(2003) the half-documentary of Sweetback, you could recall some of those events. it's interesting to note that earth wind and fire actually did the song and the sex scenes with melvin van peebles were unsimulated. i was a kid when it came out and all you would hear on am radio was a woman "in the heat of the moment" scream: SWEET, SWWWEEEET BACK !!!! (which was cause for giggles in front of mama....)

i watched Sweet Sweetbacks 2003 version playing by the sun of melvin.

It´s a great movie, the man put his hole energy in this film, respect. I don´t know the older version but i think it must be a great movie, cause it´s not the typicall hollywood stuff with some stereotypes.

If you have already, then disregard my comment, you are entitled to your opinion. But If you haven't, I strongly recommend you watch the movie "Baadassss" starring Mario Van Peebles (Melvin's son) that was made several years ago. It's a movie about the making of this movie and you will understand why this film (Sweetback's) was indeed "revolutionary" and why it was very important for it to be made.
