  • Remember this like yesterday! Fall '87. Sr Year HS. This was a good slow down from heavy metal of the day. Don't get me wrong I loved my metal too. But bands like REM and Replacements were needed to offset the heavy stuff. Can't have too much of a good thing.

  • Listening to The Mats always makes me smile....I absolutely love them.

  • It amazes me this is from '87, this couldve easily come out now

  • Amazing song. Perfect.

  • Thank you for this video because it clarifies that the line is: "He never buys ANN-Y smokes" NOT: "He never buys AND he smokes" Cheers.

  • It looks like one person bumped their head and hit the thumbs down key. How in the world can you give this song a thumbs down? One of the greatest songs ever. Go back to that pop crap on the radio loser!!

  • @melodyandzoe This actually is pretty pop sounding man. No disrespect, I like the Replacements but they are poppy.

  • @thespecter2 Nothing wrong with being poppy..

  • Greatest song ever!

  • I have a road tunes mix on my ipod and this is the lead song. EVEY SINGLE TIME I play it and someone is with me that has never heard of The Replacements, they end up asking me,"Who are these guys?!?" Hahaha! It's been played in so many movie soundtracks because it's such a fantastic song!

  • this is a great song but were does ashtrays dirty floors and filthy jokes fit in?

  • As much as I like this song I think it would sound better without the horns

  • If you don't like the replacements, you've never been a teenager. GTFO. I'm a confused as shit 19 year old in betweener, and this shit speaks to me. So kiss and or suck an ass...ass.

  • @LaGreatChrisMaxie

Why do teenagers on youtube always love to bring up the fact that they're teenagers?

  • @bluebettle they want a cookie

  • @theband1969 I'd fuckin love a cookie.

  • @LaGreatChrisMaxie i tried to send one but now my disk drive is has chocolate smeared in it

  • @theband1969 good job forming a sentance ass hole

  • Great song !

  • such an amazing song. paul westerberg = hero.... it's ok to see that some folks dont like this... there has to be some narrow minded people in the world, right?

  • i love this song!!

  • the mats songs never get old for me. This song is as classic as they come though most people have never heard it. The magic is in the simple lyrics that convey a deep longing and the simple phrase of "I can't wait...". And those Memphis Horns are killer... but his band cover a lot of ground, check out Nightclub Jitters or Answering Machine or Swinging Party or Left of the Dial or Here Comes A Regular or Never Mind etc etc etc etc

  • @CapnCanard it should get old 4 u because this song sucks a whole bunch of ass. no offense.

  • @eighteen18jts

If you don't like it don't watch it. Or watch it and tell everybody how it makes you feel, I'm not your keeper, you can do what you want.

  • @eighteen18jts do you like to suck ass?

  • @SDCDIABLO ARE U CRACKED? WHY WOULD U ASK ME THAT QUESTION FOR?

  • oh maaaaaan! just saw this covered live by Justin Townes Earle the other night. what an unbelievable song.

  • I liked the version on Shit Hits the Fans better; still, a great tune and a band that was responsible for some of the best rock n' roll of their time.

  • @cherrydot24 KILL YOOURSELF

  • @cherrydot24 you best be trolling or imma bop ya on da head bozo

  • GOD THEYRE SO GOOD....WERE. I WAS GRACED ONCE...UCSD////

  • Just so damn good. One of the few songs the punk rockers and radio listeners can agree on.

  • Saw them with X at MSU in 1984. They were drunk - we were drunk - and a good time was had by all! One highlight - if you can call it that - that I distinctly remember was an epic version of the The Doors "Light My Fire" without a keyboard in sight :) As I recall, it was essentially a time killer while the Stinson brothers were fighting with each other!

  • so beautiful

  • I CAN'T WAIT!

  • I fell in love with a girl over this song.

  • This is Rammy's favorite band.

  • @TehUberNooberFilms

    hehe volume 3...

  • @TehUberNooberFilms This is my Mammy's fav band!

  • This song reminds me getting wasted......yes.

  • remnds me of a box tops song wonder why? lol

  • maestros! these motherfuckers leave me wordless... huury up hurry up............sheeeit

  • I agee MrBuc128.they are timeless.

  • The most underrated underappreciated band of all time. Many of the underground bands did not make it big because they were all image and no substance. This band had incredibly well written songs. I think they were ahead of their time.Few bands can balance hard edge music with melody the way these guys did. I still listen to them today and nothing about their music sounds dated.

  • @MrBuc128

    Well said!

  • I saw them back in the eighties somewhere in DC. I was really drunk.

  • Anybody come up with that SNL clip?

  • Classic alternative, pre-indie, get-down.

  • i listen to this song on the walk to my school and am always embarresed when

the bus passes and im moveing to it

  • this was the last replacements album

even tho it should have been TIM because chris was out after TIM, this album has the last of the replacements heart

everything after that was just a westerberg endeavor

  • @cjmac19 Wasn't Chris, it was Bobby. But I do agree, the last great Mats record. Chris was gone after Don't tell a soul.

  • The first time I heard this song I knew it would become one of my all time favorites.

  • when i was in college, all i would listen to was the replacements and aphex twin, an odd combination, i know. lol

  • @ri394 god, i love you

  • A wannabe smash hit .. Paul did it on Saturday Night Live along with Knockin' on Mine from his 14 songs. I don't think all that many people at home knew what a genius they were watching .. but then nothing surprises me.

  • Poetry

    Jesus rides beside me

    He never buys

    any smokes

  • thanks man ,, excellent band fucking awesome ,, pisses on u2 and oasis shit !!!!

  • yes

  • does it really get an better than the mats. puts to shame the music today.what a majical band.

  • This song immediatley brought me back....Back to driving around Lake of the Isles, smokin', drinking and enjoying summer in Minneapolis.

  • one of the best sogns ever, and one of the best ever live performances on SNL.

  • @JohnCronin103 I don't think they played this on SNL.

  • @Raford146

I apologize, you are correct they were banned from SNL after performing two other songs....so where would i have seen this live on TV? Man I remember I loved it.

  • @JohnCronin103 Westerberg played it on SNL solo. It's on the internets somewhere... and yeah its pretty awesome

  • Great great song. Thanks!

  • P.W.,you're the best!!

  • Love these guys! Great song......Paul Westerberg's signature voice still gives me chills!

  • Justin Townes Earle does a great bluegrass version of this.

  • Play this song to any guy friend or female potential girlfriend and they will ALL responding positively when they hear this song. It's a no-brainer....Paul Westerberg's trademark vocals sincerely echoing a life of disappointment, hardship and eventual recovery. It's no coincidence that this music, the riffs, and it's lyrics will become timeless.

  • This is the song I'll eventually commit suicide to. So beautiful.

  • @5billionmustdie

Grammatical error. You should have written: "This is the song to which I will eventually commit suicide."

Thumbs down on you for not appreciating an amazing song without selfishly inflecting you're own personal bullshit.

  • This song is absolutely beautiful. I gotta say: Thanks Green Day, for mentioning the Replacements in an interview. I've just discovered them like a week ago.

Paul's singing has so much emotion here and I love when his voice cracks, it's charming.

  • @Rosesfan1 You and axl can go fuck each other you fuckin douche bag! Eat my shit!

  • @marksj43 Lmfao!!!! Lol: Me and Axl fucking each other is the best think that can happen to me!

  • @jsavorn this song bites too much ass, no offense.

  • @eighteen18jts oooo baby can u suck dick too? HHAHAHHA
