  • Great! Mom loves ya!! 😍😍😝

  • music has no expiration date. [this is proof of that]

  • hi

  • The reason Billy Joel came up with "Songs in the Attic" was because he wanted to re-record some of his earlier songs off of his lesser albums, now that he had a set backing band. I think a double CD expanded version of this LP should be released which would include the two instrumentals from Streetlife Serenade that are "Root Beer Rag" and "The Mexican Connection."

  • I love playing this on the guitar.

  • Ain't that the truth......

  • My fave song of the moment. God this guy's good...everyone thinks it's all Uptown Girl...if only they knew

  • I thought this was from Cold Spring Harbor album

  • @Marixpress2

The original version is, but Billy hated that entire 1971 LP since it was recorded/mastered at the wrong speed and, after having initially listened to it, according to his back story, he "ripped it off of the turntable, ran out of the house and threw the record down the street."

  • song starts at 0.30 for those who cant wait

  • This song was from an album released in 1971, but it sure seems as though it was written about Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears and all the rest.

  • If this was a rap song the message would be, "Get over yourself you spoiled fucking bitch". But that would not be artistically subtle. Ya know?

  • @rgaleny That actually sounds pretty accurate.

  • Does anyone know if this concert from "Sparks" on Long Island available on DVD? Thanks.

  • 180,000 views to Justin Bieber's 550 million.

People can like what they like, but for God's sake. This deserves so much more.

  • Billy is a legend............everything I ever wanted to be!

  • @declanseery that's sad

  • This is the most underrated song ever. Nothing can top it. This is the height of epic pop. 6/5!

  • how can you not like this song my dad toured with billy and sang with him in good night sigon 3rd on the right i think in the crue

  • My friend was in USA 1978, she came back with Billy Joel´s LPs. It was the first time I ever listened him, I still love him, his music, lyrics.

  • I didn't even know about this song until he played it in an appearance on Conan O'Brien in recent years. It's nice to make "discoveries" like that, even if they're a little late. :)

  • amazing fingers at 1:48

  • One of the Billy's best. The lyrics, melody and vocals are all insane. Best american singer/songwriter ever.

  • The original studio version was from the album Cold Spring Harbor.

  • one of his best, on one of his most underated albums

  • Such an amazing, amazing artist. How many other singer/songwriters have such a versatile powerful voice, those instrumental chops, his level of lyric and melodic craft, and harmonic richness? Not many.

  • @leojbramble Not any, he is truly the best.

  • ...mmazza che du volte strunz il du volte marones dieci!

  • One of Billy's Best songs. Thanks.

  • Really amazing song, I've been a Joel fan all my life and somehow hadn't heard Songs in the Attic until this song was used in Consolevania. Amazing track

  • I love the song Everybody Loves You Now from Billy Joel.

  • great lyrics

  • I love this song. It's basically a big middle-finger to a woman who's rejected you. Billy knows how to keep it real.

  • Amazing

  • billy can play on my radio any day, any time, anywhere. In my office, NO ONE turns off billy if they know whats good for them =D

  • GREAT song. GREATT!!

  • Didn't really rate the drummer until I saw this, bloody magic bit of playing!!!

  • awesome!...thanks for posting this one!...

  • What a great great song. Kicking. And what a great voice.

  • I would make sweet love to that man. Old school Billy Joel is sexy!

  • One of the best songs, he has written ever. Love it: the Combo of power and sensitivity. Desperado-Billy, longing, striving, hurting, conquering: The cocktail for his best songs.

  • those guitar players are insane

  • I would pay anything to go back in time and see this performance live. Cold Spring Harbor surpasses his current records in my opinion. Dont get me wrong I love his current songs, but Cold Spring Harbor is amazing to me

  • Phenomenal!

  • "You can have your cake and eat it too."

I never thought I'd hear Billy say that.

  • heyy! this gig must have been important, he's had a hair cut. shame it never grew back... he is an extreme genuis and i only hope that one day i'll be just like him. buy hey, what are the chances of that?! we can all dream though! x

  • @TheMagedMan - agreed. @ henleyspecial - You have the same Billy Joel video collection as my older brother (pics popping in and out of an album to open/close videos). Ahh the memories.

  • Inspiring stuff!! Pure energy. Love it!!!

  • brilliant-piano bars and Billy shall return, love his music and jokes+this is so fast tempo, had to open my eyes;to the World!thanks, very much, for sharing

  • Greatest American singer/songwriter ever. Bar none.

  • THE greatest singer/songwriter EVER!

  • billy will write more songs again-i know it

  • hes is such an amazingly hott and great artist!!! his music and meloie and lyrics and himself is all BEAUTIFULL!!`

  • Does anyone have a link for the video of "Say Goodbye to Hollywood" from this same show?

  • Just type in Say goodbye to hollywood songs in the attic, and i'm sure it will come up!

  • ah dayumm!!! such a great great and i mean GREAT hot artist!! :)

  • We need piano bars back!!

  • Great acoustic guitar in this song - reminds me of Pete Townshend playing Pinball Wizard.

  • nice vid, sounds a little off, but Billy Joel is still awsome

  • Thats cuz this was done the 'old fashioned way', NO pro tools, NO auto-tune, NO pitch correction. Its as real as it gets. :)

  • @BillyJoelTributeBand The mark of a true artist. Doesn't need it at all, and no doubt even turns it down now if it's ever offered. Far too talented.

  • such an awesome video!

  • pliskenlee it could be any of these

christie lee, big shot, uptown girl, shes got a way, always a woman, shes right on time, if not those gimme more info even a line or 2 I know most of his stuff.

  • graži daina ;)

  • thanks for posting this.....this is a great song and i think very underated

  • up town girl?

  • Songs In The Attic is probably Joel's best album. It's certainly the one I listen to the most - and never get tired of. Stirs up memories of Tokyo in 1986 when I was thin, poor and loving every minute of life in Japan...

  • This particular performance is form July 1981 @ a club called "Sparks" on Long Island. The gig was recorded and filmed with the intent of creating videos of songs to promote Songs In The Attic.Other songs from this show that were made into videos include: Say Goodbye To Hollywood, You're My Home and Los Angelenos.

The version of Everybody Loves You Now on "Songs In The Attic" comes from a show in Washington D.C. during the summer of 1980.

  • whats the name of his song where I think he sings about an ex-wife or something it's quite upbeat, can't seem to find it cause I dont know the name of it.

  • big shot?

  • uptown girl?

  • @pliskenlee uptown girl. but hes had 3 wives and written songs about all of them. if its upbeat, its uptown girl. if its somewhat sad, shes always a woman to me. and more recently, all my life.

  • @mikeypoo76 Thanks for the history lesson. I just want to hear the song

  • @mikeypoo76 Nice - thanks for the add'l info

  • @mikeypoo76 all of songs in the Attic was from a show he did at Toads Place. a club in New Haven CT

  • @vinnym089 not true. it's a compilation of recordings from Madison Square Garden, Bayou in DC, St. Paul Civic Center, Toad's Place, Paradise Club in Boston, Milwaukee Arena, the Spectrum in Philly, and Horizon in Chicago.

  • @mikeypoo76

    Thanks man..never knew that...

    It's an incredible performance..

It sounds a bit desk managed..do you know if it was over dubbed in the studio...

  • This song and this performance is so uplifting and reminds me, as a piano singer why Billy is my hero..

He inspired me to do what I do for a living..I keep coming back to this video..it's simply amazing..

    Long live the Piano man

  • This version is on Songs in the Attic.

  • Oh! One more question to whomever may know. I tried to purchase this on iTunes from the "Songs in the Attic" album and the version I found was slightly different. Does anyone know where I can find this one?

  • ZiggyS - this is the same arrangement and time period as the version on Songs in the Attic, but it's not the precise recording. Not sure this video is "buyable" on iTunes or anywhere else.

  • It's outstanding!!

  • So where's this video from?

  • Billy boy is always top of the line !!

  • Great Song , full of Energy and Life

  • Yeah and the Song Big Shot, I heard he like, went out and made an ass of himself and went to write a song about it. I don't know for sure but Thats just what i heard from a reliable source...

  • That's an interesting story. I've never heard it before! Thanks for the info! :)

  • Yes, this is a great song, and I believe it is the version from Songs in The Attic.

  • WOW, this is phenomonal. I've seen like every version of this song but hadn't seen this. This isn't from the songs in the attic album. Must've been from one of the live shows they were doing at the time of the recording of the album. SO good!!!

  • no its from songs in the attic. liberty is on drums and he didnt join the band until 76 on turnstilles. and the info says from songs in the attic.

  • It is from Songs in the Attic - Songs in the Attic was a collection of live shows that he did around the US -

  • This is what you wanted ain't you proud!!

  • Awesome vid, but his 'fro makes me think he just got out of bed.

  • his notes inside the album cover said he was so pissed off at her that he felt like everyone loved her at the time, but they really didn't. A little affair ending badly. I just CRANK the crap out of this song in my car... it's so energetic and he sings it with such passion on the lp. I just can't get enough of it!

  • Same i've been listing to him for all of my twenty years on earth and never once got bored, try find someone like this on mtv!!! sad but true. ps if you like billy check out some of my tracks well there's only one but i'll be adding more, its very easy to see his influence on me.

  • An intriguing point about his music as he states so many times in his own words is that many of these songs are also about him - he is reflecting so many times on his own life - "you aint got the time to go to cold spring harbor anymore" - he''s talking about himslef

  • froth: Its very similar to the album version, but its not the same. actually, i like the vocals better on this one.

  • I agree!

  • This song is one of those under-rated pop tunes that just continues to echo through the ages....and I wish i'd written it.

  • @RoadDoggNTB But you didn't

  • @dmorrow10 thank you Captain Obvious ... no hate, just ribbin' you

  • i really love i have it on songs in the attic and its really great!!

  • Thanks. Now I'm curious: It sounds pretty much alike the version on "Songs in the attic", but I'm sure it is not the same (his voice sounds less stressed in the highest peaks). Another concert on the same tour?

  • i freaking love billy joel!

  • Thank you.Never saw this before. Can anyone add more details about it?

  • everybody loves billy now.......great video

  • + ten this song rocks!!!!!!!!!

  • Trivial pursuit - who is he singing about in this song?

  • I just hope that you are not more than 12 years old.

  • Ok. Who is he singing about?

  • So, Who is this about?

  • That would make Billy gay since at one point he sings "They all want your white body...and so do I"...

  • I think the song's about someone who sells themself in a metaphorical sense. Everybody loves them, but do they love everyone? "Feelings do not matter in your(the person's) 'game'," and so this person has lost that humanly connection with people who love them or rather love who they are on the outside, their guise.

With regard to "they all want your white body" that could be an allusion to the superficiality of a femme fatal to whom "ev'rything revolves on what you(she)does."

  • I always thought it was a significant other who is breaking into the music business or something and is becoming rapidly famous.

  • his wife at the time: "her leave me? she must be a self possessed bitch!"

  • oh, dana s-greco, we had some great times. I think about you all the time...between me and you and the staten island ferry.

  • that's simmons-greco. miss you.

  • Billys a fucking beast

  • He's unbelievable! Not like the trash music of today...Glad I grew up in this area..Can't wait for the concert in Ft. Lauderdale Feb. 6!!!!!!

  • if you like this check out eli mattson's version. you will be in for a treat.

  • i love this song i wish i had the album!!!

  • seriously is this not the greatest song ever.... unreal emotion

  • What do you mean by emotion? This is a very emotional song, to me: passionately bitter and disillusioned.

  • You can feel that he meant every lyric... I am young but the way he captures every word and transforms every detail is just unreal... I am a hopeless romantic like he is so I guess I can relate

  • Exactly! I'm very young as well, but I'm old enough to recognise real emotion when I hear it.

  • this recording is better than the one on songs in the attic.... :)

  • one in the same, no?

  • no not necessarily... this one is more lively and plus billy doesnt screw up the words "white body" in this recording... he kinda choked on the note in songs in the attic. if you are referring to the song though... then yes. they are the same. :)

  • Also, the melody he sings for the line "you ain't got the time to go to Spring Harbor no more" is different than the Songs in the Attic version.

  • I got a ticket 18th this month in Tokyo Dome. he is the best.

  • him and elton are going back on tour for 2009?

  • According to Elton, yes they are. Elton is back in Las Vegas now doing a reprise of Red Piano with some new gimmicks, and Billy Elliot is opening on Broadway, then he goes back to the UK for a project and then he's back with Billy Joel. There's nothing about this on Joel's site yet.

  • I would so go to that!!!

  • it must be tough being a genious..this is as good as it gets

  • yea man there is no emotion behind new music these days

  • he's just totally awesome

  • he is the best... period

  • this song is verry true, lonlyness will get to you some how.

  • Songs From The Attic-love that album!

  • that was the first Billy Joel album I ever bought

  • The guy at 2:09 is indeed the bassist. His name is Doug Stegmeyer. Not sure if it spelled right.

  • hey buggy did you know what happened to Larry "the roach" impelatarri the original touring bassist back in '71?

  • Who's that guy at 2:09?

  • The bassist?

  • I just have to add, at the risk of sounding just a little "fangirl"-esc, I dig his facial expressions when he sings! Especially this particular song! ^_^

  • This is the way it should be for Billy. I wish he would put the old band back together and pare it down as far as musicians. These guys here really helped define his sound and to me it's just not the same without Liberty on drums. Mark Rivera is always fantastic on the sax and I suppose for the younger folks who never got the chance to see Billy live before the 2008 version of him isn't bad but to me there's just way too many people cluttering up that stage. It's lost the magic like it was here.

  • He. Is. So. Great.

  • The original 1971 studio version has been sped up like a Chipmunk style.

  • ive never heard it so... guitar-y

    so sick

    i love it

he has to have one of the best voices ever

live... on the album... always flawless

  • Anyone know what club this was recorded in? Great performance.

  • I think this was recorded at Toad's Place, New Haven CT before Los Angelenos from the same album. The cameras the same, hair on everyone is the same, and the stage is layed out exactly the same

  • This is a fantastic song!

  • Great song on a great album,(Cold Spring Harbor)one of my faves.

  • ☺

  • Billy looks so intense and driven. Success written all over him. (Too bad the blood-sucking leeches were waiting...)

  • they always are

    everyone wants a piece

  • So what rock n roll hits did Gershwin have? Your comparison is f***ked up...

  • I love Billy Joel..on record and in concert, but Joel would be the first to admit that Gershwin will be remembered long after he is forgotten.

  • Nowadays generation cant even remember Gershwin...never heard of him. This will also happen to billy in about 60 years. Time comes and goes, just enjoy his music :)

  • Never heard of George Gershwin...are you kidding ? Then again, when I was listening to lots of rock 30 years ago, I probably did not know about guys like Gershwin, Cole Porter, Richard Rodgers, Irving Berlin, etc, either.... Guys like McCartney, Lennon, Dylan and Brian Wilson come near them. Guys like Billy Joel a bit further down on the ladder, IMO. Then again, to each is own.

  • Don't say that! Forget Billy? Never!

  • Oh common. You know what i mean. You and I will never forget him, and the next generation aswell. But in 75 years, only a few will know him

  • I must admit, this is sad but true. I jus
