What really pisses me off?... idol worship of football strikers!!! a football team is 11 players, ALL of whom decide the outcome of a football match.

When the "greats" are listed most on the list are strikers... but the very nature of that position is that they simply hit the ball into the net after the rest of the team has done its work. They only have to make a few runs a game while midfielders have to run back and forth the whole match. So unless they are cruyff or maradonna I don't care.

I also have conversations where the likes of Beckenbuar and Moore are mentioned as greats of the game alongside Pele etc. Also in many goals the striker is latching on to a long ball or goal kick or hassling the defenders in to making a bad pass and in these occasions the rest of the team hasn't done a whole lot. If you look at the work rate of Rooney or Kuyt it would be hard to call strikers lazy!
