Yep. In 10 years though this will seem like stone age technology. We'll have entire interactive walls, floors, ceilings etc. everything in your home and office is going to be touch screen interactive.
@mesofius Ha, you say that now, but think, in the 70's they thought we would have super robots, that would turn against us and "Terminate" us, in 2013 or 2014, but look where we are now XD
@TheMissedOfficial Nobody intelligent thought that. People that predicted exponential growth of computing power were right on track and still are. There are many illegitimate boring predictions about stupid flying cars and at the same time we can make some pretty accurate predictions knowing where the cutting edge technology is headed nowadays.
@mesofius Well, we sort of can. However, sudden breakthroughs tend to shift the direction of technological development radically. Everyone though lighter-than-air vehicles were the future, until planes. People thought nuclear power would be ubiquitous and cheap, until we found out how dangerous it was. And the computer came out of nowhere and totally f@cked up everyone's ideas about how the future would look. Nobody ever guesses right (on purpose) when it comes to technology.
@RincewindsHat66 Most futurists made some pretty accurate predictions. Technology is one area that is predictable. Google-up Ray Kurzweil for more information.
@mesofius Kurzweil indeed made many sound predictions that ended up coming true (more or less), but I'm not talking about short-term trends, I'm talking about invention. It's largely impossible to predict what the world will look like 50 years or more because you can't predict when scientific breakthroughs will occur. Absolutely nobody could have predicted atomic power before the discovery of the atom, or gene-splicing before the discovery of DNA.
@RincewindsHat66 Yes, you can't predict inventions and breakthroughs. But you can predict where current cutting edge technologies breakthroughs will lead. For instance, we know that the efficiency of solar panels is consistently rising while its costs are plummeting. We can calculate, using current trends, that in 10 years solar energy is going to equal in cost that of oil and then will become cheaper than oil. This is a prediction that will come true.
@RincewindsHat66 Another example: electronic/interactive paper is being intensively researched by various companies right now, we know that it's possible, there are prototypes but they are just not convenient enough yet. We can easily predict that in the future e-paper is going to be ubiquitous. Think interactive newspapers that you only buy once in your life or changing wallpaper. This is all going to happen in a decade or so. We can't predict what new inventions will come out of it though.
knew it would happen...people are sick of TEENSY touch apps...now even Old folks can use touchscreens!!
