It is not that magic forces from heaven act upon him, it is that religious people, specially if they are really really and really on to it have such a strong mindset and determination that nothing stops them. See the Iraqui fundamentalists fighting with sticks and stones against the napalm of the marines, they would still keep fighiting though they were in flames. The Marines were horrified and shocked.

Also they accept misfortunes with resignation whilst we would go to pieces. Non religious people are self centered and always have too much pressure on themselves. The fundamentalists are not afraid of dying, and they can push themselves beyond you and i can. I have seen that everywhere, regardless of what religion.
