hi sorry to be a pain, but again ive noticed in the video u plug the sescom cable into the camera with the two loose ends and you plug one into a mp player and one into a audio recorder, but thats not right because the sescom cable has an input on there so how can you plug it into two devices? then i did notice then at 0:44 the input you done into the audio device is the side you origianlly put into the camera? im so confused by this tutorial
@newhousefilmsuk No worries, the input for the mic is shown with a male adapter to work with the field recorder. If you had a mic or recorder with a 3.5mm male cable, you would just plug it into the Sescom cable without the adapter. Sorry for any confusion. Hope this helps!
@newhousefilmsuk You are correct. If the cord is flipped with two danglers from a 7D, your audio will probably peak. The cord is marked camera. That end goes into the camera the other end marked LINE goes to your audio device.
Hi you say this cable works with the canon 7D but as in the video you plug it into a Canon 7D then show the T2i, so does this work with the canon 7D as u cant control audio manually with the 7D
@newhousefilmsuk Yes the cable works with the 7D. The T2i is used here just to show the audio level coming in from the cable. We have had good results using this setup.
I feel like there's some confusion going on out there. I own a T3i and I keep spotting people saying "it has manual control so you don't have to worry about AGC." That's not true. It gives you manual control of your audio levels, but the AGC never stops functioning. I've been using an MKE 400 and all I hear is that irritating bed of hiss. The AGC is very much alive.
Canon was surprised hot the video "feature' intended to be an occasional thing, was taken very seriously and used my filmakers. We now have to spend a fortune in all kinds of devices making this camera far from practical or portable for pro video by having to take all that shit with us......I hope Canon 5D Mark III will come with headphone jacks, audio meter visible at all times and at least an unbalanced audio inputs.
@Beyond90Seconds While I have not actually tried that particular setup, in theory I don't see any reason why not. The Sescom cable would just go inline between the BeachTek box and the camera. Let me know how you make out if you try this!
@MarkertekVideoSupply I appreciate the fast response. I probably will give this a shot. Would be glad to let you know how it goes. Thanks for making this product.
@MarkertekVideoSupply i am using t31 and im on maual audio settings, using a rode vic mic and i still get loud gain hiss will this cale defeat this hiss
@scornofx I'm not sure why you're having problems while using the manual controls. Have you tried a different mic? Since you have manual control you shouldn't need this cable but I suppose you could go to auto and then use this cable with a test tone to trick the AGC. However, you shouldn't have to.
If you are having problems using this splitter and a mono mic, read this.
My mono mic was not recording any sound. My Azden SMX 10 works fine, a constant signal on the left channel, audio on the right. However, my AudioTechnica ATR3350, a mono lapel did not record anything. To fix this, I made a wiring change by reversing the input wires on the “Y” splitter at the mic’s connection jack. Both mics now work, perhaps just this particular mic was an issue.
Alright, I am confused guys. In the video it shows Dennis plugging the cable into a Canon 7D. Then when he shows the screen on the back of the camera, it is displaying audio levels. That functionality is not available on the 7D, only on the 5D (via the latest firmware upgrade). The Canon 5D does not need the cable or the MP3 player because this same firmware upgrade also includes the ability to turn off the AGC. Why the heck would you switch cameras in the middle of this shoot?
@hbmorris5558 You are correct. The cable shown is intended for the 7D. The 5D screen with audio levels is only shown to demonstrate the audio level coming in from the recorder and AGC defeat tone from the MP3 player. Sorry for any confusion!
@FrontFoot Check out :21 and the title screen. There is 1 Male connector at the camera side, and 1 male on the other side for connection to an MP3 player to provide the tone and and 1 female for connection to an external microphone/recorder. In this video the female plug is connected to a mini-male to mini-male cable that is plugged into the Zoom H2 recorder.
@FrontFoot A mini male to male cable like this would fit your needs: Markertek part #P312-006. However, please keep in mind that as a rule of thumb unbalanced cable runs should not exceed 6-10 feet in length due to the introduction of interference as length increases.
The cable is connected to a 5D set to auto mode to show the signal level of the constant tone from the MP3 player. The 5D in auto mode treats audio the same as a 7D or T2i - AGC active / no manual control.
