Excellent video, nice comparison. I guess what many young viewers may not realize is the counterfeit guitar shown is not legal to import or re-sale in the USA, i.e. copyright infringement, & improper country of origin stamp, customs violation, so once you get it, it's like a faux Rolex watch, enjoy it but don't get caught trying to sell it, or advertise it for sale, or better yet don't ever buy one, just buy a new Epiphone for about the same money with lifetime warranty, and better craftsmanship
Epiphone doesn't mean what it used to mean. Back in the 80's when you went looking at guitars Epiphones ( pre-Gibson Epiphones ) were total and utter craptastic garbage copies of Les Pauls. We shopped pawn shops, these mythical places where 30 years ago you could profit from some anonymous persons hard luck. Epiphones were avoided like the plague. A few years after Gibson absorbed them, the quality went way up and today, many mid-to-high end Epiphones rival or out class the low end Gibsons.
@OddTimeMan Actually technially Gibson didn't buy Epiphone in 1957 The Epiphone Company is a musical instrument manufacturer founded in 1873 by Anastasios Stathopoulos. Epiphone was bought by Chicago Musical Instrument Company, which also owned Gibson Guitar Corporation, in 1957. Gibson absorbed Epiphone years later. The 1957 - 1969 models were identical to Gibsons, the 1970's and 1980's got increasingly cheaper parts and workmanship, like most things they hit a low point in the 80's

@stone14me that's with a repaired headstock. they loose there value with a broken headstock, another reason why i love the chineese copies, they don't loose value!!!
Who cares where it comes from,If it looks, plays, sounds good wtf does it matter? Here's a thought would you be more comfortable playing a $3000.00 guitar and being afraid to play it cause it cost so much or a $300.00 to $600.00 guitar that you don't give a crap if you took it off and threw it into a crowd at a gig? Now I agree there is a lot out there that wouldn't be worth whipe'en your ass with just like everything else got to research them all and compare them all.

I know they make the fakes so people will buy them especially all the people that can't afford the real thing, but why don't they just come up with their own designs and put those out? They should start making a name for themselves instead of copying everyone else? @colesharley1903 Can I get some pics? I've seen a lot of the Chinese fake Gibsons but I've never seen a plywood one...ever. I hear people all the time say they're made of plywood, but when I ask for pics I get no response. I've Googled for pics too and I don't see any plywood ones. Are people just making up facts?
@OddTimeMan I don't see a way to upload any pics on here.I do have some of a fake bullseye Zack Wylde Flying V I owned. I have no pics of the inside of the pickup cavity but when I opened it up or took the pickups out you could see the whole body was plywood. On the outside it looked like any other guitar, but there not, and mine came from Tradetang too. I'm glad it's gone cause it was a nightmare to play, never stayed in tune and it sounded kinda crappy. It did look good an the wall though.
@colesharley1903 Interesting. Too bad you don't have any pics showing the plywood. As I said before, I haven't seen one yet that was made of plywood and there aren't any pics anywhere showing that they are.

@moucon I think you mean "exporters" not "importers". You can easily buy the fakes directly from China. And you're assuming they're are all "junk" when they're not. Many of them are just Epiphones with Gibson style headstocks. They often come loaded with Epi parts & features. They're most likely illegally made in the Epi factories in China. I don't think they're trying to pass them off as legit...not for $200. People that order them KNOW they're fake. Like buying a Rolex for $25.
this is the second video ive come across with a serial number similar to mine, 00170425. Les Paul with the self-tuning "robot" style blue to silver finish
All these folks saying gibson is the bestt, 20 years ago, they would be right, but nowadays, gibson is way to much buck for your bang. Seriously, get something cheaper, if you look right, itl sound 2ce as good.
both guitars have a great sound and quality, but you can notice that the sound of the second is "very open" for a les paul guitar to sound... thats because it was made of basswood and not mahogany or alder, that are usually used to build les paul guitars
@guitarplay234 The woods vary with these fakes. My friend has 2 that are made of maple (bodies & necks). But some are Asian mahogany, basswood or alder. But keep in mind that with solid-body electric guitars MOST of your tone comes from the electronics, not the wood. Wood is way more important with acoustic guitars.
do they stay in tune well? i'm poor guy and can't even afford an epiphone standard, so i planning to get me one and change only electronics and pickups keeping everything else
There is no doubt that Gibson you Bought from a questionable dealer in China is a FAKE I know this because I WORK FOR GIBSON GUITARS USA located on Massman Drive Nashville TN, 37210 and we do not make scarf Joints or scarf cuts on the neck (the diaginal joint on the neck ) we do not paint the electrical junction box Black, they do that on FAKES to cover up the fact that the body is made with a cheap wood or Plywood with a thin Venere layered over it.
@denis18939 My friend has 2 Gibson fakes from China. The control cavities are painted with shielding paint. The wood can be seen in the pickup cavities & toggle switch cavity...they are not painted. And they are not plywood, they're maple...but the woods vary with these fakes, some are Asian mahogany, some Basswood, some Alder. I wish Gibson would use the scarf-joint because it fixes the weak neck issue with one-piece necks & angled headstocks.
@skipstalforce Sure there's a difference, but the real question is: Is it a $2,000 difference? I don't think so. A simple pickup swap, or just a tweak of your EQ, will erase that difference in tone. Use the money you saved to buy a nice all-tube amp. Most of your overall sound comes from your amp, not your guitar. A good all-tube amp will do wonders for your tone.
@OddTimeMan I'm sorry I have to disagree with you. Yes a good tube amp will make a difference but thats just part of the equation. This thing is made of bass wood, this crap is only good for doll houses and burning your enemys. Mahoganey is a tone wood, there is a difference that your ears can hear. One thing all big name acts have in common, they don't play fake crap, there is a difference.
@skipstalforce You amp is a HUGE part of your overall tone. A nice all-tube amp & a well-designed speaker cab will make even an inexpensive guitar sound good. Jimmy Page got great tone out of a cheap masonite Danelectro guitar. Eddie Van Halen played a homemade guitar made of inexpensive parts. And I have a few inexpensive guitars that sound great through my all-tube amps. And there are a ton of examples of guitars made of plywood, plexiglass, aluminum, carbon fiber, etc. that sound amazing.
@skipstalforce Basswood is a good tonewood. It's used in many expensive high-end guitars & basses. And how do you know this fake is basswood? Some are Asian mahogany & maple. Besides, wood plays a small part in your overall tone with solid-body electric guitars. Wood is very important with acoustics, but not so much with solid-body electrics. It's all about the electronics.
@skipstalforce ToneWood is a well documented hoax perpetuated by people trying to sell you something way more expensive than it cost them to produce, electric guitars get 100% of what people refer to as "Tone" from the electronics ( pickups and amp ). I have acrylic guitars with no wood in them other than the neck, even acrylic head stock, they sound awesome! There is no "Tone Wood" involved in them what so ever.
@jarrodhroberson I agree to an extent. With solid-body electric guitars MOST of the tone comes from the electronics, but the woods do contribute to SOME of the tone. Strats made of Alder, Ash, Poplar, Mahogany, Plywood, Plexiglass, Aluminum, etc. ALL still sound like Strats, but they do sound a little different from each other.
The real question is,if it says GIBSON it is good,if the chinese so called GIBSON didn't say GIBSON it would be a piece of shit.According to 90% of the posts on these copies say "it's an Epiphone with and different headstock".But if it had the Epiphone headstock it is shit, but if it said GIBSON on here then it is gold. Also since you've worked on so many would you "refret, fret dress and polish, change the pickups, then rewire the whole guitar, then strobe tune and set up, for $20.THX
Actually, this is a matter of luck. Some chinese Gibsuns are good, and some are bad. Just change electronics, pickups and if playing matters more than name, chinese Gibson will be good, too. At least it is worth it's price, but personally i'd buy Epiphone(that's what I did) that fake Gibson, Epis are at last inspected by qualified specialists.
Nothing will ever surpass the quality of an authentic Gibson, ever! having said that, these "knock-offs" are great for what you pay for them. I own 5 real Gibsons. I always wanted a double neck like Alex Leifson from Rush played but there was no way I could afford $3900 for a guitar, so I got a Chinese knock off for 1/10 the price. Long story short, one tenth the price for half the quality. I am pleased over all and will buy one again for a project guitar. They are essentially Epiphones.
your second les paul is a fake or "Knock off" made by ozzrocker or some other company based in china. they say they r made in U.S.A. but they r not. They paint the internal electronics cavideys black, they usualy have epi parts because they r made in epi factorys, so i was on the look out when u said they were epi pick ups. i have a few qs for u about that chinese lp
@WelcometoMidnight Upgrading the pickups will help a lot, but these fakes often also need: pots & caps, tuners, nut, bridge, input jack, fret-dress & set-up. They make good project guitars. The woods, construction & finishes are usually pretty good.
@WelcometoMidnight Keep in mind, you can find affordable well-made electronics & hardware, you don't have to spend a lot. Check out GFS (Guitar Fetish) & StewMac. And you don't have to do everything all at once. The stock bridge, tuners, pots & caps should work okay for a while. Most important things are pickups, nut (they're often cut very poorly), fret-dress (they often need leveling), and set-up.
@MrRokkas The ones I've seen all had working truss rods...Allenhead style, just like Epiphones have. The woods sometimes vary but they're mostly Asian Mahogany (Nato) & Maple. Sometimes they're Basswood or Alder...and my friend has 2 of these that are both Maple bodies & necks. They're both very well-made. Not bad for $300.
USA. I own a 2009 USA made Les Paul Traditional, just a fantastic guitar. The Americans sure can make guitars. I'm not really a fan of the Classic because of the colour of the inlays, but hey, a Les Paul is a Les Paul at the end of the day.
lol. i hope u know that the first one is definately NOT a USA made gibson, ESPECIALLY if it was 600 usd. anyway, just look at it. look at the fucking headstock
@usuck329 Actually, it is real. Used Les Paul Classics can go from anywhere between $500-$1,500, depending on condition.
All that aside, the Classic (Gibson USA) looks and sounds (and I can gaurantee that it feels better too, as I own one) a helluva lot better, hands down!
Dude, I am so impressed with your videos. I don't know much about guitars and last week I went to Guitar Center and asked one of the guys about differences in some guitars made in the US and other countries; to make the story short, he pretty much ended up talking about why the US is "the best country in the world". Then I watched your video and strongly believe that the real ripoff here is Gibson selling guitars for $2000.
WOW 600 USD for a Gibson USA LP Classic. That is a steal, regardless of whether it had repaired neck. It's cheaper than what we would pay for an Epiphone LP in Romania.
As for the China LP Standard I find it sounding really muffled. Looks good though, and could easily decorate the walls of a bar or my house :)
@little1wing My friend took his guitars to a professional guitar repair tech who replaced & cut the new nuts, did the complete fret-dress & set-ups, all for $125 each guitar. He did a great job. I take all of my guitars in for that work too. Well worth the money!
And if you want the guitar to play and feel like silk, the frets should really be leveled and crowned right and polished up like glass. They can copy a real Gibson all they want, and mabye do a fine job, but I just want a guitar with real time and sweat put into the fretwork. I'd take that over pickups and hardware quality and all that. I doubt either Gibson or China finishes their frets right anyway
I don't really care about anything but the fretwork and neck. If I could get a guitar that comes leveled and crowned or even plek'd at a decent price I'd bite. I don't care where its made, I want it to play nice and neckwork is what gets sacrificed most in the build process.
@little1wing Yes, a fret-dress is a step that's often skipped with these fakes & on many other guitars too, even some expensive ones...but that's an easy fix. My friend has 2 fakes & after replacing the nuts (they were poorly cut), level/crown/polish the frets, replace most of the hardware & electronics, & set-ups, they now look/feel/play/sound fantastic...& still cost a fraction of the Gibson price. The necks were straight & the construction is very good. Some fakes are very well made.
how the hell can you " recognize " if its a use or a japan guitar / bass
or whatever . i mean in your 2 videos . i found no difference bettween those 2 guitars .both had , if not same sound , GREAT SOUND . which do you prefere most ?
and why all we ( including me ) dont like to buy japan guitars/basses and prefere the " real " company organs ? i mean ... which is finally the difference ?
Hello! Firstly, I would like to congratulate you for the nice review. Second: awesome guitars, dude! lol. I also would like to ask where did you buy the chinese one (site and seller). Finally: do you think these Gibson replicas are better than korean Epiphones (I have an Epiphone Les Paul Standard 1996 - Korea and I'm thinking of selling it to buy a "Gibson China")? Thanks!
My issue is not that China is building guitars, even replicas, ( I've owned close to 100 guits in my life and some where very nice Asian axes) my problem is with the copies. Why use somebody else's name? probably because you would'nt buy the exact same LP copy you love so much if it had "Ginsun Wespal Made in China" stamped with BIG WHITE letters on the headstock...thats my point. Showing somebody your art does not allow them to steal your name if that is your best argument.
@bsharporbflat Why use somebody else's name? Because the guitars are COUNTERFEIT! That's the whole point of a counterfeit...to imitate. Just like with fake Gucci handbags, sunglasses, fake Nike clothes and shoes, etc. People like name brands but they are often WAY overpriced so some people will settle for the much more affordable fakes. It's that simple.
You should buy a LEGAL Epiphone instead of an illegal Gibson........about the same price and you still buy American , made in Korea by Gibson to fight back against cheap copies with very bad quality control and the name Gibson on the neck and stamped MADE IN THE USA...Gretsch (another American icon) had to do the same with their new electromatic series made in Korea. Wtf is wrong with America? I know you have less money but do you sill have a little pride?........
@bsharporbflat Epiphones haven't been made in Korea for many years. Fake Gibsons from China appeared shortly after Gibson moved Epi production there in 2002. Fake Gibsons come loaded with Epi parts & features. Gibson should never have moved production to China, the counterfeit capital of the world. Gibson basically taught the counterfeiters how to build their guitars. That's what Gibson gets for being greedy & using cheaper labor. And they even raised Epi prices! That's greed for ya.
went to the mall with my wife...thought we'd check out one of the high end purse shops to see what the fuss was about...i opened up a $800 purse to find a tag marked 'made in china'. i figure if some person at a local market or festival is selling 'counterfeit' products that are also made in china, then whats the difference since the real deal is made there as well....also if you want a quality piece from china, im sure you can spend the money and get quality...you can get crap from anywhere
Oh...I forgot to ask; metaphorical dogshit...is that less expensive than dogshit IRL or about the same price?... Just having a laugh, no harm intended. :-)
@seearrsea You do realize of course that I'm joking when taking everything literaly? I'm uploading videos on Youtube to amuse people and maybe for the ocasional debate that these videos seem to create but purely on a non offensive level.
I don't support child labour or any non ethical labour conditions one might suggest. I don't endorse these guitars or any "knock-offs" either for that matter but I don't have anything against them. The Chinese growing industry is nothing anyone can supress arguing that buying chinese produced goods are wrong. I happen to like these guitars and I don't think that they are causing The Gibson company much harm. Maybe it's the other way around like the AFD slash signature...a replica of a replica.
@LesPaulDuderino "Maybe it's the other way around like the AFD slash signature...a replica of a replica."
Excellent point. Gibson ripped off the luthier who made that guitar. For those who don't know, the LP style guitar Slash used while recording 'Appetite for Destruction' was a Gibson replica made by some luthier from California. It was NOT a Gibson. In 2010 Gibson made an 'Appetite for Destruction' Slash Les Paul and their suggested MSRP is over $9000.
I bought this guitar well aware that it's no real Gibson. I seem to have less experience with dog shit than you have but It really surprises me that people trade with feces at all. I like the two LP:s I got from China and they are much better than you so delicately imply. Not as good as my real Gibsons but thats a given.
@LesPaulDuderino I used the term dogshit metaphorically, my apologies if you missed this. By posting vids like this it comes with the territory that people will post as I did. Just exercising the free speech that the poor bastards that were paid a dollar to make your fake don't have.
I do not support buying fakes. Nobody should. I like your playing regardless, but the chinese fake lacked crunch and didn't sound very 'ballsy'. Nice vid regardless and your classic is a sweet guitar.
In my opinion, you were just scammed $350. A fake Gibson LP has no soul and is worth less than its weight in dogshit. Supporters of this bogus industry should be ashamed of themselves. Oversea counterfeiters are laughing at you as they stamp 'MADE IN U.S.A.' on a two-by-four and steal your money... Knockoffs of anything are worthless, so smarten up people...
@seearrsea To say they are all "worthless" or "dogshit" is completely ignorant. Yes, they are hit & miss, but the better ones are Epiphones with Gibson style headstocks. They come loaded with Epi parts & features. They're most likely illegally made in the Epi factories in China and then sold out the back door. My friend has 2 of them and they are both very well made. Even our local luthier & guitar tech was impressed with them.
@OddTimeMan By worthless I meant worth far less than what was paid. Just buy an Epi. Or is it necessary to be a 'poseur' and own a Gypson? You have no idea where the guitar is made. Is it child labour? Is it slave labour? Is that lead or cadmium paint? Who cares anyways, right?
Before you know it, your arsenic tainted toothpaste and styrofoam lined brake pads will be counterfeit and as you careen into that tree after losing your job due to a further depressed economy, you need not wonder why...
@seearrsea You do realize that probably half of the things you own & use was made in China, right? Probably even the computer you're using right now. You may even own some counterfeit goods and don't even realize it (sunglasses, T-shirts, shoes, backpacks, etc.). I'm not saying it's right in any way, but China is the counterfeit capital of the world and they have been for a long time.
@seearrsea Even Gibson uses some Chinese made parts (pots, caps, wire, tuners, etc.). Kluson Deluxe tuners are made in Germany, but Gibson doesn't use them anymore...that's why they now say "Gibson Deluxe" on them. They are Kluson copies...made in China. And it's funny that the Gibson fakes from China appeared after Gibson moved Epiphone production there in 2002. They basically taught the counterfeiters how to make their guitars. Gibson created a monster.
Absolute JUNK! If you can't afford the real deal you could always buy a Carparelli for that price and have a real guitar that you could be proud of. Not one made of saw dust. I've ran into a few of these and they are crap.
@19army56 My friend has 2 and they are both very well made with solid woods, not sawdust. They are basically Epiphone LP Customs with Gibson style headstocks. They came loaded with Epi parts & features. They're most likely made in the Epi factories in China. But yes, some are poorly made. They are hit & miss.
@magus5200 i do ,,, and i bet there a big difference in the feel of the guitar especially at very high volume thats when i really see the difference in good guitar at high volumes
@magus5200 American Standard Strats cost $999. Or you could get the American made Highway One Strat for $699. They are essentially the same guitar. You save money on the finish. Same with Gibson Faded vs Gibson Standard.
Excellent video, nice comparison. I guess what many young viewers may not realize is the counterfeit guitar shown is not legal to import or re-sale in the USA, i.e. copyright infringement, & improper country of origin stamp, customs violation, so once you get it, it's like a faux Rolex watch, enjoy it but don't get caught trying to sell it, or advertise it for sale, or better yet don't ever buy one, just buy a new Epiphone for about the same money with lifetime warranty, and better craftsmanship

both guitars have a great sound and quality, but you can notice that the sound of the second is "very open" for a les paul guitar to sound... thats because it was made of basswood and not mahogany or alder, that are usually used to build les paul guitars
guitarplay234 2 months ago
@guitarplay234 The woods vary with these fakes. My friend has 2 that are made of maple (bodies & necks). But some are Asian mahogany, basswood or alder. But keep in mind that with solid-body electric guitars MOST of your tone comes from the electronics, not the wood. Wood is way more important with acoustic guitars.

wretcheddog 3 months ago
There is no doubt that Gibson you Bought from a questionable dealer in China is a FAKE I know this because I WORK FOR GIBSON GUITARS USA located on Massman Drive Nashville TN, 37210 and we do not make scarf Joints or scarf cuts on the neck (the diaginal joint on the neck ) we do not paint the electrical junction box Black, they do that on FAKES to cover up the fact that the body is made with a cheap wood or Plywood with a thin Venere layered over it.
denis18939 3 months ago
@denis18939 My friend has 2 Gibson fakes from China. The control cavities are painted with shielding paint. The wood can be seen in the pickup cavities & toggle switch cavity...they are not painted. And they are not plywood, they're maple...but the woods vary with these fakes, some are Asian mahogany, some Basswood, some Alder. I wish Gibson would use the scarf-joint because it fixes the weak neck issue with one-piece necks & angled headstocks.

I can hear a definate deference, my ear prefers GibsoN!
skipstalforce 3 months ago
@skipstalforce Sure there's a difference, but the real question is: Is it a $2,000 difference? I don't think so. A simple pickup swap, or just a tweak of your EQ, will erase that difference in tone. Use the money you saved to buy a nice all-tube amp. Most of your overall sound comes from your amp, not your guitar. A good all-tube amp will do wonders for your tone.
OddTimeMan 3 months ago 2
@OddTimeMan I'm sorry I have to disagree with you. Yes a good tube amp will make a difference but thats just part of the equation. This thing is made of bass wood, this crap is only good for doll houses and burning your enemys. Mahoganey is a tone wood, there is a difference that your ears can hear. One thing all big name acts have in common, they don't play fake crap, there is a difference.
skipstalforce 3 months ago
@skipstalforce You amp is a HUGE part of your overall tone. A nice all-tube amp & a well-designed speaker cab will make even an inexpensive guitar sound good. Jimmy Page got great tone out of a cheap masonite Danelectro guitar. Eddie Van Halen played a homemade guitar made of inexpensive parts. And I have a few inexpensive guitars that sound great through my all-tube amps. And there are a ton of examples of guitars made of plywood, plexiglass, aluminum, carbon fiber, etc. that sound amazing.
OddTimeMan 3 months ago 2
@skipstalforce Basswood is a good tonewood. It's used in many expensive high-end guitars & basses. And how do you know this fake is basswood? Some are Asian mahogany & maple. Besides, wood plays a small part in your overall tone with solid-body electric guitars. Wood is very important with acoustics, but not so much with solid-body electrics. It's all about the electronics.
OddTimeMan 3 months ago 7
@skipstalforce ToneWood is a well documented hoax perpetuated by people trying to sell you something way more expensive than it cost them to produce, electric guitars get 100% of what people refer to as "Tone" from the electronics ( pickups and amp ). I have acrylic guitars with no wood in them other than the neck, even acrylic head stock, they sound awesome! There is no "Tone Wood" involved in them what so ever.
jarrodhroberson 2 weeks ago
@jarrodhroberson sorry., I know from experience that ain't true
skipstalforce 2 weeks ago

WelcometoMidnight 7 months ago
@WelcometoMidnight Upgrading the pickups will help a lot, but these fakes often also need: pots & caps, tuners, nut, bridge, input jack, fret-dress & set-up. They make good project guitars. The woods, construction & finishes are usually pretty good.
OddTimeMan 7 months ago 11
@OddTimeMan Thanks, i guess i will have to save money for the hardware too!
WelcometoMidnight 7 months ago
@WelcometoMidnight Keep in mind, you can find affordable well-made electronics & hardware, you don't have to spend a lot. Check out GFS (Guitar Fetish) & StewMac. And you don't have to do everything all at once. The stock bridge, tuners, pots & caps should work okay for a while. Most important things are pickups, nut (they're often cut very poorly), fret-dress (they often need leveling), and set-up.
OddTimeMan 7 months ago
@OddTimeMan You forgot a working truss rod, if it has one and proper tone woods! For the money the Chinas are a complete rip off!
MrRokkas 2 weeks ago
@MrRokkas The ones I've seen all had working truss rods...Allenhead style, just like Epiphones have. The woods sometimes vary but they're mostly Asian Mahogany (Nato) & Maple. Sometimes they're Basswood or Alder...and my friend has 2 of these that are both Maple bodies & necks. They're both very well-made. Not bad for $300.

OddTimeMan 10 months ago
And if you want the guitar to play and feel like silk, the frets should really be leveled and crowned right and polished up like glass. They can copy a real Gibson all they want, and mabye do a fine job, but I just want a guitar with real time and sweat put into the fretwork. I'd take that over pickups and hardware quality and all that. I doubt either Gibson or China finishes their frets right anyway

I don't really care about anything but the fretwork and neck. If I could get a guitar that comes leveled and crowned or even plek'd at a decent price I'd bite. I don't care where its made, I want it to play nice and neckwork is what gets sacrificed most in the build process.
little1wing 10 months ago
@little1wing Yes, a fret-dress is a step that's often skipped with these fakes & on many other guitars too, even some expensive ones...but that's an easy fix. My friend has 2 fakes & after replacing the nuts (they were poorly cut), level/crown/polish the frets, replace most of the hardware & electronics, & set-ups, they now look/feel/play/sound fantastic...& still cost a fraction of the Gibson price. The necks were straight & the construction is very good. Some fakes are very well made.

kleedje009 1 year ago
My issue is not that China is building guitars, even replicas, ( I've owned close to 100 guits in my life and some where very nice Asian axes) my problem is with the copies. Why use somebody else's name? probably because you would'nt buy the exact same LP copy you love so much if it had "Ginsun Wespal Made in China" stamped with BIG WHITE letters on the headstock...thats my point. Showing somebody your art does not allow them to steal your name if that is your best argument.
bsharporbflat 1 year ago
@bsharporbflat Why use somebody else's name? Because the guitars are COUNTERFEIT! That's the whole point of a counterfeit...to imitate. Just like with fake Gucci handbags, sunglasses, fake Nike clothes and shoes, etc. People like name brands but they are often WAY overpriced so some people will settle for the much more affordable fakes. It's that simple.
OddTimeMan 1 year ago 7
You should buy a LEGAL Epiphone instead of an illegal Gibson........about the same price and you still buy American , made in Korea by Gibson to fight back against cheap copies with very bad quality control and the name Gibson on the neck and stamped MADE IN THE USA...Gretsch (another American icon) had to do the same with their new electromatic series made in Korea. Wtf is wrong with America? I know you have less money but do you sill have a little pride?........
bsharporbflat 1 year ago
@bsharporbflat Epiphones haven't been made in Korea for many years. Fake Gibsons from China appeared shortly after Gibson moved Epi production there in 2002. Fake Gibsons come loaded with Epi parts & features. Gibson should never have moved production to China, the counterfeit capital of the world. Gibson basically taught the counterfeiters how to build their guitars. That's what Gibson gets for being greedy & using cheaper labor. And they even raised Epi prices! That's greed for ya.

LesPaulDuderino 1 year ago
@LesPaulDuderino "Maybe it's the other way around like the AFD slash signature...a replica of a replica."
Excellent point. Gibson ripped off the luthier who made that guitar. For those who don't know, the LP style guitar Slash used while recording 'Appetite for Destruction' was a Gibson replica made by some luthier from California. It was NOT a Gibson. In 2010 Gibson made an 'Appetite for Destruction' Slash Les Paul and their suggested MSRP is over $9000.
So is Gibson ripping someone off?
LunarFeet 1 year ago
@LunarFeet no, because that luthier used gibson's trademark without proper authorisation in the first place.
Blompcube 11 months ago
I bought this guitar well aware that it's no real Gibson. I seem to have less experience with dog shit than you have but It really surprises me that people trade with feces at all. I like the two LP:s I got from China and they are much better than you so delicately imply. Not as good as my real Gibsons but thats a given.
LesPaulDuderino 1 year ago
@LesPaulDuderino I used the term dogshit metaphorically, my apologies if you missed this. By posting vids like this it comes with the territory that people will post as I did. Just exercising the free speech that the poor bastards that were paid a dollar to make your fake don't have.
I do not support buying fakes. Nobody should. I like your playing regardless, but the chinese fake lacked crunch and didn't sound very 'ballsy'. Nice vid regardless and your classic is a sweet guitar.
seearrsea 1 year ago 2
In my opinion, you were just scammed $350. A fake Gibson LP has no soul and is worth less than its weight in dogshit. Supporters of this bogus industry should be ashamed of themselves. Oversea counterfeiters are laughing at you as they stamp 'MADE IN U.S.A.' on a two-by-four and steal your money... Knockoffs of anything are worthless, so smarten up people...
seearrsea 1 year ago
@seearrsea To say they are all "worthless" or "dogshit" is completely ignorant. Yes, they are hit & miss, but the better ones are Epiphones with Gibson style headstocks. They come loaded with Epi parts & features. They're most likely illegally made in the Epi factories in China and then sold out the back door. My friend has 2 of them and they are both very well made. Even our local luthier & guitar tech was impressed with them.
OddTimeMan 1 year ago
@OddTimeMan By worthless I meant worth far less than what was paid. Just buy an Epi. Or is it necessary to be a 'poseur' and own a Gypson? You have no idea where the guitar is made. Is it child labour? Is it slave labour? Is that lead or cadmium paint? Who cares anyways, right?
Before you know it, your arsenic tainted toothpaste and styrofoam lined brake pads will be counterfeit and as you careen into that tree after losing your job due to a further depressed economy, you need not wonder why...
seearrsea 1 year ago
@seearrsea You do realize that probably half of the things you own & use was made in China, right? Probably even the computer you're using right now. You may even own some counterfeit goods and don't even realize it (sunglasses, T-shirts, shoes, backpacks, etc.). I'm not saying it's right in any way, but China is the counterfeit capital of the world and they have been for a long time.
OddTimeMan 1 year ago
@seearrsea Even Gibson uses some Chinese made parts (pots, caps, wire, tuners, etc.). Kluson Deluxe tuners are made in Germany, but Gibson doesn't use them anymore...that's why they now say "Gibson Deluxe" on them. They are Kluson copies...made in China. And it's funny that the Gibson fakes from China appeared after Gibson moved Epiphone production there in 2002. They basically taught the counterfeiters how to make their guitars. Gibson created a monster.
