both this and the "because the night" solo by nils were outstanding on this tour - made your jaw drop and your arms raise in exultation - a fantastic complement to bruce's work and a raw talent all his own!
Sorry, Nils not only overdoes this but that harmonic stuff gets annoying after 15 seconds. I wish he would cut some straight raw stuff as opposed to this over processed noise. I like to hear Bruce play lead - it's simpler, more emotional, and definitely an extension of his voice.
@tynebar You know, that's uncalled for! I used to watch Nils play in GRIN in Washington D.C. (he's from the same neighborhood as I am, just I'm much younger). I'd sneak in the back- matter of fact did the same when nobody heard of Bruce before. You could have nicely said he took up slide. We ALL don't have our own PC you know. Nils can play piano so beautifully it makes you weep! He could have been a gymnast, writer, musician- maybe successful in 10 fields but we're lucky he chose music!!!
I'm not crazy about Nil's saturated effects/tone, I know he can play but.... Check out the right way to solo on this tune, by Bruce himself --- go to Springsteen "Prove it All Night" Passaic.
@Dukabor Is this before or after they did Ghost of Tom Joad with Tom Morrello? I think he took that harmonic move from Morrello's solo on that song. That's cool, the best of the best trading moves.
@trapnextone hey trap....just saw the Morrello thing cause I bought the Hall of Fame DVD's....man Morrello KILLS....I don't know which came first....Nils or Tommy but damn...it's all fucking good....I got to give a thumbs up to Tommy though...KILLER fucking lead...
@trapnextone Lol...nils does this thing for ages...so its the other way around...Nils uses this kind of setup for his solos all the time...so dont think this is morellos style...
OMG!! This version almost makes me want to go out & join scientology!.. have the motherships come back to collect us yet? Sorry Nils, not your best performance here.

Right up there with masters like Frank Zappa, Jeff Beck, Allan Holdsworth, and Richard Thompson.

I love it when guitarists just let rip on a whammy pedal and go nuts. Look at Nils, he looks like a kid in a toy shop =)
