"It's so strange when you're down And lying on the floor How you rise, shake you're head Get up and ask for more"
Yes, i realize that WAISAD is about divorce and it's not happy time for people, but i listen THIS song, when i have problems, when i get into trouble and i think that nobody cares about me. Only a few songs can calm down and cheer up like WAISAD. Thank you, Frida and Agnetha, Benny and Bjorn!
The Movie version was just the opposite of this song they used it when a couple found each other. this was written when Frida and Benny divorced each other.
This song has a hard edge to it, but the lyrics are pretty hard also, Compare Frida singing "Super Trooper" where her voice makes you melt. Yeah, Abba sure had a lot of range in their music. I love it all!
This is such a good song.Wish they had sung it live as well. There are many good songs like One Of Us and Gonna Sing You My Love Song that they didn't sing them live
Tsenio, they have sung Gonna Sing You my Love song in Eskilstuna. I have got that concert in my computer. About WAISAD and One of Us. They didn't perform in 1982, but nevertheless it is said that live version of these song don't exist. :(

They are not in the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame because they are not a rock group. They are Disco/Dance/Techno, they are absolutely fantastic but they arent a rock group.
Bjorn and Benny are much underrated as English lyricists. With this, and many of their later works, they wrote lyrics that surpassed lyrics by native English speakers.
So heartwarming and heartbreaking!!! I cry at this song because it is filled with the emotions of ABBA's split up. Seeing this video brings a lump to my throat!
This song was recorded after Benny and Frida has split up, so it was very profound for them as a group. i don't know if younger people realise this, but everyone was shocked at the time, i was only eight but to me they were like parents and i hated the whore who remarried Benny! they had a child together who i hated purely because frida and benny never hade a child together,
As a teenager I loved Abba like everyone did. Now that I am older I realize their magnitude and enormous talent. I wish they would have made more albums. They can do anything!
Frida looks fantastic on these ocean rocks. Her voice sounds like a cold christmas evening that happend a long time ago, with sad and happy memories. I love u Frida.
I was surprprised to know this song is actually about a dying relationship. I first heard it in the movie. I think it's one of the most beautiful sences. It worked well to change it like they did! Love ABBA.
thats because this song was originally written to herald Benny and Agnetha's divorce. Its all about how they feel at the end of their marriage, where in "mamma mia" its to celebrate marriage. They have changes the lyrics slightly and made it more loving for the film.
A different perspective: having heard this for the first time in the film, it came across as a warm love song between two people who had made their mistakes, hurt each other, gone their separate ways but come together again, wiser after lifes hard knocks. So I was shocked when I heard it here the pain and bitterness hit immediately, even before I read it was actually about a divorce. Amazing what a different rendition can do to the same song - but both versions absolutely spot on.
Possibly one of the best pop songs ever recorded. A perfect song-and anybody who ever had his/her heart broken can relate to it. Frida is a world class singer.
Ironic how a song about divorce is used as a wedding speech in the film. It's also uncanny how Abba's two songs about divorce be considered their greatest, but I am tempted to agree. Such emotion in Frida's voice, it's overwhelming. I enjoy the Spanish version "No hay a quien culpar" even more...
Couldn't agree more. Though as much as I loved the film, it sounded awkward to hear "when all is said and done" as a wedding speech. But if we stop to think about Donna and Sam getting married after all, at their age, it kind of gives some new perspective on the lyrics... I mean, it's just another possibility. I agree it's a song about divorce... but then again, not an "end-of-the-world" divorce, but a "new-life" "here-I-go-again" divorce. With no rush, this time, pretty much like Donna and Sam.
It's great! I saw it twice too and I'm waiting to buy it in DVD, I love it! When it finishes u have a positive attitude with a big smile and in the mood for dace, like a dancing queen ;o)
i can´t imagine how hard it must have been for the girl to sing `when all is said and done` and `the winner takes it all`...and i can´t imagine the suffering that went on there in the groups last few days...i think it´s so sad they broke up like that..always will love abba!! <3
Yeah it is. Hard to think of imagine. That is why you hear and see the pain. Mainly the hurt from Agnetha in Winner Takes it all. You can hear the hurt and sadness in Anni-Frid's voice in this track.
I watched an interview with Benny and Bjorn. Bjorn said it was hard but when the group split up they were not going to split for a long time. I laughed cause they have been split for 25 years.
How come Frida has long hair in this video, yet it was during the time when she went for that punk style as seen in the preceding single to this, One of Us?
Very shortly after this video Frida had her hair cut and right after that they shot the video for Head over Heals. As for Bjorn's beard l don't know it looks as though he was trying for a new look.

On the other hand, it is the director who tells the group how to act in a video. Each take might have to be tried many times to get it right. It's not like they were thinking 'Oh darn, so we're all divorced now and now we have to make this damn video, what a nuisance'. If it's so difficult, why bother at all? No, this is more like a deliberate style and image they were aiming at.
Bjorn asked Frida if she could do this song knowing it was about her divorse from Benny. She accepted for the well fare of the group. Their songs inspired by life's journeys for all of them. Thats why ABBA is in revival.
I bet they deeply regret not releasing this as a single in Europe. It's got Top 3 written all over it and could well have become their 10th no.1 in Britain.
If I were A Critic i would have to say that ABBA sang all their best songs as they were breaking up. I cant imagine how they stayed together so long with the divorces and all, I cant imagine the suffering that went on in the groups last days.
Your right, you can hear the pain Frida's voice in this song the same as Agentha singing "The winner takes it all" you can see and hear the pain from both songs.

I have considered myself an ABBA fan for most of my 3 decades of life. And on that note, I have never heard this song before. WOW!!!! This is great!! I always thought "The Winner Takes It All" was an almost melancholy swan song for the group, but this is one is so much more upbeat. Almost optomistic, like "yes, we're drifting apart, but one day, who knows". I can't believe I never heard this until now. Truly a hidden gem. Thank you for this post.

Frida at her best. One of the true gems in ABBA repertory. Really strong lyrics and melody, and Frida's voice catched all the sadness of it with power and sheer expression.
no you could have a frida song but you can`t beat a Abba song when they are all sing or contributing like Waterloo or Ring Ring or so long(i expect you get it now)
Sad the irony that ABBA wanted (and still want) privacy so much, but have to live with the knowlwdge that they represent the link between life and music to so many people around the world. I really can't imagine a world of music without ABBA.
you can really feel the sadness and remorse in ABBA's songs when they started to end, they even refused a billion dollar offer to reform, all these songs were written from emotion, not money
Thank you, I could not have said it better myself! There are people who say their crazy for turning down that kind of money, but there's the old saying: Go out on top, or just go! They did it on their terms and I applaud their decision! Thanks, Jim~
There's supposed to be an actual released early version of this video using another longer edit of the song. But it was quickly pulled and re-edited with the version that ended up on the Visitors album. This video was filmed before the album was finished and then One Of Us was released as the 1st single instead.
As a U.S.single it peaked at #27 out doing MAMMA MIA,SUPER TROUPER,CHIQUITITA,LAY ALL YOUR LOVE ON ME. I DO,I DO AND HONEY,HONEY also did very well on the U.S. charts also doing better than the 4 singles i mentioned
my favorite song in the world... it's just so beautiful... so many levels of meaning... like thankyou for the music... except better, deeper, prettier
Hey, I wrote that a while back when I was reading all about ABBA and clearly got my wires crossed. I know the last 2 singles, 'The Day Before you Came' and 'Under Attack'. Two of my favourites :-) Thanks!
Frida's hair looks so much better here..I don't know why she gone with that Olivia Newton-John circa 1982 hairct...I thought this was Frida's better hair days and that's saying something.
I believe this song was played at the end of HBO'S INSIDE THE NFL when sandiego beat miami in the greatest football game ever played! Does anyone remember that?
"It's so strange when you're down And lying on the floor How you rise, shake you're head Get up and ask for more"

Does anyone know where the scene was filmed with her walking and looking out on the water? Was it in Sweden?

should be "When all is SAD and done" since this was probably when they decided to split up. ABBA was and probably is the best group ever.

This was one of their last songs. It should have been their last but alas Thank you for the music was.

"Thank you for the Music" was recorded long before, though. It was only released as a single very late.
This has to be one of the very best, last or not!
Thanks for posting, tarantomessina!

It was the last ABBA single to hit the top forty in the United States. Awesome song anyway!

Hey! And yes this was the last ever recorded song.
Silverslayer1190 4 years ago
No, they recorded and released two singles in 1982. This one was made in 1981.

Does anyone remember that?
ruhrho 4 years ago
That's very very sad. Considering this song was written for Anni-frid and Benny's divorce.
