......Wow, that is the very exact intro to "A Very Calculating Snake" by the Demonstration. Look it up if you don't believe me. That's kind of spooky.....I hope they got permission to do that.
@Omega1874 He told me that there are way more important things in his life than huntin those idiots whom i wonder if they sold a lots of records anyway, the demonstration aint a big band whatsoever.
@ihaveallseeingeyes I don't think they've sold much. They're a small hardcore band out of North Carolina so it's doubtful. I have their record which is actually pretty good, but they're still just small time.
One of my favorite guitarists, I was sad to hear he left music. The solo from "The Iron Force" is really memorable and still one of my all time favorites.
Anyone who has the guitar pro file for this? can't find it on the nocturnal rites page anymore and i desperately need it, PM you you have it and would like to share!
just have to say that i live in the same town as nils, met him once at the pub and had a few beers with him, not only is he a awsome guitar player, he is also a super cool dude. One of the nicest you will ever meet =)
It's not that hard to believe for me. I used to be a professional illustrator and art was my life for the first 30 years of it, but I got burnt out/disillusioned and now I get creative on my own terms and it's no longer a job. Perhaps he was feeling burnt out or just wanted to devote time to other pursuits.
It's not that surprising, just it's unfortunate for those that liked hearing him play. Hopefully, he'll be back when he's ready.
He is picking a note with his middle finger but on the b and e strings, not just e.
No idea about the amp he uses. I don't pay attention to gear much. I know Allan Holdsworth plays through Yamaha Magicstomps these days, and that Jimi used to play Strats. *shrug* I never met a guitar I didn't like, to be honest.
Honestly guys it's the Caparison guitars! I could barely play the 'Friends' theme tune on my little squire strat, then I got one of these and I was flying! I pulled off the 'For the love of god' solo!!! :D (Obviously kidding... This guy is sick!)
I don't get this... when I saw NR opening for Nightwish in sweden a few years back all I could think of was how completely tone deaf the guitarist was, every solo he just shredded maniacally off key and tempo and just acted like a 13 year old Hammet-wannabe. But in this video he's amazing, I'm seriously confused :S It's really like night and day...
Nah, even with bad monitoring you should be able to find your way at least a bit on the fretboard. It is harder than it would seem though but it's not THAT hard, especially not if you have this guy's level of skill.
Holy-moly...Nils is AMAZING. I came to know this cat through the band Nocturnal Rites (own the entire catalogue). What can I say? I mean, Nils has it all: technique, speed, phrasing, finesse, style, feel...everything. I could watch him play for hours. Seriously.
There is a TONNE of talent on display here, folks. This is what happens when talent meets hard work.
They're on the Nocturnal Rites webpage from what I know :)
I'd love to get a perfect quality MP3 of this song, it's a brilliant piece of metal. Gotta love the melody and the smoothness of it, I wish more metal guitarists would play like this, because there's too many of them just focusing on playing as fast as possible.
I am not aware of any backing track being available, unless you contact Mr Norberg, I guess. I just scanned the tabs for the song, but I'm not sure which is the best method of showing them. This magazine isn't readily available outside of Japan so I guess it's ok... to put them on the net... Right?
Me and Nils was jamming this very tune before we went on stage. I tried to follow, freakin' impossible stuff. He is a great player, a really cool guy to chat with. He hasn't got that diva style many other guitarist unfortunatly have got. A really laid back person.
Indeed a great tune by Nils, and quite tricky to tab out (both me and Nils worked on the tabs for this one). One thing to point out about NIls is that no matter how well you think he plays with Noc, or here, it is only the top of the iceberg :) When we sit down with a cold one here in Umeå, and jam, he pulls out a lot of cool stuff out of the bag that does not fit into the Noc sound. Great guitarist, great musician, great friend.
This song is a blast to play! He is detuned by a half step and you don't need to use the 7th string so you can learn the whole thing on any guitar. If anyone has a short spot they can't figure out I could help, but PLEASE try on your own to figure it out at first because I don't want to have to show how to play every note in the song!
wow, the amount of control this guy has is amazing. he could probably do that whole thing again with his eyes closed. great playing, I doubt he is getting the recognition he and NR deserve.
This is NOT your average joe, this guy plays for Nocturnal Rites on Century Media records a fairly large but unrecognized band.:) He's so smooth and has such technique its awesome.
In the first bar there are some open string notes which give the illusion of not fingering notes that are played.
This is Nils Norberg from a band called Nocturnal Rites and it is not me, the poster of the video, playing. Just wanted to clarify that. If you like what you see here, then check out his band and stuff on the internet.
to bezza i didn't see any notes that he didn't play, think he may be hammering on, he's not picking the notes but still gets the sound out of them in other words, and the drum beat is coming from a machine thats off screen
*Basically- There seem to be some notes you are not playing but the sound is there, so in the song are there 2 guitars? Or did you just miss some notes out (That is what i meant by my 1st question.. dont know why i wrote that...)
The demonstration did a great song from the intro :)
