@jinjanjango How good do you want to be and how much time do you want to spend each day. Looking at this video it looks as though he is repeating finger rhythm interspersing it with something else, a bit like Irish fiddle. So give it a try and see if you can find a local meeting place for support.

@jinjanjango That also depends on what kind of banjo you want to play. For Irish music the short scale tenor banjo is best, the long scale tenor banjo has more power for jazz and ragtime and the plectrum is the most versatile banjo for melodic music. For country music and old time ballads (and bluegrass of course) the 5 string is the instrument of choice. Dig around Youtube for a while and see what appeals to you the most.
