  • they should remake this episode with that voice

  • thank god the original voices sounded so bad

  • Great!!

  • The BBC listened to you!

  • i like it but i think its too much like the new series voices tbh

  • That is Roy Skelton's voice.

  • The new voices on the preview sound just like these!!!!! - Did you final get approached by the BBC, and get the credit you deserve?

  • Hey, have you all heard the news? For the new DVD release of the story, there's an optional dub for the Daleks by Nick Briggs.

  • Ecscuse me for asking, but how did you edit your Voice in Gold Wave, I myself have tried countless times (or near enough) to get a decent Dalek voice, but I have never achieved it to a standard such as yours.

  • How did you use GoldWave to do the voice?

  • This is a major inprovement.almost sounded like nicholas biggs's dalek voice :)

  • 10,000 times better then the Beeb did it in '72 and I LOVE that Gold Dalek - I'd get thisplanetearth to build me one if I had the cash

  • MUCH better. I thought the Day of the Daleks voices were absolutely AWFUL!

  • great!

I always thought the original dalek voices in Day of the Daleks were TERRIBLE

  • Watch my Five Doctors new effects vid.

  • @Redhellmet Nah, it's alright :)

  • So what are you using for these excellent voices? Audacity perhaps?

  • Goldwave, (google it, it's free) then touched up in Adobe Audition

  • What effects did you use in Goldwave to acheive what youve got?

  • This should be done for the whole film!

  • wow i perfer this type of voice than nicholas' briggs version!

  • EXCELLENT REDUB!

    I really enjoyed this version!

    Weldone!!

    P.s.

Did anyone else notice in the origional "day of the daleks" that towards the later two episodes the gold daleks voice went faster and changed a little in pace? lol

  • yes! hahaha I noticed that too lol I guess it was how they filmed them in those days

  • That's better! I don't know WHY they changed the modulation in the original, but it was rubbish!

  • Several reasons for the different voices in the original. Firstly, neither Peter Hawkins nor Roy Skelton were present, or indeed anyone else who'd done a Dalek voice (apologies to other Dalek voice actors, those are just the two I remember).

I think in the original they lost the original ring modulator, or couldn't remember the settings or something like that. Can't find any references for that, so I may be wrong.

Either way, they had lost the sound they'd developed over half a dozen stories.

  • Very well done!

  • the daleks are suppose to be emotionles. However, in some videos you can hear their anger. doesnt make any sence

  • Daleks aren't emotionless - they have very strong emotions. Hate, anger and fear, mainly.

  • I wouldn't say fear.. hate and anger definitely, but not so much fear. Well.. you are right, actually, they do HAVE fear, but they don't like to display it. Yeah. ^_^ lol

  • Yeah, they definitely fear - that's why they hide in armoured battle casings...

They're certainly scared of the Doctor in some stories...

  • i'd prefered to think of them as emotionless (simply acting on cold logic regarding preprogrammed purpose) however they can definitely get a bit over-excited on occasion.

  • learn to spell.

  • Actually he's spot on, the orginal Dalek voices actors said that they could only go up due to hysteria, hysteria is an emotion.

  • I like the new voice.

The old voice sounded too much like demented idiots

  • Wow I never liked the new series Dalek voices at all but this is really good.

  • Yes an updated extra feature on the DVD release (whenever that happens) would be great.

  • That does sound better.

  • Fantastic, Never could stand those awful voices that the original used, what wanker gave him the fuckin job?

  • Spectacular! Well done

  • they should put this a dvd option its so good

  • Much better than the original!

  • I argee the original is so bad i'm surpised they ever released it on television

  • Absolutely-this is a much needed improvement!

  • More! More!!

  • They sound much better

  • now THAT would have had them wetting themselves back then!

  • much better than the original

  • Here why don't you get a life? I'd love to see you do better... bender

  • @angelbecki27 You cannot improve on the original, as for the 2005 Series onwards many improvements can & should be made, like the scripts & the music.

  • Deutschland, Deutschland über alles,

    Über alles in der Welt,

Wenn es stets zu Schutz und Trutze,

    Brüderlich zusammenhält,

  • I'd like to see you do better.

  • very POORLY redone?? i say very poorly DONE - meaning the original day o the daleks voices. WATCH THE ORIGINAL STORY, YOU PRAT!

  • thanks to all the youtubers who had no sense and rated my repply to this bully beef a minus 7! i suppose thats what you get for standing up for the maker of this video!

  • Sounds excellent!

  • they sound mint

  • So true

  • These voices are so much better than the originals in DofD.

  • Fun. 10/10.

  • Thankyou for making new voices. The other ones (in that story)were just crap.

  • That was truly excellent. As a matter of fact I think you sound better than Nick Briggs. I'm serious.

  • If this is released I bet Nick Briggs would re-record the lines for nothing. He loves the Daleks... don't he?

  • id hope so, hell if not i'd do it for nothing :P

  • Can you download ring modulators or do you have to buy them?

  • there are some packages which you have to purchase such as adobe soundbooth and audition but there are free ones on the net such as HOG and Goldwave, i use a combination of Goldwave and Adobe Audition to do mine.

  • Cheers.

  • @Trayusstudent1 He's done a re-recording of the voices for the dvd release that comes out next year. 100% FACT

  • @Jamiethewookie Yup, the story's intended to be released at the back end of next year however a recolourised Ambassadors Of Death is rumoured to be a backup should there be delays :)

Next year will be a 3rd Doctor heavy year for DVD releases :D

  • @Trayusstudent1 That is EXACTLY what he is doing!

  • That actuallly sounded very good. The voice over artists who did the original voices back in 72 should have been shot

  • @adamjjj You know who should have been shot? Russell T. Davies & Steven Moffat, & while they're at it Chris Eccleston & Murry Gold as well. Preferably before they got their jobs on Dr. Who.

  • Re-recording lines with actors means paying lots of money. Creating CGI effects in house is cheaper.

  • @GavSalkeld Yeah CGI is the cheapest effect. It also is the cheapest looking affect.

  • Theres no way theres gonna be a redubbed option on the DVD, no way. What are they gonna do, get Roy Skelton or Nick Briggs in especially to re-record lines? The Restoration Team havent the time or money to do that.

  • Well, if they can create new CGI effects and etceteras for DVDs, I don't see it as prohibitively expensive at all, to re-record the Dalek dialogue - perhaps as an easter egg?

Unless they go for 'The Chase', the next classic series Dalek DVD has to be a Pertwee.

  • @randomdave79 Too bad there isn't an option on the 2005 series onwards DVD's to view with good stories & good scripts instead of the dross RTD came out with.

  • Actually I asked Steve Roberts that in Gallifrey Base and he did say that they would consider it as an optional extra.

  • Fantastic!!! Really hope they redubbed it as a DVD option. Probably won't, but we can hope. Doing any other scenes? Your Dalek voices are really authentic too.

  • i'd love to see every other scene with dalek voices from Day done... this is excellent.

mostly, cos if they dont do it on the DVD release, i'll use them to make up my own DVD!

  • A HUGE improvement! The Daleks are IMO the thing the new series got dead-on, but this classic ep really didn't do them any favors. Great to hear them sounding correct at last! I'd like to think they'll add this as an option on the DVD release when we get one, but I expect they won't. :(

  • I hope they use this re-dubb or do this themselves for the whole story when it comes to DVD, much needed, why did they have rubbish voices in thsi one anyway, Revelation suffers a simialr if not as bad fate also, why did they not just use the tried and testd voice that that they used for all the other stoies? Never has been explained that.

  • very true

  • @js2001b1 Why does Mr. Briggs keep giving the main Dalek a stupid gravelly voice, THAT is never explained - in the days of more than one take, in the day of playback & DVD & it always being the same guy.

  • Much better than the original voices.

  • what r u on about the daleks had those voices before the new series came about! this is the 1 story that cocked it up

  • u honestly think so!! ha ha ha ha ha...whoeva did the new voices has done to perfection it is so much better than the original!!

  • @iloveopals I agree the originals were better & can't be improved upon, I wish I could say the same for the scripts of the new series, but i can't!

  • A bit too angry? the daleks are suposed to sound angry, brilliant 5 stars

  • the old voices on this episode kinda sucked

  • Comment removed

  • @timelord663 Didn't suck as much as a script by Russell T. Davies!

  • Peter Hawkins does the best dalek voice, closely followed by Roy Skelton, but this is very impressive 8/10

  • IMHO, the original Dalek voices for this story didn't sound very intimidating at all; but your re-dub sent a chill up my spine. That's the sort of Dalek voice that kicks butt and takes names. Well done!

  • Brilliant vocal rendering!! The original voices of the Daleks in this story were sadly very crap. This is top notch stuff, as good as or in my opinion even better than Briggs!!!!!!!

  • Sounds like someone got a ring modulator for Christmas...

  • that was really good, i was so impressed with the 2007 dalek voice overs than the old ones

  • @matt2house 2007? Daleks in Manhattan? The one where one of the Daleks looks around & then whispers: "Affirmative"? The one were the Supreme Dalek looses modulation & gets an American accent? You thought those voices were better than the originals? I don't thin you've seen the originals, if you don't think it gets better than that.

  • @LegoDaleks fyi I have seen the classic series (which I still prefer), I grew up watching it as there was repeats back then. And where did you get the idea that dalek sec was speaking like an american?.....I dont think that you think at all matey.

  • @matt2house Are you saying you don't remember the line: "I am a human Dalek." & then the next episode - Evolution of the Daleks, he's got an American accent cuz he's an American, human Dalek. That was 2007.

  • @LegoDaleks of course i remembered i was actually talking about before dalek sec merged with that yank. but still he wasnt a proper dalek after the merging

  • Yeah, Day of the Daleks had some poor Dalek voices, it sort of picks up when the head Dalek is mad at that guy who's working for them (forgot his name), but otherwise it just sounds off.

  • VERY impressive work!!!

  • Nice...VERY NICE!! You should be doing new who!

  • Absolutely fantastic. More soon!

  • Bloody hell! Who is this Robert Ritchie and why hasn't he replaced Nicholas Briggs??

Day of the daleks had perhaps the worst Dalek voices in Doctor Who history... you've made them utterly terrifying! One of the greatest Dalek voices I've heard. The internet is full of terrible Dalek impersonations, so this is a breath of fresh air.

  • lol thanks alot i should post more dalek voices

  • I think the bit with the "Exterminate them" in multiple was oneo the best bits, but yah, the way they pronounced every syllable seperately before was really my only gripe, good work though. not as good as nicholas briggs, but damned good

  • Better than Briggsy, I think. He doesn't like Roy Skelton and deliberately makes every one of his Daleks sound sarcastic like they did in Power of the Daleks. It just doesn't fit them at all.

  • well, we're all entitled to our opinions I guess, I've said my piece :P

  • @OtaKing77077 Victory of the Daleks has the worst Dalek voices, cuz the one that has the most lines, Briggs gives a stupid gravelly voice to.

  • Typical! Here I am, thinking I'll re-do Day of the Daleks to match my Revenge of the Cybermen, only to find that you've alreay done it! And bloody well too! Damn you! ;)

Seriously, that's very good. My own experimentation has found that A LOT of it is in the delivery, so Robert Ritchie has to be SERIOUSLY commended on the voice work here. The modulation is spot-on too, very well done! :)

  • Whenever that guy talks, he sneers!

    Classic!!

  • This is an awesome re dub, how did you do it

  • how do you do it !

  • cool cool cool cool cool!!!!!!! maybe you should name and shame the pathetic one off duo that did the original voices???

  • Im not conviced , the new series Daleks in my opinion dont go well with the 70's Daleks , thou perhaps if you did this with the Genesis of the Daleks versions it probably would have me conviced , but on this one , no !.

Cheers , Jason [ Doctor Who One ]

  • Good. The original voices in this one sounded quite lame compared to the Tom Baker era.

  • I hope if they put this out on dvd that they have an option of a redubbed soundtrack for the dalek voices. That would be great.

  • @amazingrandy900 You know what would be even better? If you had the option to watch the new series with better scripts, actors & special effects & even better Dalek voices as Mr. Briggs always gives the supreme Dalek (the one that talks the most) the stupid gravelly voice.

  • amazing, So much more chilling...I lke my daleks in the shadows, rather than brightly lit

  • SOUNDS A LOT BETTER!.

  • this is a huge improvement well done

  • I am an enemy of the Daleks! I must be exterminated! lol

  • The voices in Day of the Daleks were SO GAY!!!

  • so much better

  • that is amaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazing much better than the original voices

  • this is so great i can not stop watching it its so fantasic

  • all enemys of the daleks must be destroyed in other words very, very good

  • class job much better well done bud

  • Nick Briggs, WATCH OUT!

  • you should send these to the bbc

  • @olol001 Along with some decent scripts for series 6.

  • These voices are much better tham the original.

  • cool i have never seen the originals but i bet it was not as great as this

  • @Ashleywoolston Watch the original. the original was much better.

  • I remember reading about this, to make the voices they used a vocoder often refered to as a ring modulator. The Device works on different frequencies and the morons at the BBC never wrote the right one down lol

  • Sorry to be a pedent about this but Vocoders and Ring Modulators are very different things.

  • Right, excuse me gotta right a complaint to a web site XD

  • @dimitrijevic Never mind about modulator errors what about when in the new series they make script errors like when the Dr. , in Victory of the Daleks, says the Daleks are his oldest enemy. What the hell does the BBC have to write down so they don't make those kind of errors.

  • absolutely excellent, they were absolutely teeribe in the actual story, these are great, so much more daleky, if there is such a word lol

  • brilliant! ill never know y the screwed up there voices! or produced such a crap dalek episode

  • lol it was years since the previous dalek episode and they forgot how to do em and just got some randoms to do the voice

  • still theyre much better than the originals! n thats no excuse! they should do their research or dont bother wreckin a great villain

  • @tardiselliot The scripts of RTD & Moffat 'wreck' these great villains all the time.

  • @tardiselliot RTD & Moffat (with the help of Raynor & Gatiss) are always producing crap Dalek episodes. Day of the Daleks is nowhere near crap especially if compared to Victory of the Daleks.

  • @LegoDaleks

I agree that victory of the daleks was poor, but other than that, the new era have made great additions to the Dalek Mythos

  • better than the first one!!! well dun
