oi...amazing how a song can bring up such hard feelings. listen peeps, i'm american( well, a proud coonass louisiana mutt) and i love my country with a great passion, but i've got no hard feelings about the past. how can i? my ancestors hailed from germany, england, ireland and france! some native and black in there too! the past is done, and it isn't like we americans are innocent. slaves. the kkk, iraq, prejudices. you name it. but i still love it, and also other countries and their people.

u know what...im english...but i live in scotland...i grew up with scottish history and alot of beatings for having a diferent accent n all that shite...but i love the scot's, I don't think there is another peoples out there who love their country, their land and their heritage more thne the scot's...this...is by far one of my favourite ever song's...n like i said...i'm english...but listening to this makes me proud to have grown up with a scottish background!

@Thackerism Actually (and I already know there are going to be some hardcore nationalists that are going to be upset but can't really avoid them anyway), the bagpipe is an instrument that was spread across Europe (including the Holy Roman Empire, Sicily, the Balkan). It is generally believed by most historians to have originated in the area of the Balkan, Turkey or what, today, is Iran and Iraq. It just survived longest with the Irish tribes (the Scots came from Ireland to Scotland).

My mom's family moved from Scotland to America in 1955 and gave birth to my momma. My dad's side of the family is Choctaw, Native American. I am proud to call myself a Scottish Native American Indian lol! Which means...absolutely nothing. Woot for family roots!

The Scots-Irish were used on the frointier as a buffer between the whites and the Indians. They were used because they were very fierce fighters. The "settlers" in the movie were a reason to use a Scottish song. My heritage is primarily Scottish but also Native American. One branch of the family does have the Q haplogroup particular to the Indians.

Because the song in the movie (last of the mohicans) is the gael. a scottish song. the directer of the movie decided to cover it. the song in the movie is abit dif from this tho as it has more indian instruments n sounds to it.,.. plus in a way the scots n the indians connect thru the fact that freedom canot be won.. as its never lost, the land can be tamed, but the people never broken..

He was known to say if he went back to the States they would lynch him, I hope he was only joking. My mothers maiden name is Lynch and I'm trying to find out if that is the real name or if it just stuck because of what my old grandpa used to say.

are of course dead now. I'll have to go through the Brule Sioux records from 1880 on to find out who left in one of these shows. I know that a lot of native Americans from these shows stayed in Scotland but he moved on to Ireland.

@MetalsBurden , well, surprisingly I find ( in an old book of Scottish surnames, published by " Scotland on Sunday"-newspaper) that the name "Jackson" was prominent in Glasgow and Aberdeen in the 15th century. I also find that Maccrow -sometimes Maccroy- come under CLAN Macrae. Maybe that helps, greetings
