  • I were an english major too!

  • Ya know, ive lived in texas so long im constantly tired of it --- till i hear this song. And it makes me love the place so much.

  • If you don't like Robbie King... you're not a Texan.

  • Hot day in the Hill Country, but some REK and a cold Shiner on the porch sure help.

  • You can take the boy out of Texas, but you can never take Texas out of the boy. I had some good times in College Station just around the corner from Robert Earl's old stomping grounds. Hail to the Lone Star State!

  • You can take the boy out of Texas, but you can never take Texas out of the boy. I had some good times in College Station just around the corner from Robert Earl's old stomping grounds. Hail to the Long Star State!

  • this song is priceless, long live Texas

  • 100k views and this vid has been on youtube for 3.5 years. there is a link to the right of a guy living in a store window display, 4 mil views...been up since january. How the hell did the world get this jacked up?

  • moved from tx. to pa. 7 yrs. ago. Just miss tx.

  • Does anyone if this particular version is available to buy online, or if it's on any of albums? I just love this version, what with the Aggie jokes, and talk about Jack Boyett.

  • @Blademaster865 its available on itunes off the album"The live album"

  • Sittin on the porch drinkin moonshine all is good god bless Robert Earl Keen. :)

  • I named my dog Jack Boyett. He is one laid back dog!

  • you sir, are my hero.

  • I used to have the live version where he talks about the house he a Lyle shared on Church St and old Jack coming and yelling at him to come help with the cows.

  • Robert Earl ! The only thing I don't like about Robert Earl is that his an Aggie but thats all!

  • he would roll down the window just enough so none the air from the air conditioning would escape.

  • I am from 'Bama but I tell you what fellas this song is a CLASSIC. I love some REK, Lyle Lovett, the old Pat Green, Creager, etc. I can sitout on my back porch and grill then drink beer listen to these guys and passout. These guys need to come play in Tuscaloosa at Bama. God bless them! Pure soul and country. Not nashville lyrics. Not even close

  • yeah i'm in Germany right now and i never knew i could miss Texas with such fury. Thank you for taking me home for a lil while. That lone star shines in my heart daily, and i long for her constantly, when i'm not drinking beer, then i'm right there with her.

  • 25ct tip? Did she forget to refill your tea?

  • He was in college.

  • He was in college. and Jack only gave him $2.00 for the whole day!

  • ohhh weeee boy @wdchefdave56 iv liven in singapore, agrgintina and an island called trinidad...man im only 14 and i know yall all think im just a kid, and i am but shoot im well boren and raised a texacan! :D (i hope some ppl get that ;) lol) and i do think the farther from that wonderfull place, the more u wanna get back :)

  • I've worked in Australia, Ireland, and Alaska... but, I live in Texas.

The further you get from her... the more you just wanna go back home... to Texas!

  • Great song. REK is a great singer songwriter. Wish he came to NC more often.

  • REK is the real deal....don't even get me started on Lady Antebellum! A few good artists like Jamey Johnson and Zac Brown are staying true to real country music, thank goodness for them.

  • @carolellen1 Zac brown is a pussy, not country.

  • Anybody know what song he talks about being at the Texas World Speedway? He opens for Willie and his license plate is announced over the intercom that a car is burning in the parking lot, he recognizes that as his car and later his date leaves him for another?

  • @bh1gibb I remember the story but i can't remember the song. I know it was on one of his live albums. I remember he talked about taking a girl with him and she got a ride back with someone else.

  • @mindeloman I knew I wasn't the only one. Not one of my buddies or their girlfriends knew what I was saying. I worked in B/CS from 1984-1993. Loved Northgate. Duddleys,Dixie Chicken--and grew to appreciate good ole Texas Country.(from NE, now). REK and Lyle Lovett were just out the back door of Duddley's on Church St. and never knew it. A good friend of mine there at the time was dating Lisa Boyett. Jack Boyett was her grandfather. "Front Porch Song".

----It's on the "Intro" to his live Versio

  • @bh1gibb He sings The Road Goes on Forever after that story. I love that story!

  • I agree that this is truly country music; I don't even listen to the "new" artists. This Old Porch brings back so many memories. Lyle Lovett's version also has some good old time pictures. Thanks for this video.

  • God I love living in Texas

  • real texas country and music, not the watered down kind

  • robert earl keen is my boy, TEXAS A&M!!!

  • People who are new to REK take notice. This is what good country music sounds like. Shun the over produced Nashville crap with pretty faces and hair. God bless Robert Earl Keen for remaining true and keeping honest country music availible after the Rascal Flatts and Carrie Underwood types are long gone.

  • "Robert Keen.....Robert Keen. Can you come help me for a minute?" "Pimento chesse sandwiches....yum. yum."

  • Great Version of this song!

  • Why doesn't REK play NYC?

  • Interesting, reminds me a lot of Dylan. :p

  • Dang i forgot how good this song was!!

  • try Trent Wagler and the Steel Wheels. i dont think they're very big yet, but really amazing :)

  • goodstuff guys thanks for the feedback

  • Look up adam carroll, I-Tunes has quite a few albums, youtube doesnt have enough posts to do him justice but a very quality singer/harp player ect..

  • Benny - Look up Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark, Joe Ely, or Django Walker.

  • benny - if your into songwriters check out james mcmurty

  • benny - I would suggest Jerry Jeff Walker and Todd Snider as well. Their not Texans but they are good.

As well as old Pat Green before he went Nashville.

  • ok everybody you all seem like a bunch of southerners and i know morrow i know REK i know mr lovvett but hook a Canadian blue grass lover up with some more of ur finest?

  • OMG you got to hear the Greatest of all Texas Folk Songwriters

    Guy Clark

    Towns VanZant (RIP)

ohh and of course you got to hear Tom Waits

  • @1329benny1329 lol I am not a southerner, the most south I've been is Tuscon, AZ. :)

  • Brings a tear to my eye. Gig'em Robert Earl & Lyle.

  • One of my friends brought his guitar to class and I ended up playing this song and singing it to half the class, everyone enjoyed it!

  • REK is an amazing songwriter. REK, thanks for not turning-over for Nashville. Who need s Nashiville, when there is Central,TX....True&Tride REK, Morrrow,Volkert,Lovett, and Dayton

  • Almost want's me to be An Aggie!

  • Old Jack Boyett is gone.

The drive in screen burned down.

But Friday night is still hot at Northgate.

Students still give blood then go get a burger and a pitcher of beer between classes.....what a buzz!

I remember the beer & pickin' sessions with you and Rooster (Lyle Lovett).

    You've done us all proud.

    Gig 'em

Craig the Shark (class of '80-89 )

  • If I could write just one song, it would sound a lot like this one.

  • This symbolizes everything that is good and perfect in Texas. I have listened to this 3 times in a row now... many more to come. I want to be back in Texas so bad sitting on a front porch in Brenham Texas.

    Thanks for posting, Beau FTACo'05

  • Holy crap. ATM. A college in Texas. Those filthy aggies...

  • wow TAM

  • Texas a&m (agricultural & mechanical) alumni is an aggie.

  • Thanks for explanation. Somewhere in my head I knew that.

  • are you serious, the Texas A&m Aggie's, it is one of the biggest schools in the nation(like 45000 studints)

  • Dang I miss it...

    God Blessed Texas!

  • Man this song always makes me cry...I miss Texas! Some day I'll make my way back to the Hill Country!

  • college station is not in the hill country.

  • Thanks for the geography lesson...I was making reference to the fact that I lived in the Hill Country while in Tx and I miss it. Texas is a big place and the song is relevant to more than just living in Aggie town. Peace~ Viva Tejas

  • Come on home, we are always here for you.

  • Oh, I miss College station so much!

  • I had a sweet girlfriend from Agua Dulce...God Bless Texas PS You know who you are, TS

  • Not from Texas. I'm from Nebraska. But I'll be goddamned if I don't got a porch just like that

  • Whoop!!! God Bless Texas

  • Right the fuck on man!

  • pimento cheese sandwitches lol that is Texas

  • Here recently I was doing some farming in the Philippines. I got so homesick that hearing this song gave me comfort. I would sit on my porch over there drink my San Miguel Pale beer and listen to it over and over again and just cry like a baby. The locals couldn't understand how much I missed Texas. Finally an old woman told me in Bisaya (there language) she said " I sure wish I could see this Texas you cry for" I told her if she could understand the song she could see the Texas. She smiled

  • thats badass man..

    viva la texas.

  • God Bless you Tripleg

  • Dude that made me tear up. Perfect comment.

  • @Tripleg100 that was the most beautiful story ive ever heard

  • Robert Earl Keen is one of the best songwriter's still plugging away these days! Keep it up REK!
