians have come to America? Oh yeah... because they were educated, intelligent, culturally refined, prosperous & didn't need to. What did America get? Southern Italians... the dregs of Europe. No other region of the world was occupied by more foreign armies than southern Italy? No other people has bent over & spread it more than Southern Italians. And Columbus was Jewish.

  • @eightiesguy69yeah Southern Italians coming to America have contributed more to this Country than you, YOU UNEDUCATED BOOB, can ever dream. Look up some of the history. Besides exploring, superior artistic skills, banking, (Bank of America was founded and developed by an Italian), contributions to everything from business to agriculture, Italian immigrants provided the back-breaking labor that this Country needed to grow and prosper.

  • @LuvRK9s Exactly... keep dancing little fella. Keep justifying your deluded history. There are two other cultural groups that try to spin their history with the same humiliated desperation.. Irish & African Americans. Even pizza.. the Indians, Greeks, Jews, Arabs & North Africans all ate flat bread with dairy, meat, vegetables & tomatoes. Wait a second.. didn't the Greeks, Arabs & N. Africans all occupy Southern Italy? Hmmm? So I suggest that YOU re-read YOUR history. Now go make me a sandwich.

  • @eightiesguy69yeah No, you are a fucking idiot. Learn and accept that us Italians are the best and will be forever, look at Italy and you wish you could be Italian and have such a great, rich, historic culture. Racial piece of shit.

  • @UncutTuts Italians are what make the US the strongest military. I'm glad to be Italian because i can do a trick that someone would dream to do.

  • @UncutTuts So sorry I touched a nerve. Didn't mean to upset you. Don't be so sensitive. Racist? Really? You are claiming that "Italians are the best" the same way ignorant, mutt blooded Americans claim that they are number 1. Please refrain from using the word race in a generalized manner in such discussions. You only show that you are proudly waving your flag of stupidity. You must be a big fan of Al Sharpton. So tell me little fella' what part of history are you so desperately clinging too?

  • @UncutTuts lmao you are an idiot.

  • @throwfor6 Blocked. You're an idiot.

  • @UncutTuts lmao you give your people a bad name.

  • @throwfor6 Blocked.

  • @UncutTuts you're retarded

  • @throwfor6 You're retarded learn how to write a grammatically correct sentence.

  • u know if u are italian if all ur family is in jail lol

  • This video brought tears to my husband's eyes. LOL, our last name is the same as yours, D'Amico.

  • I know for sure I am Italian,it's like you knew my family!!!

  • I love this video! How sad the music is gone!

  • Ahh! The flag at the end! >.<

  • It wasn't "pasta" it was "macaroni". The word pasta was never uttered unless it was followed by the word "fazool."

  • @misterdirtyknees - Very true. Laughing my head off at that one.

  • THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will still not say pasta unless it is with fazool. People do not know that in a traditional Italian Home, it will always be macaroni.

  • and you TRULY know you're italian if you felt insulted that the flag was backwards in this video!

lol, come on people! its Green-White-Red! get it straight!

PLEASE!

  • @malko8725 My family immigrated from Italy (on a boat) and certainly ate sandwiches. Yes, we are Italian, sandwiches or not.

  • most of these things mexicans do the same! thats weird

  • Oh, the embarrassment of having a lunch bag drip with olive oil that seeped out of the wax-paper wrapped fried egg sandwich (with onions) or sauce stained homemade meatball sandwich on what else? big, lopsided-cut slices of homemade bread. How my brother and I BEGGED for "Wonder Bread"!!!!

  • @hippiemotel I was always sent to school with cappicola( Gabbagool) and provelone sandwiches, with marinated eggplant on it.....used to stink up the whole lunchroom and the only ones who didnt complain were other italian kids!

  • You're Italian if your mom's full name after marriage became Chimienti-Clemente! This was so much fun to watch. I sent it to all my "Dago" relatives...Thank you for taking the time to do this!

  • @TheJacquster YOU MUST COME FROM OMWHER ELSE OR OTHERWISE YOU WOULD NOT USE THE dago YOUR RELATIVES MUST NOT BE REAL ITALIANS OR YOU WOULD NT BE CALLING THEM DAGOS YOUD BE ON YOUR ASS AN italian guy who dont like the word dago B @PEATRO

  • @King689 The Tarantella

  • I agree with portugal461.
