The design was confimed to be inspired by Godmars, but everything else is different to my knowledge. Ironically though, the creators of Gobots are what got Orbots canceled and not the Creators of Godmars. >.>

Thats funny. I didn´t grow up in the 80s but i´ve seen all cartoons of that time. Portuguese television passed many 80s cartoons in the 90s. I was lucky to see them all when i was a kid.

That's because it is... the company that did it was a japanese company that did anime for the US in the 1980's and sold it to the US under a "Cartoon" slogan. TMS I think it was called.

I totally agree with this statement. 80's cartoon themes really get you excited for the show! Remember the intros to BIONIC SIX, VISIONARIES, M.A.S.K., SPIRAL ZONE, etc? Those beginnings really got me pumped! Even "cute" cartoons had intros that made me excited: THE LITTLES, BEVERLY HILLS TEENS, etc. Nowadays kid's shows don't have great beginnings. I think MIGHTY MORPHIN' POWER RANGERS was the last good one.

Wow I can't believe that you remember beverly hills teens. And I totally agree with you on How the theme music for cartoons back then used to get you pumped to watch the show. JAYCE AND THE WHEELED WARRIORS, GALAXY RANGERS, SILVERHAWKS, THUNDERCATS etc. Heck even ROBOTECH's theme was good. But the 90's had some good themes too. not as much as the 80's though. For example: MONSTER RANCHER, GI JOE in the early 90's.

Agreed! I know someday I'm gonna have a family of my own, someday I'll be getting up early to watch the toons with jr. or sis and I just hope someone out there brings back cool stuff like this or Thundercats or Robotech. Kids need adventure stories and heroes not goofy talking animals!

That's brings back many memories. I have about 1000 vcr tapes from the 70's up to present. Most ARE NOT LABELED!! How great!! But if it had a cute cartoon girl on it, I recorded it. I must have them all. From Grandizer to Kimba to Prince Planet to Shazzan(the genie) to Botsmaster with that cutie Blitzy...Mighty Orbot had Bou and Boo, and the cutiest redhead Ohno.

The theme's very beginning, no doubt, was inspired by Getter Robo.

I was very curious by your statement. I had never heard of GETTER ROBO so I researched it on the Wiki and found the show's openning on YouTube. Yes, you are correct. Both the Orbot's theme and the Getter theme start off very similarly. Were the Orbot's composers inspired by the Getter song? I guess we'll never know.

You could tell back then that it wasn't JUST an ordinary anime show. Stuff/people in the first episode had 2 level shadowing and shines on it. Hand drawn 3D all over the place. Computer 3D animation was at its infancy and was strictly confined to supercomputers back then.

Good show, bad time slot ABC placed it in (8:00 CST). The action packed cartoon couldn't defeat the soft forces of Muppet Babies (CBS) & Smurfs (NBC).

My favorite was Crunch (voiced by Don Messick), who would always want to eat the show!

Thundercats was animated by Pacific Corporation (I don't remember the name), but TMS animated Mighty Orbots, Bionic Six and Galaxy Rangers.

The very first american produced cartoon animated in asia, japan I think. Directed by Osamu Desaki. Later almost all of american cartoon started to be animated overseas in asia.
