This is not that hard - just buy solar panels plus charge controller, into 6 volt deep cycle battery bank, to an inverter, and plug it in. (must get inverter with 120/240 or just 240 outlet, because these air conditioners use 220v) They have one at Sound Wisdom in a solar kit that is "plug and play".

You must not have gotten that qoute from me and if you did it had to of included the 6 180 watt 24 volt solar panels. So 4,250 is not to bad considering the unit will cost you nothing more to run. But hey its not for everyone maybe you can go buy some rims for your car instead!

@Iseekoutthetruth I have accomplished doing this but realized very quickly that the amount of solar panels required just to create the voltage to fire the capacitor was ridiculous. And the run times a very minimal at that. Thus the reason for a 100%Dc unit! Im not saying It can not be done but at what cost!

egn83b: While I can appreciate your enthusiasm about going green you should probably investigate the comment you just made. The power company only pays a fraction per watt fed into the grid as where air conditioning is the number one power guzzler in a home, so if I can keep the meter from spinning to begin with you now just saved all that money that they suck from your wallet every day while your not looking!

I think with all that power your wasting on that cooling unit I would just place the panels on the roof and recoupe the money from the power company by spinning the meter backwords and they pay you. Plus when you save up all the money from back feeding you turn of the AC like you always do and never worry about the bill. I think going green is about making tons of money not saving the environment like they want you to believe. Global warming is a scam after all.

@egn83b global warming is not a scam, it is the only way to get people to listen up and conserve energy, power companies like FPL in Fla cannot make huge profits if you conserve energy so they lobby and help create the illusion that global warming is a scam, if anything global warming is good for the environment, if it were not for this scam big corporations would continue to poison your air and water
