  • Guess what? The original Rondo of Blood is in!Now doesn't that kick ass!!We went from having no Rondo of Blood to having it non-official,to having it as a remake,to just...having it.It took us a long way to get there, but this finaly got it right. If you want to play Rondo of Blood, buy this game, then search how to unlock Rondo of Blood!!!

  • I'd rather play it on the PC Engine (TurboGrafx 16), and personally, I prefer the more linear-style Castlevania games.

  • @Watts527 nope, it's a shitty port, the graphics look terrible compared with the 2d original ones, the gameplay is INFERIOR . It's just a cheap port.

  • The ds games are the "Metroidvania" type of games, they are different. if you played the oldschool ones first, you would have loved the game

  • Why does everyone complain about the difficulty of DXC? If they played Castlevania, Castlevania III, Bloodlines or Circle of the Moon, then they would know the definition of difficulty.

  • man, dracula x chronicles in NOT 16 bit! END OF STORY

  • @MrUltiblood he is talking about the original the pc engine one which is 16 bit this is the same game with upgraded graphics persionally i think this game looks MUCH better in 2d but its ok you can unlock the 2d version in this game as well

  • @reesercliff ok

  • you dont need to finish the game to play symphony of the night you just need to colloect the hidden item thing.

  • I KNOW bloodlines is 16 bit but the gameplay is MUCH MUCH better

  • @MrUltiblood I said dracula x is 16 bit

  • wow this really looks good and hard :/

  • 5 out of 10? You obviously couldn't handle the difficulty of an old-fashion Castlevania game. Because of playing the old NES titles as a kid, this game was a walk in the park for me. I can't tell you didn't realize that the difficulty was suppose to be a designer's choice.

  • personally, i think that the old castlevania bloodlines in MUCH better. Sure, its 16-bit, but you get so much more! I payed $2 for Dracula X and the gameplay is HORRIBLE! 2 directional whipping! In the 16-bit games you can whip 6 directions, or use a spear instead of the whip

  • @MrUltiblood Castlevania Dracula x is 16 bit

  • What did you expect is a retro castlevania game rebooted did you expect a cakewalk?!

  • @Horrorboyify where did u get that from avgn?

  • @link12817 I loved both oldschool castlevanias and castleroids, but I think that if I played, for example, SotN before bloodlines, I wouldn't like the latter as much. I understand the reviewer's position, but 5/10 is still pretty harsh.

  • @queenaldra you got that from avgn lol.

  • ave you played the original??? the DS oes all suck compaired to them, atleast this game looks and feels like a castlevania game (its not prfect but its good) the DS ones werent even like castlevania....some dracula castle coming out in japan, they already got godzilla............

  • @queenaldra I bet you don't even have a DS and you never played DoS/PoR/OoE

  • @TheNewLooter i had a DS but it got busted and im not wasting my money getting a new one....and i played all the DS games hoping to be inpressed by one of them, but no luck at all :(

  • @queenaldra FAIL to looks smart and a stupid opinion.AVGN never said that metroidvanias suck,he just said that he likes the oldschool ones more, and besides,EVERY 2d castlevania game is good!(except for original gameboy ones)

  • Umm, you don't have to beat the game to play the unlocked games, you only have to find them (Symphony - Level 2) and (Rondo - Level 4) then can play them right away.

  • 5 ??? you are retarded

  • I bought the game to play SotN, but when I found out that I had to play through 4 levels to get it, I was disappointed. Rondo of Blood's gameplay is very slow, it felt like I was walking through pudding.

So I unlocks SotN after much difficulty only to find that the devs of the game went the extra mile to change the voice actors and the scripts... WHAT THE FUCK?! The Opening dialogue between Richter and Dracula is an iconic moment, and the shit all over it. They made Alucard sound like a fag.

  • Definitely a... Different point of view... I can see the guy's point if you look from a different perspective, but what he considers to be bad things, I consider to be good things. So, I disagree, but I can understand why some people would think that way.

  • This guy's a dumbass... I don't think I have to say why.

  • After watching this the only thing that i can say is: Go try out Castlevania 2 on NES that game is the meaning of hard!

  • boring game.

  • Have you not played Dracula's Curse for the NES. That game's even harder than this.

  • Wow what a lame ass. Crying because it's not like the DS games, These games are the original classic and yes very hard version style of Castlevania. this guy had just discovered Cas even existed the first game he played was an easy modern style game and just bitches while going on about what he doesn't know.

  • @KeseArcade1p This is a sad sight, a person can't give a game a decent review without being accused of "whining" about something. A 5 out of 10 is not some kind of insult, it's average.

  • @videosfromderelix It's bullshit because the 5 is based on his lack of knowledge of Castlevania. Fuck off idiot.

  • @KeseArcade1p Can you prove this? No because it's your angry rants. Your an obsessed fan, you seriously need help.

  • you dont have to finish the game to get symphony of the night

  • This guy's an incompetent moron.

  • I have a feeling that had this guy tried playing something like, say, Castlevania III on the old NES...his head probably would have exploded.

The style of Castlevania that Rondo of Blood represented is vastly different from the "Metroidvania" style that he keeps bringing up. Both a great, but for different reasons. Trying to compare them to each other is just silly, even if a single UMD does have both styles on one unit.

  • he was given this game 5.0 only this game not sotn notice he show only this game i agree with him it piss me off i die so many time not bcuz i was suk but weel u heard wat he said

  • really 5 out of 10!?! sorry, i strongly disagree with you

  • I hated this remake of Rondo. The 3D graphics were ugly and overdone. The PSP and its blurry motion graphics and sluggish controls killed this classic (imo the best in the series). If you want the real thing, get it for the Wii Virtual Console.

  • My cousin actually hated this game at first, but when I explained to him about the old Castlevania games(Because the first Castlevania game he played was SOTN), He started to lke this game. If I were you, Gamesweasel, I consider giving this game a 8/10, due to the extras this game has.

  • @Retrogamer41 It is a good game, but only to a degree. Based on today's standards, however, it is nowhere near being as good as you suggest.

I love the Castlevania series, mind you. And I love a challenge. But when a game is ONLY challenging due to poor design, unresponsive gameplay mechanics, and a lead character that moves as slow as snails, I have to chalk that up as NOT FUN.

Thankfully, games have progressed since Rondo of Blood.

Again, great game - just not by today's standards.

  • @MeaRckY roflol :D yea the first few ones where hard as hell and i just care bout sotn

  • @MeaRckY damn that line was so epic i hate how my snses crashed XD all those neat games yea i heard the dialogue sucks but hey its the only chance for me to get sotn beside xbox the xbox one has loads of glitches mostly when i save once had lvl 98 and the save was suddenly gone

  • @MeaRckY sersly? ah but it still has sotn ^^ i was so pissed sotn was american only and this game is on sale in a shop for 5 bucks *dashes to store brb*

  • To best honest it's not that great. SOTN was amazing compared to this, especially with it's Richter. Static whip is annoying.

  • The mechanics are a little frustrating cuz you walk like nothing's up and such... I like the multiple path system for stages. There's the straightforward and the "secret" passage to another boss and a different stage in the game.

But the beauty of the game is Symphony of the Night. Basically the game's saying "Hey! We're giving you one of, if not THE, best Castlevania games in the series... but you have to play through a bad-ish game(by comparison, at least) first and find a secret item."

  • you didnt even review the game you just said it sucks lol you are a game WEASEL!

  • the limited movements and lack of controls makes this game realy dissapointing

  • Ok, it took me 2 years to beat the game because i had no idea you were suppose to find 2 other maid's besides maria. I beat Dracula with maria but have yet to beat him with Belmont. The one thing i hated about this is that Richter has a stupid ass backwards jump instead of a double jump and the jumps you half to make are ridiculous. This is a fun game though and the challenge is hard but you get use to it and find it very fun.

  • 5/10?? you just proved to everybody here that you're an idiot.

  • I agree that SOTN was an amazing game, but just because this game is more challenging and more old school doesn't mean it is bad. I really don't appreciate that you're bashing the older style of Castlevania when you yourself have claimed that you have not tried a Castlevania game before SOTN. Before you go making assumptions, know the facts first. Thanks.

  • this kid never played an amazing castlevania game,an oldschool castlevania game, sure metroidvanias are great ,theyre awesome, but they wouldnt exist if not for the BELMONTS and GAMES WHERE U ACTUALLY PLAY AS BELMONTS!sure u can unlock belmonts WHO ARE MAIN CHARACTERS OF CASTLEVANIAS,but thats only after u beat games...well sotn can be considered amazing too,the rest of it,for me,fuck it...and this kid should play a castlevania game, cuz hes not a skilled gamer like us who did play them...

  • this game sucked we need another symphony of the night

  • So if you get this game you also get sotn?

  • Wow, there's so many wrong things about this video that I won't even start listing them. Probably the worst review I've ever seen in my entire life.

  • This review is stupid. First, it's 3 games and even if you don't like Rondo, there's SotN, so the score of 5/10 doesn't make any sense. Read a fucking guide if you need to know how to unlock it, it takes about 2 minutes.

Also you basically bashed Rondo simply because it's too hard for you, and you completely missed the point that it's an upgraded RETRO game, and it's actually the easiest of the classic Castlevania games, and compared to most retro games it's very forgiving.

  • hehe i like ur voice!

  • GET OUT OF THE REVIEW BUSINESS!!! you clearly don't know what a good game plays like!

  • a review from someone that doesnt know the CV origins

i kinda agreed, the gameplay is too old for today standard, but the legacy and fun of it is much more worth that 5/10

i have this game i finish this game at 100% and yet i cant stop playing

that how wonderful the CV games are

  • I give this review a 5/10, very bias.

  • This review is the worst ive heard from gamesweasel.

But then again, he played the DS castlevania games, so i guess he got a different feel when he popped the UMD in.

All the old school castlevania players demand a revision of this review which makes justice to the name of the series.

Thank you for reading this :)

  • this is the best castlevania game I've ever played, sure SOTN is a masterpiece but I don't really like the RPG elements. the game is not very difficult once you unlock Maria she's way too overpowered IMO, that's the only thing I don't like about this game.

  • This was an awful review. Obviously this guy never played the original Castlevania games, and has no idea how this series started. Criticizing the game for not having SOTN unlocked at the start is stupid. It's supposed to be a reward.

  • Comment removed

  • old school castlevania at its finest here, and it got a 5/10. Try playing the NES CV games...it's equally as difficult. I just wish they hadn't redone the voice actors in SotN. Even though they were pretty cheesy, I wouldn't have had it any other way. Die Monster!

  • Add this to the play station 1 - 2 and 3 Pls !! thx

  • the difficulty in this game was sure hard but never frustrating. This game reminds my of my childhood when games provided a challenge instead of just hiding their gameplay shortcomings behind beautiful graphics. Most of todays games can even be completed by a blindfolded monkey without arms. This game was fun as hell.

  • this game has Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the night and you gave it a 5/10...whats wrong with you!? zangano...

  • WHAT A WHORE. You have SOTN and ROB 2 of the best Castlevania games! And you said that you have to beat the game to get SOTN get your facts right. And you gave it 5/10 ARE YOU BRAIN DEAD?!

  • This review doesn't do the game justice.

X Chronicles is a worthy torch-carrier for the series, a throwback to the days where 2D games relied on challenge as much as presentation. I for one want to see MORE games like this one, and Order of Ecclesia on the DS.

The addition of the original and the ground-breaking SotN are simply icing on the cake.

  • This is one hell of a great plattformer. You get tons of unlockable extras with it and you can play through each of the games with at least two different characters.

What more could you ask for? Since I bought the game three days ago I had to recharge my PSP five times.

It gets a 9/10 from me. It would have been 10, if they had included the exclusive Sega Saturn level in SotN and maybe some unlockable costumes for Richter and Maria in both Rondo games.

  • I give this game a motherfucking 10/10!

You motherfucking get SOTN with it !

  • In the manual it says Richter is 19 years old.

  • @DownWithLiquid

when the video shows the age 16+ years old, i think he meant the game age rating. not the character profile.

  • @towlierocks ok thanks

  • Rondo of blood saw the light of day in Japan !

  • Gamesweasel psp reviews are so unfair. They suck balls.

  • so in this game you get rondo of blood, castlevania 1, and symphony of night, is that correct?

  • wat a corny game

  • The SoTN item is on alternate level 3, U need the Axe to get it, and to the guy below me... Just download it, it's 14 bucks and fun. Warning: Frustrating as hell if you attempt multiple objectives other then win

  • I so want this game but nowdays its almost impossible to find a copy in stores.

  • I am playing it ATM.Shit is haaaaaaaaaaaaard! My first time playing Castlevania game.

  • Yeah it is. I get up to a werewolf and don't have enough health so I die in 1 or 2 hits. I wish that there was more health in this game. I got farther on GOW: Chains of Olympus on god difficulty than I did on this game.

  • OMG, the graphics are so UGLY. The 18 years old original looks better, even today.

Why do they make this king of things?

  • Those of you who are bashing this guy because he gave it a 5/10 need to stow it, because he was rating the PSP game itself, not SotN or the fact that it comes with this game. As for the complaints about the difficulty, they're all justified, because Castlevania 4 - which was made BEFORE Dracula X - was hard AND fair, but I guess that's why nobody likes it.

  • terrible review. u suck.

  • Have you ever played an older Castlevania game? It's a fact: All of the stage-by-stage Castlevania games have grueling difficulty. Just because you can't appreciate being given a challenge doesn't mean that the game sucks. It just means that you're one of those gamers who whine when a game is tough. They want the game to challenge them SOME, not a lot.

  • @Rasenganfan2Returns Silver Surfer.

  • @Rasenganfan2Returns he didn't say it sucked he pointed out that it is difficult and not in the well crafted kind of way like super Mario world but just in a broken mechanics kind of way. There's a difference between dying because you made a mistake and dying because a barrage of bats that you are not allowed to hit (because they are too low to hit while standing but too high to hit while crouching) knocks you to your death.

  • This guy is a noob. He gets frustrated about classic Castlevania style gameplay. Some of the new Castlevania titles are more easy and have "improved" controls, just for guys that him.

I'm more of a next gen gamer, but still I like the classic gameplay of the game - the "problems" he described help get the feel that only Castlevania can bring to you.

Plus I think that the improved graphics on the remade game bring-more to the old-next-gen expirience and make it even more worth while. (10/10)

  • 5/10!? what are u retarded dude u have SOTN with it and u give it a 5? boy stupidity to a new level here

  • 5/10?

you don't need to replay the whole game to get sotn, you just need to unlock the levels you didn't go to.

besides, if the game has symphony of the night on it, it's inexcusable to give it anything but a 10/10.

  • gay website. Only SotN deserves 10/10

  • The controls on this game are sticky and awkward. A game's difficulty should not be based on staggered controls, but rather elements in the levels.

  • 5/10? Rediculous. That reviewer seems jaded by the newer releases in the series.

  • "If you don't hold up while jumping on stairs, you'll fall through". No Shit! Old school Castlevania gameplay has always been that way. This guy obviously doesnt know much about the Castlevania frnachise.

  • Dude, alot of people havn't played it.. It certainly helped me, I've never played it.

  • Yeh, know what you mean bro. And I'm glad Castlevania still appeals to the newer generation of gamers. But it's a completely different case for a game reviewer. One who's supposedly well versed in games. Being such, he should be knowing these things prior to making reviews. If he's apparently not that well versed in the history of a particular game, I dont think he should be doing reviews.

  • true, but it can be annoying when you just forgot to press up, you fall all the way down. but, in its sequel, SOTN, there's no "press up" to "stick" to the stairs, so that way (press up to stick to stairs) isn't that "classical" isn't it?

  • Hmm, that wasnt my point bro. I was talking abt how the reviewer seemingly lacked knowledge abt the mechanics of Castlevania games, commenting abt the whole "press up thing" w/o mentioning that its been a staple in the series. Its as if he never palyed the previous games. And "classical"? Cmon dude, its been in the most classical CV games all the way back to CV 1. To cmpare it to SOTN is kinda off too cuz more than 70% of CV games have this "up" feature. Is SOTN the gold standard now?

  • In fairness though, the dude mentioned that he's a really late bloomer as far as Castlvania's concerned (starting at DS? Man thats late). Still though, its kinda bothersome that he complaiins about features that are already acceptable and part of CV history, only showing his lack of experience in the franchise. Its the equivalent of reviewing Mario Bros. 1 and saying, "This game isnt that good. Unless you eat a mushroom, you die after only one hit". Oh well.

  • i just started with this game. first castlevania game ive ever played. loved it. this guys an idiot.

  • Good right? Love the game too.

  • lol this looks really bad dont buy this get the one for ps1 its much better

  • the only reason i bought this game was to play the castlevania where your alucard i think i played that way more then that

  • This review makes a good point about the difficulty. This game is true to the old school style which can be too much for the pussy generation of gaming (meaning the players of today).

  • not pussy, just people who started gaming with call of duty 4.

  • I'm entitled to agree. Rondo of blood seems to be popular, because it's related to Symphony of the night. When compared to Super Castlvania 4, it's almost a step backwards in terms of control and level design.

  • love the reviews great job!!!!!!

  • why would u say average if a 5 out of ten is a f?

  • no, cause 50% is still a barely pass 4/10 would be a fail

  • If there are only 10 digits, then half would of course be a mediocre game. It's only rated with 1 being a horrible game, and 10 being an exceedingly awesome game. 5 is in the middle

  • Hes stupid

  • i love this game plus u dont have to beat anything to get sympothy of the night its hidden in the second or third lvl

  • The only thing I hate is the fixed jumps.

  • I'm dissapointed in this review.

    VETO Score 8/10

  • me too.

Well, he must be giving the review from his point of view. but from mine, you are right, it should be 8/10.

  • the game is awesome....aaaaand very hard xD

  • And thats exactly how I like it ;)

  • What do you mean with "never seen the light of day"?!

Rondo of Blood only came to the Pc engine in Japan and is a pretty valuable item these days.

I also wonder why there is no gameplay footage of the original in this review.

It's definately not a Multiplayer game.

You have to be a complete moron to think that a remake of a game that was originally released in 1993 on an 8/16bit hybrid cd system is even remotely similar to an original DS game.

    I'm dissapointed in this review.

    VETO Score 8/10

  • may be we in the uk didn't get Rondo of Blood on Pc but i dont no that coz im more in 2 TR RE & MGS ud have 2 go on wikipedia & see about the uk geting Rondo of Blood on the Pc
