  • 3:58-4:15 reminds me of Disney's Aladdin.... At least they borrowed scenes from something good!

  • Whats up with the 'cabin boy' ?

  • Why is Sinbad wearing a Turban? Just askin'...

  • Haha, so this is from 1935? I thought it was 1940's; I had to make a amv with this cartoon for a class project. xD

  • omg this so old haha i love these type though :)

i still have a VHS tape with a bunch of these type on it <3

  • We are pirates of the deep blue sea, yo ho de hidey ho. I still sing that spng sometimes.

  • wasn't this on the VHS "50 Classics?" or something like that.

  • @FuneralRoses 50 Classic All Star Cartoons Vol 1

  • @Angryjon Was it from Burbank Video?

  • @sowisapigtobeexact2 I'm not sure. The one I had was from Anchor Bay. It had a green cover.

  • @Angryjon What number was the cartoon?

  • @sowisapigtobeexact2 According to wikibin, it's number 34. It's placed after Flat Heads (Three Stooges) but before The Mild West.

  • @Angryjon Was that what it was like on your tape?

  • @sowisapigtobeexact2 IDK, My tape broke years ago.

  • @Angryjon that's what it was!! thanks

  • and why is Sinbad in a viking longship??

  • Sinbad was around in the middle ages in the Arab World long before there were cannons and gunpowder ...wtf?

  • homophobic pirates we can see early on too

  • I miss this cartoon and other old cartoons I used to have so much, why did I give my old cartoons away?

  • yo ho de heidi ho. my moms name is heidi lol

  • I'll take this old stuff made with pure imagination any day over modern day Flash animation!

  • I AGREE! I think it's interesting that so often old animation gets comments about how the animators must have been on drugs. This shows the lack of imagination you're talking about.

  • Finally A person with a lot of sense, Class, and the correct words for classic stuff Such as this! Great comment. I agree totally!

  • I SO remember this

  • Ub Iwerks really doesn't get any where near as much recognition as he deserves

  • Amen. My mom brought us so many cartoons on VHS and we loved them till this day. His stuff is really good. I need to find it on DVD.

  • i know huh! there are these dochebags that read thse books etc. that think that disney created mickey when in reality ub did and disney mearly marketed him. he needs a statue of him next to disney in disneyland!

  • i love it

  • pirata gay... ta que feo y lo han visto en los años 30!

  • Go gay pirate! I demand he gets his own series.

  • popeye beat him at one point.

  • The old cartoons did a lot of things because they weren't bound by political correctness. There was more artistic freedom, and that is why they are still enjoyed. :)

  • Actually, this was one of the first Ub had to submit to the Hays office. Since the Hays Office was created in part to combat Betty Boop it really hurt the Fleischers...

  • Well if that's the case it's funny that the Hays office would have let something like the gay pirate slip by.

  • You could usually get innuendo (like this) to slip by, but if the censors knew what you were doing they stomped you flat.

  • Not really. The Hayes Code was much stricter than you might think. Screenwriters had to create their own "shorthand" to portray Gay characters who could pass by the literal-minded censors. Vito Russo wrote about that in his book, The Celluloid Closet.

  • Thanks for the information,

I'll be sure to check that book out.

  • Loved it!

Requesting Willie Whopper in "Reducing Creme" if you have it...

  • This cartoon has much in common with Popeye cartoons, including "Popeye Meets Sindbad the Sailor" and "Popeye and the Forty Theives", from a few years later; I suspect that Fleisher might have hired some people away from Iwerks.

  • the fleischer brothers were goin out of style by this time so iwerks actually hired some animators from them, thats why the girls walk kinda like betty boop and they boys kidna look like popeye...its al in the style i guess

  • OH MY GOD THANK YOU!

  • the gay pirate was a bit odd Ive never seen anything that even hinted at homosexuality from way back then.

  • holy crap...I havent seen this since I was a small brat..thanks for sharing!

  • A bald short sailor that smokes a corncob pipe. Guess who that sounds like. What was that homosexual character all about? Rather daring for the era

  • my first favorite video on youtube. jack sparrow and captain barbossa's childhood.

  • Thank you for uploading this!

  • AWSOME!!!
