Have you heard of 12 speed transmissions? I could possibly be getting a job soon and the guy said their trucks have 12 speed trannys in them. I looked on the internet for references on 12 speeds, and it seemed like that most of the few 12 speeds I found were automatics. What do you know about 12 speeds?
Engine brakes weren't common on most trucks until the middle 90's. They raised the weight limit from 73,280 to 80g in 1982. I have pulled Monteagle and Black in North Carolina without a Jake many times, it just takes something called skill. If you try real hard you can even do real passes like Cabbage, Grapevine, and Donner with over 80g and no jake, cruise, or automatic transmission. Ask any old school wildcat reefer driver. If you think you can, try to run with one?
Using engine brakes while pulling no weight and without a hill in sight is the reason they are being banned in so many places. If people keep it up, engine brakes might just be outlawed. Then you will be creeping down the hills that they were designed for and everyone will suffer.
He means some people (like me) enjoy the sound of a jake brake and use it when not really needed, while other people don't. Most industrial areas have "no engine brakes allowed" signs because of the noise they make. I don't care...loud pipes save lives:))
if engine brakes we're outlawed do you realize how many trucks would crashed up and bottom of steep hills and such? try going through tennessee or Colorado or any state with some moutains with a 80,000 pound rig with no jake brake, you'll see...i can sometimes see, ill use em without realizing i dont need it..usually u just shut them off certain trucks its a pain to shift and use them lol
