Its a simple answer to the problem isnt it? Give MPs a fixed budget to cover what the average cost should be, and they can spend it on what they like without moaning. If they want a posher house or better decoration to it, tough they can use their own money for that.

You don't believe in taxes..? Well lets picture that world for a minute. In order for it to work you would need to pay everytime you used a road, every time you entered a park, used a pavement, visited a doctor/hospital, you would receive no state pension when you hit retirement age, there would be no street lamps, non privately owned buildings would be in ruins, every injection you got youd have to pay for etc. Theres a reason tax exists, how can a government do these things with no revenue..?

mrbass - All i can say about taxes is that theyve existed since the feudal systems through to Communist Russia (taxes under Lenin's NEP, requisitioning before and after that, but still..) and while it may seem unfair, and you may not use enough facilities to warrant all the tax you pay, its the only system thats ever existed successfully since organised countries.(yes i know there are a few examples of countries so wealthy from oil money they dont need tax but thats not practical anywhere else)
those things are what council tax is for sure. minimal taxing is needed for the reasons you describe purely because it is inconvenient to pay every time that you use a road. but you certainly shouldnt have to pay for things you dont use. income and inheritance taxes are abominations. privatising things would lead to better healthcare,education and more money in peoples pockets.

Personally i think inheritence taxes help reduce large sums of money being kept for hundreds of years by a few people, when the original person who owned that money is long dead. 2. Labour has had over ten years to reform the system. Aside from allowing elected peers into the Lords, they have done nothing.
3. PR should be brought in to replace first-past-the-post, giving people a greater say in the electoral process.
4. After one PM's term is over, fresh elections should be held.
5. The British people should be allowed to vote on the Europe question.
6. The Iraq cabinet minutes should be made public.

You don't believe in taxes..? Well lets picture that world for a minute. In order for it to work you would need to pay everytime you used a road, every time you entered a park, used a pavement, visited a doctor/hospital, you would receive no state pension when you hit retirement age, there would be no street lamps, non privately owned buildings would be in ruins, every injection you got youd have to pay for etc. Theres a reason tax exists, how can a government do these things with no revenue..?

mrbass - All i can say about taxes is that theyve existed since the feudal systems through to Communist Russia (taxes under Lenin's NEP, requisitioning before and after that, but still..) and while it may seem unfair, and you may not use enough facilities to warrant all the tax you pay, its the only system thats ever existed successfully since organised countries.(yes i know there are a few examples of countries so wealthy from oil money they dont need tax but thats not practical anywhere else)

those things are what council tax is for sure. minimal taxing is needed for the reasons you describe purely because it is inconvenient to pay every time that you use a road. but you certainly shouldnt have to pay for things you dont use. income and inheritance taxes are abominations. privatising things would lead to better healthcare,education and more money in peoples pockets.
