  • Give me jesus , ithink i need him right now.

  • i remember hearing this song in the mid 70s, in sydney australia, that was a long time ago ,i often play the song lately when times get tough, operator give me jesus on the line.

  • This song and this group always picks me up..........

  • Música para no olvidar.. Buenos, buenos

  • @AlbertoMax71 Cierto!! lo bueno, siempre perdura, nunca desaparece...

  • i wish janis would sing like this MORE often. i absolutely love her.

  • as a person who doesn't6 attend a church or such, i do not think that someone who sings with joy in their voice "jesus" would not mnd.

  • Goosebumps at 3:36... i have seen them live twice, and Janis has the best female voice i have ever experienced !

  • I used to worked for the agency that represented them back in the 70's and they played the Roxy in LA and we all went to the shows. They were amazing in person. Those were fun days. Great talent back then.

  • ohh did i dance to this ,

  • increibles, fabulosos, fantasticos.....

  • Now Laurel and Janis return to sing TOGETHER AGAIN !! they have formed together with Lauren Kinhan the vocal group called "JALALA"

  • Some people seem to think this is Laurel Masse singing lead. It's Janis Siegel. Laurel's on BVs. Great performance anyway! How about a DVD release of this entire Old Grey Whistle Test concert?

  • jesus. she was MT

  • What a set of pipes on that girl!

  • go girl!!

  • i'm a seventeen year old girl who can't get enough Manhattan Transfer! I LOVE the talent!!! harmonies and powerful voices are awesome!

  • One of the best jazz groups for me! Perfect vocal harmony from very talented singers!

  • Cool. She's got Tina Turner AND Janus Joplin in that voice (in her)...

  • It would b great to hear Laurel and Janis sing together..

  • I love Cheryl Betyne! (I'm from Washington State.) However, I appreciate Laurel's silky, sultry tones. It's a different flavor.

  • Even though this is considered a "spiritual" song, there is no way this song could be sung at a Catholic mass. Only songs that have been approved to be included in the Missal can be sung.

That being said, the fact that this particular performer has the same name as me is worth 1000 points alone!!!

BTW-For those of you who are old enough, this is a GREAT song to do "the bump" to. I would recommend you do it to the single.

  • @lajmh get a life, as ghandi said, I like your christ, but your Christians are so unlike your Christ,

Jesus was all about breaking rules, and saved his greatest condemnation for those who claimed to know the mind of God based on a knowledge of tradition, legalistic religion (say, Canon Law, one of the greatest blasphemies of the Christian tradition) and written texts.

  • dit krijg je dus als ze verdomme niet op de radio na een nummer zeggen van wie hij was nu vind ik dat nummer nooit meer en kom ik bij deze kut troep uit....wat een kutmuziek

  • brilliant! perfect voice..and so obnoxous (in a great way).....love this song and she does it just as good live....they are REAL performers...no autotune there..

  • Flawless harmonies!

  • Just saw them in Vincennes, IN, one hour ago. They are still great after 40 years. Well worth the 3 plus hours to get here!

  • My choir is going to have someone do this as a solo. I'm trying out for it. Does any one have any advice that might help with this song?

  • @Mangafoxlover101 try your very best not to suck

  • @koolguy728 LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Mangafoxlover101

Well, if you're going to do a solo, make sure you know the words. For this song, I'd say that's ESPECIALLY true.

  • Wow! Sweet! I liked it.

  • I am singing this for choir. it is a great song!

  • Love this one from way back--but janice siegel is the soloist

  • great song, my fav by them

  • the first time I heard this song it blew me away. I felt like something had been missing in my life! MT is fantastic. Wish I could find this, Baby come back, clap your hands and boy frm New your city on the same CD. Any one know which one?

  • Yes, they actually improve it !

  • We had a lady sing this at our church's "January Jubilee" she really did awesome!

  • She looks like KT Tunstall, doesn't she?

  • And Swiss choirs, too! :)

We sing it also, and the girl who sings the solo part is much better than this. Honestly. Its just amazing.

    ==============================

    YEAH..... SHE WISHES !

  • Thank You! I was 17. We were in the car. It came on the radio. My Mother said "That's pretty jazzy for a song about Jesus". I said "But isn't it catchy?" She nodded with a smile. She was cool.

  • i love this song :D:D:D:D:D

  • Whew - i hope it's an 800 number!

  • Well ... Jesus did pay the bill ... and the price was HUGE!

  • Is this melody lifted from Al Hirt's Java? Anyway, you can sing these lyrics to the first part of Java, and Spervy seems to be very inluenced / inspired by that song!

The tempos vary, but it's unmistakable. To me at least. I 've sung Operator for years but never made the connection until today.

  • Now I really love this song ..

    One of the best........ love

  • I sang this song in choir :)

  • We have to sing this in choir, I may try out for the solo part. :D

  • I think everyone choir in America sings this song some point.

  • Most likely...

  • Wow...too bad you couldn't say something positive, this being a spritual song. I hope your choir isn't your CHURCH choir, for that speaks (negative) volumes of your church's teachings.

If you can't say something nice...

  • Who said anything about being better than you, Steve? I fall short of God's expectations every day, yet I go to sleep knowing I am forgiven. I am far from perfect.. RELIGION doesn't make me God's child. His grace does. As far as God respecting anyone, that's something you are entitled to believe. The blood of His son, Jesus Christ, has washed away my sins. I will rejoice when He comes again to take His children to live in everlasting love and eternity with Him. Hope to see you there.

  • Her voice is so pure at the beginning. Amazinggg.

  • Oh wow, my friend sang this song at my school, and honestly, she was much much better. Her voice was like one octave higher, so maybe that's why. And omg, the high notes that she hit were so crystal, it was amazing.

  • it is so camp but i love it

  • great song

  • I have this 45 and it brings back so many memories! I was just tickled when I found this video!! Thanks so much for posting it :D

  • Absolutely the best jazz group ever, bar none. Individually and together, their voices take a back seat to no one. I remember being in the audience of a few of their live concerts and being astounded at the electricity coming off that stage from them - I'm talking about the original group with Tim, Paul, Janis, and Cheryl. They put on an amazing concert you didn't want to end.

  • Cheryl wasn't in the original line up, it was Laurel Massé.

  • Yes, I know. That's why I mentioned Tim, Paul, Janis, and Cheryl. ;)

  • Ok, sorry.. :)

  • So we are singing this as the senior song this year for our school..and our 4 seniors including me are singing this.

I'm so excited because this is amazing song!!!

  • Ha we're singing this in choir right now! I was so excited when my teacher pulled the music out cos this is such a fantastic song!

  • M/t is great but if you want to hear the best jazz vocal group (and the inspiration for m/t) you have to hear Lambert Hendricks and ross. Annie Ross has a voice that is beyond belief, and their timing is unmatched.

  • i HAD THE CHANCE TO SEE THESE WONDERFUL PERFORMERS BACK IN THE 70'S HOW EVER PUT THIS ON i WOULD LIKE TO THANK YOU FOR THE MEMORIES. AND TO THE M/TRANSFER, THANKS FOR ALL YOUR GOOD MUSIC.

  • Slightly campy, but then they sing...... are there four voices anywhere in their class?? I doubt it. Besides the shorter girl was just so darn cute......

  • So great.

  • FANTASTIC!!!!!

  • Fantastic group and a great song. I wanted to

say that Janice is incredible but they're

    all out of this world.

  • I had the great pleasure of seeing these incredibly talented singers perform last Saturday night at Haugh Performing Arts Center in Glendora, CA!! Wow what a show! This song brought the house down.I've also seen Janice solo act and is awesome!

Thanks guys for signing my album cover! Also saw them years ago at the Greek Theatre here in LA when it rained, anyone else present that night???!

  • Teresa Has Soul!!

  • I don't know how she does that... but she sounds like a sax...that can sing, and she's still doing it, every bit as well as she always has, the harmony and blend of voices is just great.

  • This sounds just a fresh as it did when I first heard it years ago. So glad they decided to record this. Thanks for posting!

  • My dad had this record when I was a kid! Love it, love it, love it! Thanks for posting!

  • I love this song! I sang it in my high school vocal class.
