There is no disputing the fact that the underlying technologies in KDE 4 take it way ahead of any other Desktop Environment in either Linux, Windows or Mac. I can't wait to see this beauty when 4.2 hits the net.
"KDE is a powerful Free Software graphical desktop environment for Linux and Unix workstations. It combines ease of use, contemporary functionality, and outstanding graphical design with the technological superiority of the Unix operating system." Please visit kde dot org for more information. Hope this is helpful to you.
Kool Desktop Enviroment. 4.0 it's the new version in the works, yet to be released in a few days. But KDE is the default DE in Kubuntu and lots of other linux distros, i presume soon you will be able to have it in other distros as well (mac, windows).
Some KDE applications will be able to run on windows and mac in the not to distant future. But you will need to use either Linux/BSD or Solaris to get the full desktop environment.
Haha, XP did it for me. (To this day, it never ceases to amaze me how many people think XP is so much safer than Vista, after 5 years of "Oh, Microsoft would never do that!" when telling them that XP's license lead me to believe that Vista was coming.)
Nah, distros have been moving to GNOME. SuSE is one example--it used to be a KDE-centric distro, but now they are going GNOME. Mandriva One at least used to offer the GNOME version first too.
Suse is jsut one distro. Its default desktop remains KDE. Vector has moved to XFCE. Mandriva has always included KDE and GNOME and defaults to KDE. PC-BSD, Slax, PCLinuxOS, Kubuntu, Mephis, Pardus, FreeSpire, Xandros, Kanotix, ArkLinux, Sabayon & Knoppix are all KDE distro's. Distro's like Gentoo, Fedora, Slackware, and Debian have defaulted to GNOME for as long as I can remember and offer KDE as well. I don't really see where "distros have been moving to GNOME" has much evidence to support it.
yuck i hate that the icons blink way too fast its much better in 4.3 with the translucent glass splash screen and the blue background

The icons are all different sizes and they blink a bit too fast. Looks nice other than that.
