Looking back at when this first aired in 2007, comparing to now, Sharpton has really been very lazy lately in protesting against hip-hop. what imus did was wrong, but for sharpton to stage a protest, like imus had torn the black community apart and caused so much turmoil among an entire race is just wrong. much of the problem with racism is we look at black and white people as different people so when one race says one thing about the other, whether or not its a racist remark, its viewed as racist. if we look at each other equally, this wouldnt be nearly as much of a problem.

I was fine with Imus getting fired. However, as I recall, nobody in the black community gave a damn about all the charity work Imus did, like his ranch for kids with cancer. I therefore find it hypocritical that many defenders of Obama's pastor want to talk about how the pastor's yrs of charitable work somehow lessen the importance of the his racist and anti-american remarks.

Al Sharpton and others spoke up because no one else did. He takes on the cases that many of us don't look at and or pay attention to. He has gone after Boondocks (Sony Entertainment) and music labels that have rappers that use the language that Imus used. He's not alone. Mike Tyson is protested when he tries to get a boxing license by womens' groups & Gloria Allred was right there to say he shouldn't get one in Vegas. There were protests when Kobe Bryant played in Denver about his rape trial.

Imus made a statement that was offensive against young women who were simply trying to represent their school. It was a racist statement and he should have been taken to task for those words. Should he have apologized, yes. Suspended, yes. Fired I'm not so certain, but he was. He found another job and now we must forgive. If he attacks every one with his racial comedy, he has now learned that you do so at your own peril and that freedom of speech does have limits.
