  • lager taste like piss

  • typical scots larger drinking scum bags spending so much money on rubbish no wonder the country is adump

  • @vania1013 i blame the neighbours

  • the one who disliked was flattened by the boulder..!

  • It was called actually filmed in 1986 but it ran for about five years both on national TV and in cinemas and was filmed in 35mm for cinema release. McEwans released a 3" mini CD of the original soundtrack from all 3 ads starting with Escher in 1986 through to the last one in 1989. It included the actually Win remix with the advert lyrics but without the iron bells.

  • @culttelevision I have this CD and have ripped it if you or anyone wants any of the tracks.

  • @richardbirch2007 Yes please Richard. I can't find mine anywhere and would love a copy. Thanks

  • @culttelevision Try this: [world wide web] . m e g a u p l o a d . c o m / ? d = A G D F N 7 A I

(Sorry for the spaces, ridiculous how you cannot add a link normally to a comment.

  • @richardbirch2007 That is meant to be three w's as you can probably guess but you can't post it!

  • I'd roll a boulder around a Castle for a free pint and so would the lot of you.

  • They've released the second album on cd recently, still waiting for the first! great track, pish lager. don't think they make it anymore.

  • I have to disagree with a few here...Great track by WIN [from the album Uh! Tears Baby] and a lovely lager, Thing is i cant find this in any superstore only on tap in clubs...grrrrrr...lol

  • Awesome - thanks for uploading. I think this advert got me drinking this lager so it must be a great advert .... ;)

  • I am amazed that this hasn't been remixed for the clubs recently. I am dancing in my chair here.

  • mcspewins piss water, great tune and advert though

  • Ah McEwans. Pure Pish.

  • Back in the day when it didnt cost fifty thousand to put on an thirty second ad X)

  • Great ad , I think it was made in Rossi`s on west nile street in Glasgow , could be wrong but one things right the lager was pisswater .

  • How can you say McEwans is not a great lager?

  • superb video many memories from the eighties great song from win too what happend to them??

  • ahh McPish, making a bit of a comeback. Had some in a pub recently. Still pish

  • Win - You Got The Power

  • great ad crap beer but i miss it it was so 1980s remember the big ads between them and tennents, no one drinks them now in cans they are crap. ah the 80s in scotland crap beer which we all drank because of this ad,

  • Beautiful Advert !

There was a sister advert for McEwans Lager at the same time. It shows a man and a woman in some sort of spy killing scene at a train station. The soundtrack to that was Hipsway's The Broken Years. Anyone have a video to that ad please?

  • great ad, but you gotta say the beer was fucking wank.

  • stuff the lager

WHAT AN AWESOME TWO MINUTE EPIC

  • McEwans Lager was a great lager, Certainly up there with Carlsberg, I fear the negative comments are more toward the most succesful team in the world trophy wise regarding said sponsorship, Great upload moosh, Cheers.

  • awesome video, shit beer that sponsored a shit team lmao

  • 80s ads like this...

    <3

  • Great video but not very nice lager.

  • One of my fave ever ads.

  • y cant adverts be like this anymore :(

  • My dad had ladies...beautiful ladies on his beer cans back in the day!!

  • The so called Tennents "Lager Lovelies". :)

  • Great advert, absolutely shite lager though. Like dogs piss!!

Mcewans export is a nice ale though.

  • Excuse me! Could we have our ball back please? ...

  • Ha ha, classic Scotch & Wry! A Hogmany TV gem, Rikki ("Ok Stirlin, oot the car!") Fulton & the gang, definitely an annual highlight.....

    Gaun yersel George! ;-)

  • Hahahaha! Cheers ma man . Rikki is truly a ledgend ;)

  • the mid to late 80s was whan mcewans and tennants made all their big tv ads they were like mini films i remember they were on tv all the time back then. in scotland it was the only beer sold in pubs i think

  • absolutely excellent blast from the past

  • Even the best advertising in the world could not sell McEwan's lager - probablly the most disgusting lager in the world, second only to Tennents. . . .

The worst the beer - the more they need advertising.

  • I quite liked Tenants actually. But I also thought that the worst lager in the world happened to be a lil ole' brew called Hampden Lager! Ha! Still, it is still the best advertising. I live in the US now and they have no imagination whatsoever.

  • Lots of negative comments about McEwans Lager here - but I actually quite like it! But Dalgia - you are 100% correct - Hampden Lager is officially the worst lager in the world. :)

  • McEwans is rotten, but Tennents is a great lager. Love it.

  • Would love this for my mobile phone ringtone. Anyone know where you could get the advert 2 minute version to download?

  • Absolute genius. Could easily be released 20 years on and would be among the top ads. Thank you for keeping and sharing this.

  • totally agree wouldnt look out of place on todays tv.....! great video away ahead of its time.....!

  • I think it is a superb advert and a superb short film in of itself. The dystopian world it portrays, with the rag-swathed drudges pushing round giant rocks to power a clock, relates to us all and the grind of our daily lives. The workers look out of their Orwellian prison and see the people in the pub laughing, joking, enjoying life. They are envious. And rightly so! The ad is brilliant because the product is so centrla to it and you can't miss that tis is a McEwan's lager advert.

    Thanks!

  • If I am not mistaken, you have maybe been drinking a fair bit of lager before you developed that thesis!

  • Bloody hell, beer adverts influenced by Albert Camus with allusions to state control (and a subtle critique of the drinking culture). The 80s were indeed cerebral times.

Had a bad memory they'd changed the lyric to "you've got the power to generate beer" but thankfully that's not the case.

Also remember going with my mum to see Chinheads in an Irvine pub at the time the ad was on telly and being very disappointed they weren't actually on their heads drinking pints upside down.

    I was young.

  • ha ha ha ;0

  • Perhaps the Chinheads had hiccups the night you seen them?

  • what about the hipsway one?

  • got the Win album--pity no turntable nowadays

  • The Mcewans 'head to head' video is now on youtube. Type in 'lonegroover', he has it.

  • I have also uploaded the music from this and the other McEwans adverts in CD quality onto youtube. Click on 'thescallywags'.

    (disregard below comments).

  • Ive uploaded the CD version of 'Youve got the power' by Win, which is used on this advert.

    Click on the icon above.

I also have the CD versions for the other 3 McEwans adverts of the time. They are'

    'Tinder' by Hipsway.

'Opposites attract' by Head to Head

'Something so real' by Love Decree.

I can uplaod these if anybody is interested.

  • I have uploaded all four songs from the adverts in CD quality. They are availible on my homepage.

  • kevanhughes i too am looking for that one though i have it on beta but the sounds gone but i do know the song gose its a fact its a fact its a well known fact that sometimes oppisets do attract. we need this advert

  • You, me and everyone else by the look of it .... have got it myself somewhere, amongst the multitude of VHS tapes that I have from the mid 80's - as I recall it's in a break during the 'yoof' programme 'Switch', I remember it, as The Style Council were on ! Must be someone out there who can point us in the right direction ... Please ?

  • This is based on 'The myth of Sysiphus' by french philosopher Albert Camus. It is meant to depict the futility of working lives in a capitalist society.

  • Follow up to that one is them walking (one still carrying keg) and stumble into the Edinburgh Military Tatto; queue bagpipe music etc. Finishing pun "I never knew you had a tattoo Wulie". Pure briliance....

  • does anybody have the Tennants Special ads, the ones with the TWO Blues Brothers, first one I recall must have been around '82 World Cup, Blues Brother guy dives off diving board at Spanish poolside "Esta multo bueno, by the way". Next ad they're playing gowf at night whilst a boring wedding takes place, they gatecrash and swap the barrels for Seventy Shilling and hey presto it's party time, that ad ends with them walking away across gowf course; "Is that heavy", reply "No, Special". Brilliant..

  • Graet record by Win - saw them supporting the Housemartins in Brum in '86 ... cool ! However, looking for another McEwans lager advert tune, it accompanies two boots with human faces fighting ( no, I'm not on drugs !! ) ... the song goes something like ' it's a fact. it;s a fact, its a fact it's a fact. its a well known fact, that sometimes opposites do attract' ... Any ideas ? Please put me out of my misery ....

  • I can't believe it was 20 years ago...they broke the mould when they made this one. I see lots of people mentioning the one with Hipsway's 'Tinder' as the backing music (also a classic) but I can't find it anywhere. Does anyone know how one can get hold of it?

  • try amazon, got a best of hipsway cd quite cheap on there with "tinder" on it.

  • I agree mate, 20 years ago. Where the hell has time gone? lol

  • I had the 12" single of this song. Do you think it'll be available on CD now???

  • It was released on a 3" cd back then. You could only get it if you sent off ring pulls to McEwans.

  • cd is very rare, after a lot of looking i managed to get a 12" version online for just a fiver. just got a usb turntable now so it will soon be on my mp3. :)

  • anyone know the music on this????

  • It's Win - You've Got The Power.

  • cheers squire

  • Win have got a Myspace page, under "freakytrigger"

  • Does anyone know of an advert for Tennents which had "Answer Me" by The Silencers as the soundtrack. The plot involved a man getting an ealry morning taxi to the airpport and as he passes each pub he remembers the god (and sad) times he had in each.

  • "Answer Me" what a great track by a great band. Totally forgot that was in an advert.

  • I was five when this advert was on tv. It is a great ad, pity the beer was mingin!

  • awesome ad takes me back!!

  • YES! I remember this...the best damned advert ever made...the music...the visuals...its like a mixture of 'the equalizer' intro and ridley scott's '1984' apple ad.

  • I can sort of remember that advert with the two heads the song sort of went "its a fact its a fact its a well known fact" thats about it and I'm sure there was a short and a long version of it too

  • Fantastic, my fav advert of all time. It is based on 'The myth of Sisiphus' by Albert Camus.

It is meant to show ceaseless and pointless toil as a metaphor for modern lives spent working at futile jobs in factories and offices.

  • Thanks to who ever posted this, i've been looking for this ad for ages as it used to scare me when I was a little kid and I can remember my mum when they stoped showing this ad claiming she got it banned and told them to put the chins on, she didn't really but when your 4 years old, you are easily fooled.

BTW i'm trying to find the chins one, but I can't find it anywhere

  • yeah i remember bill plymton thank's for saying. Diden't he do a nik naks corn snack advert in the mid 90s

  • does anyone know this song.and who sang it

  • The song is You've Got The Power by Win released in 1986 on London Records

  • Something so real was by Love decree, and the music to the third McEwans ad was Tinder by Hipsway. (The one where the McEwans logo kept popping up in each scene somewhere in the background).

  • Me to i can remember seeing the animation at school in about 1993 on some old tape. And i know exactly what you mean about the album cover. Nice one i forgot about that.

  • I typed in 'two heads animation' it didn't come up but found a rare gem anyway. Have a look at Bill Plympton's when push comes to shove.

  • sorry ment to say the song something so real is actualy from the chin heads mcewans lager ad and is on youtube. the one im on about has a song i think called two opisits.

  • Yeah no you mention it I confused the chinheads track with the two heads one. I remember seeing the original animation that inspired the ad which showed the two heads presenting each other with objects out of their mouths. All I can remember is that it was stop-motion and had a distinct East European feel about it. There's a certain Pink Floyd album cover that always reminds me of it.

  • nice to know someone else remembers it. iv'e looked for it high and low and the closest i got was one of the guys who carved the clays name. you would think we could find some info on the internet

  • I was looking for that one too. I think the soundtrack record was called 'Something so real' but I couldn't find it.

  • great never seen the full version nice one but can you or enyone tell me if they remember or have seen on the net the mc Ewan's lager ad with the two clay heads think its from 1987 got it taped on the beta but the machine is geting old. Thanks again for posting this vid
