Yay from another teacher! I teach violin, and I find that the kids who are willing to bend the box (sometimes literally....) to learn rhythm and expression in unconventional ways usually succeed in expanding their expertise on their traditional instruments as well. I once subbed in a high school where the pep band had ONE trap set and 6 great drummers. They took turns of course, playing the chairs, the floor, and anything they could put their sticks to. Wish I'd had a Stumpf fiddle to bring.
