He wasnt pretneding to hit her. If you look properly it looks like they had another bird and bringing it forward which the one her shoulder didnt like?
wowwww you people are crazies. parrots very often get attached to one person and view them as their mate. i don't know if the woman whose ear was bitten was the bird's 'mate', but parrots' logic when they see a threat is to bite their mate to try and make them fly away, so they won't be hurt, or possibly wooed by a competitor. /bird ramble.
Does he pick out his feathers from his thighs? feather picking and other associated self mutilation is a common sign of intense stress, unhapiness and severe depression.. the video makes it look like he does have bald thighs, if this is so please check it out... thats not a good sign or a sign of a happy bird with all his needs fulfilled. If the video is deceptive and he is ok then i think the other advice in the comments dose not need to be repeated for you on the person upsetting him..
what's this thing doing in captivity in the first place? humans are so perverted to allow this imprisonment of all the other animals. and then they focus on handling techniques. ha. i feel for the billions of poor imprisoned souls who have to live in crazy situations like this. fucking nuts but legal and even encouraged.
Ouch! Hawk-heads are one bird I would not let up on the shoulder. I have to say this looks like a case of mis-directed aggression to me. No bird likes a hand flying down out of the sky over their heads, it looks like a predator. He couldn't bite the hand so he bit the human he was on instead.
when we got our bird (a baby green cheek) it used to peck alot so when ever it pecks we would punish him with a drissle of water (not a lot) over time he stopped pecking and if we approach him like touch him with out him pecking we give him a small treat.
Yes, that bird looked very very defensive and rather angry. So it took it out on the closest thing, an ear. Most injuries happen when someone lets their bird on their shoulder. have learned not to do that. Results in a dominant bird. Also, your friend waiving their hand in the birds face? Not cool. That made him angry and defensive. I suggest your friends become better bird handlers or you will have a very angry bird on your hands. On a light note, beautiful hawk headed parrot
by the way, when you say the bird likes the attention, i beg to differ. if the bird liked the drunk to pretend to hit her then she wouldn't have gone into defense mode. maybe you should read up on bird care and behavior for the sake of your beautiful bird.
no one's drunk here, I want to make that clear..thank you for your concern..and there's no need to call people names. read eviecreations comment, she probably knows a lot about birds and she's right.
look at 00:18, the drunk moron was pretending to try and hit the bird numerous times and then the bird bites her not just once but twice to try to get her away from her dumb friends. and when she doesen't leave he continues to try and protect her and gets yelled at to, and i quote, "STOP THAT!". why didn't anyone tell the stupid drunk that? it's always the birds' falt, never the high human!
If the other people in the room weren't acting like assholes then maybe the bird wouldn't have bitten her. You say he is pampered but he doesn't seem to happy. I hope for the sake of your soul that you really do treat him well.
bird behavior is strange atleast to humans... if a bird is on your shoulder they can be more aggressive. But the behavior he is showing I think it more one that a pair of wild birds will show. If they see a threat or what they think is a threat to their loved one.. they will bite their loved one so that it flys away from the danger coming... I think he must love her very much
What a beautiful Hawkhead. I have one too, but my gals eyes are not quite that striking. I love the hissing sound. My does that when she is chasing my kids away from me. She likes to protect me. Of course, it is a game she absolutely loves to play.
she had stud earrings on. my sun and my greenwing used to bite at shiny things. they both died. my sun got nemonia, and my greenwing had macaw wasting disease. be careful when buying a bird. i had both of them examined by avian vets. don't buy from parrot super center in Longview, tx. they sold me a greenwing with a congenital macaw wasting disease. did'nt get a replacement or money back
He doesn't look like he was having a good time at all being shaken at like that which is why he resorted to the instinctual behavior when they feel threatened: biting the thing nearest to them as a bluff.

Could be due to the moron swinging his hand at the bird, or just the setting in general.
I took a nasty bite on the ear. Turns out a parrot I took in doesn't like the telephone. LOL

@minihorseluver I agree. The actions of the person waving their hands around the bird agitated it to fight or flight state.
