so far with ease of high notes, and full bodied sound other than bjorling, kunde comes in as close behind pavarotti as anyone truly can, he is VERY underrated as tenors go. kunde is exceptional. kunde, pavarotti and bjorling have roughly the same size of instrument and can be compared, where you cant compare Blake or Florez, as they both have smaller voices. I am a big fan of blake but his high notes are no easier than Kundes. florez has good technique but tone wise is uninteresting.

This guy is fabulous but there´s no point and NO SENSE in saying that Blake´s high C´s aren´t easier than this guy. It´s completely ridiculous when everybody knows that for Blake singing a high C or D is like eating a banana.

i wasnt saying that blakes high C's were any harder either i was replying to another person who was trying to compare florez with this Kunde who aren't comparable voices imo. i was saying that Florez and Blake could be considered comparable, where kunde would be more comparable with pavarotti and bjorling in size of instrument. Blake is one of my favorite coloratura tenors of all time. any good tenor will have easy high Cs or they wont sound good period.

Voice is ordinary, a bit wobbly, musically fine but still not on the level of a Bjorling, Gigli, Thill,Crooks or Di Lugo High notes are not indicative of great singing, it is quality that counts

Kunde is very underrated in my opinion. He is extremely good technically in my opinion. He just doesn't have a God-given unique and glorious voice. He's an artists in the truest sense. In terms of the competition, my vote is for Pavarotti. Nobody has gotten even close to his ease of delivery, clarity and explosiveness of the Top Cs. I'd rank Florez as #2. Impeccable technique. It's just that voice itself is leggiero and doesn't provide the full satisfaction (not his fault, of course).

Wobble? There's definitely not a wobble in his voice at any point. The sound might be a bit undervoiced at times or strident at the top, but no wobble.

This is of course a specialty piece not written for mainstream tenors. Mainstream means Cavaradossi. It is pitched nearly a major third higher than most other tenor parts. Foe example, Edgardo is almost always transposed today. Pavarotti was expected to take Tonio down but found in rehearsal he could do it in key. Later of course he couldn't. This role is for the true high note tenor and Kunde is about as good as it gets. Socko.

Great job. The tenors who excel in this aria are interactive with the other soldiers; can't just stand isolated and wait for the high C's. He does it well, sings the WHOLE aria and has fun.
