i have a 800 watt amp with just one sub and a 250 watt power supply will the power supply burn and another ? can i put all my yellows togther for + and all me blacks for -
@jrmartine915 yes it will work. it will not be as loud as it could be though. and yes, its also better to combine the different power rails (yellows) and will give you more power, but is not needed for the grounds.
Sorry I must be a noob, when you say "create a jumper on the amplifier. Connect the remote wire to the +12v power wire", what is the "jumper" and what is the "remote wire" ?
First time noob (I have 1200 w amp running 2 x 4.5inch splits with 2 6x9's)
hey man ive got a problem, i have the same setup prob different speakers, ive got an 800w sub connected through a 150w amp then to a power supply, and it powers up and everything but ive tryed to use one black wire and the red light is still on, then i switch to the other black wire and its still red, i need some help :(
Computer power supplys are more powerful then you think they are. They put out 11-16 volts and you can get really nice ones that are capable of 1000 watts. my dad has a two redundent powersupplys that push out 1500 watts a peice for his Blade servers. Goody's Computer Support! hit me up if u need Computer Repairs!
yes it will work. If you try to turn the amp up too loud, the PSU may temporarily shut off. Also, it will sound horribly distorted at high volumes. But the bottom line is, yes, it will "work".
@BanControl you will probably need to use a couple PSU's to make it sound better and to keep it from shutting off. you will need about 84 amps of power to make it sound/work at a normal rate
You mean the home surround sound for like dvd players and stuff? if so then you get the cable thats red and white to a 3.5mm jack. go into an electronics store, they will know what you need. Hope this helped.
@FoShizzleMaWizzle all u need is a dj amp and some cables a regular receiver and an ipod wire to connect to the receiver and thont put it in to the headphone jack of the computer and it should wor that how i got mine setup
I have 250w pc supply it gives 30A, Im not sure if it gives full12v daw, I tryed to connect it to a 400w amp but every time i connect the power cables the amp turns on and after 3 sec it turns off, can i get any help ?
well, test different wires. you could be trying to feed it a 5volt or even .3volt wire. so the color might not be the same. try the yellow then try the red and so forth. and make sure its one of the main power rails and not the one that plugs into the motherboard.
250w is to small for a 400w amp, i have a 450w amp and was using a 450w psu which i fucked up, so used a 400w psu and it blew after about a week of use. try and match the psu to the amp wattage or higher. and make sure you have the yellow wires connected there 12 volts which is what you need. red wires are 6 volts.
Hey man,............Now I know,.........My 250w psu worked with 400w amp but I couldn't put the volume all the way,.....specially when I wanted to pump the bass,...............So 2 days ago I disconnected the psu and tried to install it back in my pc,......well it fucked up,.......

What if you give the amp more than it needs will it hurt the amp?
gta4isthebomb 9 months ago
@gta4isthebomb no the amp will only take what it needs. its actually better if the power supply can produce more power than the amp demands.

Is this too risky for a 1000W RMS amp?

@RustyNailMediaInc lol might be but i doubt it, the power supplies have all sorts of different "protections"

P.S. what type of PSU would you recommend?
DJPaulFreeman 1 year ago
The jumper is what it's called when you connect the remote wire to the +12v power.
for 1200 watts you need a pretty nice PSU. Should be at least 1200 watts obviously. But, if you aren't running subs you should be fine with 500 watts.

what psu should i use for 125 watt amp
93DARIAN 2 years ago
a 125 watt PSU, which is pretty much any PSU you can find. The smallest one I've seen was about 280 watts which is plenty for a 125 watt amp.

probably the amp. I assume by "black wire" you are referring to the jumper? It should always go from "Remote turn-on" to +12v power.

Depending on what your trying to do, you probably should buy a home theater system amp.
SARGENTSCRUFY 2 years ago
you can use a standard home receiver/amplifier. or you can get a hefty PSU with a car audio amp.
