  • thats a badass mouthpiece

  • wow i have to listen this for homework (by the way hallo G1A!)

  • zsamplowalem to KURWA!

  • Jesus how can you jump from peddle to high so fast?

  • what mic was used for this?

  • Was that even a partial?

  • Woah, nice Trom. i love your solo.

  • Such a graceful flexible insturment.

  • This has that sexy dancing with your partner aura or just a neuron enchancing joy. Not sure which but they seem intertwined. A new favorite.

  • Beautiful, yes.

What trombone is it though? Although i know this is a very experienced trombonist, the trombone seems to have very good range with little distortion. The tone is exactly what im looking for. Can someone pm me or tell me which trombone and brand it is?

  • @SoIIy dude marshall gilkes is playing a custom shires in this vid but if you watch his other one thats on you tube he's playing a rathbone i think. both custom. If you want you can check the web page out but paying for a custom horn costs about $3,000 minimum. SO, I recommend that you look on ebay for conn 88h's or Olds Operas because thats basically want you wanna get except for about $2,000 cheaper. If you'd rather go pick a trombone out though then head over to Dillons Music in New Jersey

  • @SoIIy they have the largest selection of trombones that you'll ever see, and famous famous people have purchased horns there such as conrad herwig and marshal gilkes.

  • Good job :)

  • Also I'm a smiler, yet I'm section leader

  • My music teacher at my school plays trombone so we will usually get at least one lead song in our concerts, right now were are playing Jingle Bones, guess who's the leaders of that....BTW I'm section leader lol

  • very good.i play the trombone.i practise very hard

  • You guys may not have gotten me straight. I never said anything about the playing ability of this guy... hes rwally good. And anyone in the right mind would know that. What I meant to say. Is that he should have a trigger because this guy diserves it. So shut the fuck up. And troll on the guy that said the video sucks below me.

  • i like his hair

  • What a beautiful instrument. . . awesome playing!

  • my trombone is a piece of crap

  • dude, i am a trombone player too. just one question remains........WHY DOES HE NOT HAVE A TRIGGER!!!!

  • @The836812 They make extremely high quality trombones without a trigger. A trigger doesn't add greatness. The player does. Good players can make a nickel trombone sound good.

  • @The836812 because this is a standard trombone, not a bass trombone

  • @YouFreakinTroll Triggers are not mounted only on bass trombone. Tenor trombone have triggers to. It's mostly a purpose of virtuosity, because you don't need to strecth your arm : the smaller the moves, the faster you can play. Of course, as the trigger pulls the tone down a fourth, you can play lower notes, but the trombone remains a tenor.

  • @The836812 you only need a trigger to help with range, and his range is really good so he doesnt need one.

  • @The836812 Because he doesn't need it. A trigger is helpful to play faster, or maybe if you have short arms (i don't know, i'm 6' 5"). I did'nt listened carefully enough but on this cool piece he may not need to play notes on the 6th or 7th position in a fast sequence, so he doesn't need a trigger.

  • @poymanjoe he doesn't need to play notes down there because hes playing them in alternate positions

  • @The836812 he doesn't have a trigger because he is a jazz player and typically jazz players do not use them. plus the horn he is using is an orchestral horn just minus the trigger so that he has less stress on his left side and can be relaxed as he plays

  • He has got to have lost his virginity at 35 yrs old.

  • dude very good

  • That looks like so much fun

  • how did you do that at 3:50 i real what to know

  • @deathsoiler95 It's called a pedal Bb.

  • my trobone makes its own notes when I blow into it

  • =3

  • Ahhhh, triple tonguing, triple octave f's and A's, sheer air quality, pure skill have created the most beautiful trombone solo I have ever heard

  • I play the trombone but I hate the sound so much...

  • my trombone sounds like a fart

  • @cairr1 don't put it up your bum then :D haha

  • @cairr1 lol wait till u get better

  • @cairr1 STOP PLAYIN IT THROUGH YOUR ASS HOLE

  • @cairr1 LOL! What kind of trombone do you have?

  • @cairr1 I'll have one of my concert pieces up on my channel soon so if you want to check that out. :)

  • beautiful.

  • DROPPIN MAD SCIENCE ON THE TROMBONE!

  • 45 people dont know how to buzz their lips

  • 2:54

Jak to usłyszałem to sie rozpłynąłem ;;;PPP

  • The tongue work... the range... the speed.. amazing.

  • This is just amazing!

  • tromboner hehe

  • It's a pity he never learned a proper instrument, you know, something with valves instead of the slidey tube thing. Now if he picked a trumpet when he was little he could really have made something of himself ... it's a joke, btw ;)

  • @weejimmykranky trumpets really they r just pushing buttons this is really butiful

  • seriously, this trombone player...yum

  • 44 people misclicked

  • That must suck having to blow when you keep pushing the tube in your mouth like that. lol.. j/k

  • YOU ARE A BADASS

  • Well done. Very well done!

  • where can i find this music sheet?....or was this improvision?

  • @thesocietysuicide all improv dude!

  • @peotdee damn thats talent right there

  • @thesocietysuicidethat was such a dumb question dude ._.

  • @SuperTomBone it looks like he could be looking at a stand in the beggining thats why

  • like juices flowing from a peach

  • This is gonna be a random question, but does anyone know what the subtle rolling, rumbling technique is called? He does it at 1:09 you can also hear it from 2:19 to 2:22. I don't know how to describe it but its the texture that he gives. I guess it would be equivalent to a rolling r in human speaking. If that makes any sense.

  • great solo

  • Omg, that didn't even sound like he was improvising!

  • dude, you're amazing!!! I'm on my way. haha (i have a couple of videos)

  • 3:51 that is smart

  • more air. please

  • To everyone wondering about the horn, it's a shires. Shires has a very distinct bell engraving that you can see a little bit of in this video. I've seen more recent videos of him playing an Edwards. Both companies make top of the line trombones tailored for the specific player they are sold to, if you go to their factories.

  • wow your low to high contrast is phenominal, want to hear more please. =) a total fav video thanks for the post!

  • This is really ispirational to my playing I've only been playing for like 2 years I'll have a vid of me improvising up soon I would love some feedback

  • Fantastically attractive!

  • trombone GOD

  • is this a king 2b?

  • beautiful.

  • @alazuan Tá amarrado esse negócio. Vai beber uma pinga e fumar um cigarro num buteco. Só pensa em técnica e fica tentando "produzir"um som. Relaxa e toca esta ... direito! Escuta Raul de Souza, Bocato!

  • WOAH :o!!!!! I dream of playing like this guy!!! :D

  • Is that Willie Colon in the picture back in the wall? for that don't know, Willie is puertorican salsa singer and well known for playing the trombone

  • even though i play clarinet, i love the trombone! i am going to play this instrument in summer band. go gila vista jr. high band!

  • That is some amazing playing. Great chops, great concept.

  • i have only just started playing the trombone this year and i hated it until my music teacher told me to look at some clips on youtube like this, and now after seeing this i think i might just continue..

  • @MissDeeDee43

keep playing trombone for a long time, and work hard at it, when you first start trombone is usually in the background because it has a lot of technique that you have to build as an individual player and as a section. Once you develop that technique, and tone your teacher (if you play jazz) may give a lead solo that everyone will notice if you have worked at it even just a little bit.

  • @bengeoffrey6 taht's right man :D I play the trombone know 4 years. The first three i don't make fun. I don't play much and I wasn't good. But know i play every day, have solos and it make so much fun. Keep playing :D

  • anyone know what kind of Trombone he's playing on? type/model

  • @partydub Edwards T302 jazz horn. Denis Wick mouthpiece

  • @TromboneMasterMan thats a shires in this video, i have the same horn

  • @PaulTheTrombonist Oh yeah! I see the design on the bell, and the counterweight doesnt say edwards. As of recently he's an edwards artist. He's playing one in his other video. "Trombone virtuoso, Marshall Gilkes Trio"

  • @partydub It loos like a yamaha treble trombone

  • You stupid Tromboner players! Why do you get all the effin credit??? Why don't the freaking EUPHONIUM player like MEEEE get the credit????!!!! Gahd! You trombone players piss me off!

  • @BeeffCakeeBabyy hahaha tromBONER!!!!!! hahahahahahahahahahaha

  • @BeeffCakeeBabyy Did you post your solo on youtube?

  • wow that guy is gay... earring in the right ear

  • Very average

  • Wonderful! Marshall you are one of my Trombone heroes!

  • outstanding

  • man, words cannot express how awesome this is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • outstanding

  • dang yo..

  • love the hair bruh!!!!!!!!! great playing

  • All the people that looked for @supersaxophone after I commented I am very sorry for the 5 min of your time I wasted making you scroll and search. A majority of YouTube users feel your pain.

  • @supersaxophone1 don't you play.... The Saxophone?

  • Who is this man? Amazing!

  • @monsercoq1 lol uhhh it says his name

  • @ahh10123

    Thank you captain obvious.

  • @monsercoq1 uhhhhhhh that doesnt really apply here.

  • @ahh10123

Yes it significantly does. It is substantial for you to utilize your minimal intelligence to distinguish certain moments in the continuation of time that can precisely for that moment and that moment only call for a specific ironic remark. And this exact situation my dear friend, calls for an extraordinarily satirical remark.

  • @monsercoq1 .....sort of i mean you were the one who said who is he....when it says his name in the title. i dont know if you were just kidding around but o well. And are you really calling me stupid?

  • @ahh10123

No I'm not I was just messing around with my words. Sorry if I offended. I don't like jerks so I'm not trying to be one. But I was trying to be sarcastic when I said who is this man..

  • Very nice!

    good practice !

    I love !

  • best instrument ever.

  • Nice!!

    Hi I am a young Bahamian composer...This is just a link to a jazz chart i wrote...it features solo trombone...written solo.....youtube.com/watch?v=xxr7L1CHoz8

  • Very nice. Good job.

  • Theres a term for stuff like this. It's "Self Indulgent Wanking". Incredibly awesome and virtuosic wanking, but Wanking nontheless.

  • This sounds like blues... correct me if I'm wrong please...

  • 38 ppl didnt like his hair :D

  • @Ch1k3n112233 i dont really like his hair...

  • WHOOOOAH

  • i need to go practice... O.o

  • Holy shit, amazing.

  • He's got the crazy artist hair going on

  • His tone is AMAZING! :D

  • bomb!!

  • 3:51 HOLLY SHIT!!!

  • you have opened my eyes to glory, and for this i thank you.

  • The man.

  • Amazing & Elegant!!!

  • hmm....wait dude...in 40 years I can do the same

  • Is it weird that during the viewing of this video I actually drooled?

  • @gageandcrackers I hope not because i did the same :) LOL

  • You make me proud to call myself a trombone player, but I'll never be able to match you in your talents.

  • Lacks technique. Needs to practice.

  • @freeeeeeedy umm...what?

  • Hi,

    absolutely phantastik!

    Perfect!

I wish, my playing will become at least 20 or 30% of that - sometimes, i hope.

    Greatings

  • absolute genius. very nice

  • Really great playing, especially the multi-octave triple-tongued arpeggios near the end of the piece. I like his sound and the nuances he uses in interpreting the melody. Anyone harshly critical of this performance is probably not near this level of playing. I get tired of Alessi vs. Great Jazz Player comparisons, because there isn't one. I wish people could appreciate both forms of playing and not try to compare two different things in biased, musically narrow-minded ways.

  • @ChrisdB808 you are sooooo right.... i have seen things where people say alessi is better than wycliffe gordon... and you said it.. there is no comparison....

  • @stealthedscout

Well the only reason I said that is because Allego quoted: "The Arban/Prescott manual was left miles behind." He says this as if all other players that use these method books are dirt and trash. Technically he is comparing all (good) players to this Gilkes by saying Gilkes is the best and these method books that everybody else is on (which EVERYBODY IS on) is way behind. Not true.

  • *Rijen

  • @allegrobas

Are you kidding me. That must be a joke. Thousands if people use Arban's studies and Alessi's Arban studies every day. I cannot believe the ignorance that is in these YouTube comments. There is nothing special about his technique at all! Some natural slurs here, sone glisses there. Its all the same with these kind of players. If you want real talent and technique, listen to Joseph Alessi, Phillip Freeman and Jorgen van Ryan.

  • Marshall has raised the bar on trombone technique. What he has done on this vid probably would have been thought to be impossible before he came along. The Arban/Prescott manual was left miles behind. My hat's off to him. Excellent performance. A+++

  • When Did You Started Playing The Trombone?

  • I wish I could ever be this good at trombone.

  • wow, amazing. Trombones/the players don't get enough props.

This made me want to go dust off my old trombie :)

  • my god!!!!! :Ospeechless..

  • i finally figured out how to do the thing at 3:50!!!!! its actually not that hard lol

  • @knifenewbie456 notes plox?

  • @MartiniTheTrombini i have no idea what that is lol but just try going from low b flat the high f real fast as a lip slur

  • so at 3:50 how does he tongue that? tukatrrrrruka or something like that?

  • @JohnnyRadiohead he doesnt....its pretty much a bad version of lip slurring that sounds like tounging. im not saying hes bad at trombone or lip slurring. it may just be a technique he developed for this

  • @knifenewbie456 It's stylistic, even the best ( like Joe Alessi ) employ that technique in solos. Plus it's fun haha! Both of them are Julliard Trombonists, so maybe it's something Juilliard thinks is fun XP

  • I'm plaiying Concert Rondo for my solo this year as a sophomore in high school and I was wondering if you could give me any tips an sound quality or something like that?

  • i thought i was the best trombone player in the world until i saw this video :(

  • Holy ffu- My new hero!

  • Need the sheet music for this

  • I like your music. Cheers !

  • Man that cam must have cost a fortune in 07

  • *sniffle* my life is complete

  • ZOMG!!! that is awesome! thank you for puting a refreshing pace of music on youtube. it is a very wonderfull video. you good sir are one of few that make this website a good one.

  • when i grow up.. im going to be better than this.. thats my goal..

  • this is totally rediculous great job

  • is that a 5g mouthpiece you are using? one of my friend's a 5g that looks exactly like that

  • @knifenewbie456 i doubt it..probably same model way smaller

  • OMG THIS DUDE IS RAW

  • Very Nice. I love the octave jumps.

  • only just realised. marshall gikes must be gay - he has an earring in his right ear. not that theres anything wrong with that though

  • @Quibbleify he has earings in BOTH ears. He must be a girl... Or a pirate (OMG Jhonny Depp is playing trombone !!!)... Or a musician artist kind of rebel who doesn't care about stupid prejudices. Fed up with gay hunting/bashing on Youtube music videos. Listen and enjoy, and keep your intimate fears quiet. Thanks.

  • @poymanjoe Hey now, i think i made it pretty clear i have no problem with homosexuality. I'll have you know i did both listen and enjoy, i just made an (incorrect) observation as well.

  • Just amazing. Yeah Shires is where it's at!
