so cute he seemed to be enjoying it. it looked like he was actively swimming with you...or your hand anyway XDD i don't know why people are freaking out about it because if a fish is scared of you it will swim all the way to the bottom of the tank away from your reach. this guy, once her hand left the tank, almost followed her. he's a cutie

I still pet Howard He is still loving it. He stares at me from across the room for hours until someone pays attention to him. Petting my oscar is no worse than fishing, swimming with dolphins. He would be dead by now, to all ya who have such a big deal he is 5 now in our years

Hmm...im currently keeping 2 baby oscars (i need to find them a bigger tank before they stunt...) and when i clean the tank, they keep staring at my arm. If i put my finger inside, one of them bites me thinking its food. And once i was feeding them and before i dropped the food into the tank, one of them jumped and ALMOST ate the food out of my hand.

Oscars are pretty! <3 Too bad im gonna have to give them away if i dont get a bigger tank...

Howard is a very happy fish. He has never lived in anything except this 55 gallon tank. Like I have said before, if he did not like it he will go to the other side of the tank away from me. Oscar grow bigger when they are feed fish more than pellets. We only treat him every now and then with fish. The oscar before this howard we couldn't pet and feed fish all the time. He was bigger than Howard. The other jump outta tank in middle of night, poor guy. Then we got Howard.

My fish is over 4 years old and I have done this since he was very tiny. I don't have to feed him for him to want touched. He will bang the glass to have me put my hand in the take. BY THE WAY I HAVE 2 DOGS AND A CAT THAT I PET TOO

dont pet your fish.i damages the slimecoating on them which protects them from infections and some diseases.only reason they may seem to like it is because they think u have food.look it up buddy and dont kill your fish.(very beautiful oscar by the way.)

So to everyone who has a problem with me touching my fish can take your advice and flush it. I love Howard very much and if he was hurting I wouldn't do it. He likes it too. When he doesn't he tries to bite. I will put my man trying to pet him and all he does is attack.

oscars are from the american cichlids family, his skin is very very thick and rough because he is built for fighting and living in rocky lakes. he usually scratch himself on rocks, im not sure why but it seems like he doesnt give a sh*t so i think he's just fine.

Dude I have owed Howard since he was an inch in size now he is 10+. He lets me do it everyday. He is in a 55gal. and when he is not in the mood he goes to the other side. Thanks for the comment though

A simple petting does not harm the fish's slime coat nor does it harm the fish. It takes a lot more than that to kill a fish, especially an Oscar.

Oscars are sweet fish...Very intelligent, they have great personalities, can be trained, and are pretty affectionate, too. I have a little lutino oscar named Murdoc. He's very sweet.
