Catch being that changes in orbit are waaay too slow to be relevant on centuries timescale, much less decades.
Versus over the short term, if you take El Nino, Airborne Dust, Carbon, and Solar Irradiance. You end up with a pretty tight correlation. (And that's not even all the variables involved, just the major ones)
An increasing greenhouse effect is the only thing which can explain why the atmospheric layer above the greenhouse layer is receiving less outgoing infrared radiation, and cooling down.

umm... To have a snow storm there needs to be water evaporation...water evaporation is caused by warmth. It makes sense that there will be more chaotic weather patterns.
Low pressure causes cloud formation...it sucks up the moisture from the ground.
Low pressure is caused by heat... it expands the molecules whereas high pressure causes a compression of molecules... we experience that as cold because radiation is allowed to escape the atmosphere.
The thing isn't about honest efforts to make things better, but abuse of the system. Arbitrary taxes on everything does not mean progress will be made. Carbon footprints and 'credits' are a joke. Even recycling at this point uses more energy than it creates.

The point of recycling is not to create energy it is to keep certain products out of our landfills. So maybe the reason it is failing your mind is because you do not understand why we do it.
Carbon credits are a way of placing the cost of polluting onto the polluter. The cost already exists in the form of causing health problems and changing our climate. If we place the cost onto the industry where it is supposed to be alternative sources will become viable.
Did I SAY the point was to create energy? No. I said it USED more energy than it created. What this means is that the energy used is more than the use provided by its recycle process. To be 'green' (ie: non-wasteful), energy input must be lower than output. I'd suggest you understand what I'm saying before you talk about my "failings."

To be "green" is not necessarily to use less energy it is to reduce consumption and waste. Waste can be in the form of emissions or garbage heading to the landfill.

I'm all for getting 'clean energy', but you wouldn't believe what these enviro-freaks do. They PRAISED and lauded California for building windmill farms. Seriously, there are MASSIVE farms outside 29 Palms... the only problem is, now the enviro-freaks won't let anyone build the POWER LINES to connect those farms to LA. Man's role in global climate change is scientifically documented by a body of science. That is to say that it took numerous and wide ranging studies to show how man's role has led to a changing climate.
There is no one study that is the end all or be all to global climate change. However, there are many people that have put together compilations. Google is a great resource use it.
I haven't put down any stakes, that was my point. A negative can't be proven, after all, only a positive. The assertion of climate change is a positive one, which requires evidence. I can't prove something "doesn't exist," nor can I "stake" my position there.

I would counter that it *is* the responsibility of scientists to regard citizens with non-scientific understandings. I would never expect anyone to believe a word I said, unless I could back it up and explain it. The term Global Warming makes no logical sense. The correct usage is Global Climate Change. On average, temperatures are increasing there will be large areas with increased cooling that is offset by the massive increase of heat in other places.
The real issue is not whether we created it or not its about whether we know how to deal with whats coming. P.S. Much of North America will be protected from drastic change and might even become more fertile, however, many parts of the world will suffer.

Of course man did not change "solar output". El Nino is neither the result of global warming nor does it cause global warming.
El Nino is a naturally occurring process that has to do with ocean temperature and currents. However, global warming is presumed to intensify the effect of an El Nino.
And the point being that solar output has been basically flat for the past 4 deceades.
El Nino is basically just a shift in heat in the ocean from one side of the pacific to the other. It doesn't actually increase the total amount of heat in the world, it just shifts it from the ocean to the air.

Regardless of the science, "Carbon Credits" are nothing but a SCAM by big companies to prevent competition from small companies.
It's the Democrats in this case that want to protect big business. It's not about the "earth". They are ignoring pollution like DU, everything from the chemical industry, in order to set up a "license" to pollute - that they can then take bribes/campaign contributions for.
global warming means the whole planet ON AVERAGE is getting warmer, thus resulting in climate change.... some places may get more snow and rain, others may get long droughts. in the case of Oklahoma, it got alot of snow and that was due to climate change which results from GLOBAL WARMING!!!!

Actually there is a difference between saying "the science is mixed" and that there are "all kinds of scientists who say global warming [is a hoax]." The science is actually very clear, and the reality is that the vast majority--the consensus if you will--of scientists understand much of the climate data, and based on those observations and empirical interpretations, have arrived at the position that global climate change is very real, and an ever-increasing threat to our existence.

When there is warming it leads to much more life on the planet, trees and vegetation especially. They emmitt co2. That is just one example of how warming raises co2 levels. You right, you cant create or destroy energy. The sun warms the earth and it like every natural phenomenon flucutates and is in constant flux. It does not emmitt heat on us in a perfectly steady constant. Not at all. Creating and destroying energy is not the topic at all as far as I can see. No one is suggesting that.

You should also know that the term "Scientist" does not equate to a PhD.
A scientist can be any one who conducts scientific research; it has no bearing on the education of the person. I also know many PhDs who are lucky they can even tie their own shoes. Just because you are a PhD does not mean you are necessarily intelligent nor have any common sense. Putting your trust in someones title regardless of who they are or who they work for is foolish.

An increasing greenhouse effect is the only thing which can explain why the atmospheric layer above the greenhouse layer is receiving less outgoing infrared radiation, and cooling down.
And also why the largest increases in temperature are actually at night, when photosynthesis shuts down, and the amount of carbon in the atmosphere is at it's highest.

If he's wrong, then we're back to Beer-Lambert and those pesky logarithmically diminishing returns, which begs the question of why we should worry over any additional CO2 over 200ppm.

umm... To have a snow storm there needs to be water evaporation...water evaporation is caused by warmth. It makes sense that there will be more chaotic weather patterns.
Low pressure causes cloud formation...it sucks up the moisture from the ground.
Low pressure is caused by heat... it expands the molecules whereas high pressure causes a compression of molecules... we experience that as cold because radiation is allowed to escape the atmosphere.

The thing isn't about honest efforts to make things better, but abuse of the system. Arbitrary taxes on everything does not mean progress will be made. Carbon footprints and 'credits' are a joke. Even recycling at this point uses more energy than it creates.
Does this mean we shouldn't recycle, have solar systems in our homes? Probably not. Every HONEST effort is worthwhile, especially if claims of change are true. This will only be if people rely on the SCIENCE, not corrupted politics.

The point of recycling is not to create energy it is to keep certain products out of our landfills. So maybe the reason it is failing your mind is because you do not understand why we do it.
Carbon credits are a way of placing the cost of polluting onto the polluter. The cost already exists in the form of causing health problems and changing our climate. If we place the cost onto the industry where it is supposed to be alternative sources will become viable.

Did I SAY the point was to create energy? No. I said it USED more energy than it created. What this means is that the energy used is more than the use provided by its recycle process. To be 'green' (ie: non-wasteful), energy input must be lower than output. I'd suggest you understand what I'm saying before you talk about my "failings."

Recycling is not supposed to create energy at all.
I agree that the current system of Carbon Credits is a joke, but it is better than having nothing in place at all. I'm not sure how we can reform it at all. :(

My point was using energy, which we use fossil fuels to create, to recycle, when that energy is 'higher' than the comparative energy-through-use of that recycled product, is not efficient, nor is it 'green.'
I'll tell you how we don't reform. Pay CC's to massive companies who simply pocket the cash, as there is nearly zero regulation to it. Empty feel-good gestures lining corporate pockets is worse than nothing.

I wouldn't stereotype people so easily. I'm a liberal, somewhat-democratish voting, scientifically minded person, and I'm yet to be convinced that A-mankind is causing it, or B-mankind can stop it.
That there is change in the climate does *NOT* mean it is something we've done, or something we can stop. Yes, we can live cleaner, produce clean energy, recycle, live 'green'. However, many people do *NOT* trust the politics that have snatched up global warming and now tout it as a religion.

Large swings in temperature, including extreme cold, are symptoms.
Nobody would question now that the Earth revolves around the sun, but what we experience in our daily lives is the sun moving across the earth. Does somebody want to use that as proof that the sun revolves around us? No, because it's so commonly accepted as fact.

There are MANY questions yet to answer about what is happening and why its happening. The jump from "climate change" to "man is flushing the world down the toilet" is HUGE, and as yet I've seen little proof to justify that jump.
So you can add to your list the "genuinely concerned," the "we're sick of stupid taxes draining us dry," and the "we need to understand this better before we try and 'fix' it" people.

Jeep, I've been in study. I'm not a scientific layman. I'm not easily fooled by 'junk' science, and the information touted by global warming sources SCREAMS of 'junk'. It appeals to our emotional desire to "save the Earth," to authority, to trust, and to politicians who specialized as LAWYERS who have no scientific training to speak of (hello, Gore).
You don't have to explain it, but don't INSULT people for being skeptical either. If you know where the accurate info is, point me there.

Man's role in global climate change is scientifically documented by a body of science. That is to say that it took numerous and wide ranging studies to show how man's role has led to a changing climate.
There is no one study that is the end all or be all to global climate change. However, there are many people that have put together compilations. Google is a great resource use it.

I haven't put down any stakes, that was my point. A negative can't be proven, after all, only a positive. The assertion of climate change is a positive one, which requires evidence. I can't prove something "doesn't exist," nor can I "stake" my position there.
I'm not asking for an "end all be all," I'm asking you for ANYTHING. I've yet to be directed to anything that doesn't appear to jump details or correspond to the global scale issue.

Regardless of what you may think of us skeptics, some of us just need proper convincing.
I would counter that it *is* the responsibility of scientists to regard citizens with non-scientific understandings. I would never expect anyone to believe a word I said, unless I could back it up and explain it. This is part of the reason people have learned to 'ignore' scientists and their pursuits... and their gains. The disconnect creates unnecessary friction.

While I actually agree with you in an ideal setting, it doesn't realistically work that way. If people were going to educate themselves, they'd do it. Obviously, they haven't, and they won't without external motivation. There is too much doubt, too many political route-arounds, too much religion mixing in the business of reality.
If our experts don't step up, who will? Our educational system is nearly useless, and you can't expect laymen to teach laymen (parents with children).

The problem with this is that while the human population is steadily increasing, the amount of plant life on our planet is decreasing at an even faster rate. Which is one reason environmentalist are so adamant about the need to preserve or rain forest and other large natural forest areas.
So the co2 emitters (us) will soon outnumber the co2 'eaters' (plant).

The term Global Warming makes no logical sense. The correct usage is Global Climate Change. On average, temperatures are increasing there will be large areas with increased cooling that is offset by the massive increase of heat in other places.
The real issue is not whether we created it or not its about whether we know how to deal with whats coming. P.S. Much of North America will be protected from drastic change and might even become more fertile, however, many parts of the world will suffer.

They are actually two unique terms.
Global Warming (cause) refers to the increasing radiative forcing.
Climate Change (effect) refers to the result of Global Warming. A relatively rapid destabilization of persistent climate trends.

Of course man did not change "solar output". El Nino is neither the result of global warming nor does it cause global warming.
El Nino is a naturally occurring process that has to do with ocean temperature and currents. However, global warming is presumed to intensify the effect of an El Nino.

And the point being that solar output has been basically flat for the past 4 deceades.
El Nino is basically just a shift in heat in the ocean from one side of the pacific to the other. It doesn't actually increase the total amount of heat in the world, it just shifts it from the ocean to the air.
And it only lasts a few months at a time.
