I LOVE Jim Varney, I have all of his movies, I've seen all of them, I've never seen Jim Varney in my whole life, I wish I could've seen him before he died, he died when I was 2 years old, to be exact on the date of his death it is 2-10-00, I wish he was still alive, and when he died, he was only 51 years old, he should've lived 20-30 more years than that, but since he smoked cigarettes constantly, which gave him lung cancer, it caused his death, I wish tobacco didn't exist and never will

I've just read Jim's transcript interviews on his life & his battle with cancer. I've been crying 4 10 minutes. Poor Jim. How awful 4 him 2 have 2 go thru that. The cancer was also in his brain. I guess I'm so sad because, in some way, I can relate to what he went thru. I was battling a chronic illness at the time as well. I don't have cancer but my illness is much like it because it's comes & goes & is treated with the same meds as cancer. Last year, I found that I had stopped responding 2 meds

Jim was one of my favorites. I remember seeing him on Tom T. Hall's TV show back in the '80's (before the Ernest character) and thought then what a true talent he was. IMO he never got the credit he deserved. God took him from us too soon.

A heavy life-long smoker, Varney contracted lung cancer and died on February 10, 2000 in White House, Tennessee, a suburb of Nashville. He was 50 years old. Hope that helps.

I didn't find out Mr. Varney Had passed away until a year ago. He is my favorite actor and became a fan watching his go to camp film in my after school program way back. He was the first actor to make me laugh and cry. I read after he passed that he volunteered to visit terminal children as their last wish; something I never new. He and Jim were good friends and in an interview for Toy Story 3 he said that Jim was really a nice guy and that he'd rather have Jim here then voicing Slinky Dog. You shouldn't judge someone like that.

Yep, Jim made a lot of kids smile, I was one of them. Here I am now at 46, with a 13 year old son thinking holy shit, it's really been 10 years.
Down here in TX he was know for the Braums commercials before he went on to do the Ernest movies. Wish I could've met the guy.

Thanks for the vid. We went to the same high school, but he was before me. I had Thelma Beeler as a teacher who gave him the impetus to become an actor. I actually moved to TN he lived just north of me 5 miles. great guy, smoking got him, but who is perfect in this world!

Like you I also wanted to meet him and all of my kids loved him and they know how big a fan I was of him. At least I can watch these videos and the movies and remember him We all lost a treasure. Jim was one of my favorites. I remember seeing him on Tom T. Hall's TV show back in the '80's (before the Ernest character) and thought then what a true talent he was. IMO he never got the credit he deserved. God took him from us too soon.

I use to watch all his movies and there great. I guess I better quit smoking, I am only 39, but now I see what it can really do to you. NOt good. I will try to quit, its hard but I am working on it.

A heavy life-long smoker, Varney contracted lung cancer and died on February 10, 2000 in White House, Tennessee, a suburb of Nashville. He was 50 years old. Hope that helps.

My Exbrother in law done some stage stuff with him many many years ago at the Pioneer house in Danville Ky. I remember he doing Dairy Mart commercials around here as Ernest and the whole "Ya know what I mean Vern" days. I thknk his last movie was Daddy and Them which is a Billy Bob Thorton movie that's really good!

I didn't find out Mr. Varney Had passed away until a year ago. He is my favorite actor and became a fan watching his go to camp film in my after school program way back. He was the first actor to make me laugh and cry. I read after he passed that he volunteered to visit terminal children as their last wish; something I never new. The man is a actor in the truest sense of the word. God bless you Mr Varney May you be worthy of all his graces and promises.
