Ok.. for those that do not know.. THESE are not Spetznaz.. these are the VDV, or the Airborne. They are contemporary with the US 82nd and 101st. They do wear the similar blue striped shirt as the Spetznaz but they wear a blue beret. Spetsnaz a red beret, Border Gaurds a green one and Marines black. Russia may have issues with money and they are more capitalist but the military is still very proud and are very tough.

The individual soldiers fight for a somewhat different ideal than most American soldiers .One, they refer to their country as "Mother" ..And the Spetsnaz?? @TillLindmann I'm sorry, but the Navy Seals are technically the best, in almost every combat simulation the Seals win. The ak-47 is a the most durable and reliable rifle in the world, but its not the best. It's inaccurate, and has too much kick, but it is definitely up there with the best. As for technology, that is too broad of a category to say that Russia is ten years ahead of the US. Stats show that we are almost at the same level of technology, we beat you, and you beat us in some aspects

@TillLindmann well i fight in the united states air force, i have flown various Russian aircraft and personally i prefer the united states aircraft far more than the Russian planes, i have used several guns from both army's Ive used the AK-47 you mentioned and i find it ok, but frankly the Scar, M4 and the sniper i am primarily assigned, the Barrett 50 cal. and your dragunov svd i found the Barrett was more accurate at 3000 yrds and the one kilo shot, by far... have a nice day

@zukamiku Please for the love of god when you compare 2 weapons make sure they were made around the same time. You are basically comparing a blunderbuss with a Winchester. Also make sure you compare weapons of the same class. M107 is a dedicated sniper rifle while SVD is a squad sniper rifle. Huge difference. Next time compare the Scar with An-94, M4 with any of the AK-100s series or Aks-74u, and the M107 with the SV-98 or something.

@ushockey08 What do you expect to happen to the economy after the collapse of the USSR in the early 90's? But no matter, their economy is slowly getting better and better now. Oil and gas is the main thing Russians have, so no wonder they are exporting it. Their military isn't out-dated, they have the best long range missiles, very good helicopters, one of the best anti-air weapons, and very good tanks (T-90 plus they said they'll have a new generation tank by 2014).

As for the losing the Cold War there wasn't even a war to lose. It's just two counties that hated each other and one collapsed. It's like saying if Iran's government falls then Isreal "won" the war. There wasn't a war to begin with, thus it is why it was called the Cold War.

@LemonatedOrange The soviet union did lose the cold war. They tried to defeat us in Vietnam, they armed and trained the VC and the NVA in an attempt to drain and collapse our economy. They failed, then we did the same to them in afghanistan and succeeded. And they do not have a good military overall. The only tank they have that even matches the Abrams is the T-90, and they only have 500 of it. We have over 9,000 Abrams. Most of their weapons are massively outdated when compared

@ushockey08 I still stick to the fact that there was no war to win. But I do have to agree the USSR did lose the political war. And yes they only have around 500 T-90s but then again the US only has 1,547 M1A2 abrams in service. The other 7500 are "outdated" M1A1s and third of them are on reserve. Their weapons are not outdated though. Just look at their recent weapons (PAK FA, AN-94, AEK-971, Tigr, KA-52, SU-35). Their army isn't very modern now but it will be in the next few years.

Russia's military has had 20 years of steady decline of capabilities, a puny defense budget when compared to the US, and an overall lack of parity with modern US weapons systems. Where is Russia's equivalent to the Aegis system, to the B-2, etc.? What I will agree with however, is that Russia's nuclear stockpile does pose a major threat and therefore precludes war.
