cause we got too many distributions .. too many projects to do the same things making open source to be almost always behind proprietary paid solutions. Microsoft , Apple and other jusfocus into a programme and quickly builds it, upgrades it and creates new ideas .. while open source keeps this feeling "it will be better one day".

I think that open source won't really take off till we find real commercial published text in internet showing all the ways companies can make money from it and how to protect its interests .. cause we need the companies to accelerate open source and also we need to show users real interests to change to open source. We need to show the why is it better.

I also would like to say that the strenght of open source is also its weakness sometimes ..

Almost all Open Source sucks, it's mostly good for servers and people who can't afford great tools like Photoshop Elements or CS4 and are forced to use inferior products like Gimp...sigh

Bravo Chris!!! With the Vista on my new laptop, I bit the bullet and install Ubuntu. While running a PC, I have never had a better computing experience. Apple is another story (much better than Linux even). But I do not pay for any software I use and I run a small web design/computer services business and Open Source apps do everything I need to do.

I've been playing around with OpenGL a lot lately. As far as I know that is open source. Absolutely love it. My favorite image tool is Gimp. Right now I'm using Firefox. I also like programming in PHP and Python. Is a life without open source possible? I don't think so.

I'm viewing this from my mepis partition and use my open software all the time, Mepis and pclinux are my favorite versions of desktops. I only boot into xp for games and eventually that will end too.

Net on consoles is nothing new. Dreamcast had it out of the box in '98. Consoles prior to the 90s often had modems for BBS dialing.

Hello idiot. The PS3 is roughly 10 times more powerful than the XBOX 360. The GPU is superior. XBOX 360 has got more games because it has been out since '05. Besides, why buy a PC for about 700 pounds or something, when you can get a far more powerful PS3 for 299? PS3 PWNZ!

For the best experience? I'm sure that's a relative ascertion. The only downside i see to the PS3 is the game base at the moment, should be awesome next year though. I own both, i play the PS3 more just because it's more convinient than having to pay for xbox live, and Unreal owns.

i have a pc thats WAY more powerful than the ps3, and its MUCH better to get a pc than a console. plus the ps3 isnt as good as the 360 except in the processing area. in graphics, the 360 wins. (if u dont believe me go to gamespot and look at their side-by-side images of games on both consoles.) u just got some sand in ur vagina because u dont have any fun games to play on ur ps3, and u dont have a good enough pc to play games.

Those pictures are actually dulled down, and they did not turn on the full GPU power of the PS3, including several graphical options you can select. Now, on your computer. How many cells has it's processor got? What is it's power in GHz? What GPU has it got? What RAM has it got?

i actually have 4gig ddr2 ram, a intel core two duo overclocked to 3.0ghz, and a nvidia 8800ultra. i built it myself and i spent $1,600 american not including monitor, keyboard and mouse (i had those before i built the pc)

Actually that is easily possible. Ubuntu works for the PS3, and 3D graphics? Uhm... what? It IS a games console... it's GPU is far faster, better at performing and better quality than the XBOX 360. The reason that many games look better on the XBOX 36

XBOX 360 than the PS3 is because that the XBOX uses a more traditional way to code games than the PS3. Many developers cannot be bothered getting their workers to learn the new codes, so prefer the XBOX. Which means that most of the games on the XBOX 360 that are also on the PS3, is ported to the PS3. And not very well.

Well, too much intro here about Open Source, well nothing wrong with that. Here is one question for you. I have used open source for web design and some applications on my PC. Only a handful are good but the rest always give me night mare.. "Security update..." bla bla bla bla.. so anything free means, Keep an eye on it all the time.. so what OPEN means to me is, KEEP AN EYE ON IT ALL THE TIME!

One more thing to add it for the people we can afford to release their software open source, more power to them. I also try to release some of my code open source(I have a PHP Frameworks I am working on along with some javascript plugin made based on jQuery I will release open source).

I don't mind spending money on commercial products when the price is not way out there, my most expensive product I have is Visual Studio for C++ since nothing open source compares to its easy use. I also think open source is great when it comes to programming library(SDL, jQuery) but when you start getting into code the does a specific thing and not meant for general use it, then I don't mind paying for it because it takes a lot of time to develop and that person should be paid for his time.

While I love open source, I use apache and PHP and Open Office, I don't think the closed source commercial product are bad. As a Programmer(Professional PHP, Hobby C++), I think closed source is also good. I have generally found that most open source while good, does not compare to commercial(VBulletin blows PhpBB out of the water). One thing I don't like is cost of software. For instance, the unreal engine is like 250,000(maybe 500,000) which is retard but torque is 100-200 which is reasonable

Open source is a great idea, I run open source Asterisk and would recommend it strongly! Keep it open not closed, open source helps technology evolve and people feed off each other. Many other open source applications available.
