I will agree with that assessment of Neil. Also, I will add that he is one of the worst players to ever hit the ice. He is useless as far as I am concerned. All he does is get opposing teams riled up so they want to win even more. He can't play defense, he has little to no offensive talent.I have no idea why Ottawa has not gotten rid of him yet.Surely they have better players in the minors. well as a leafs fan; I love that fact that are team is finally younger then its previous years rosters, they are faster and have more grit and determination then i've seen in that past 3 years. The thing is dislike about them is there are certain players (most of them) who can't bury the puck when it matters. Hence all the shootout losses.

Steve on a scientific point of view the team is NOT better than last year. In fact last years players should have done better than this year's team. The mathematical linear value of the team is lower while in reconstruction. But the value of the investment is better on a normal time line.

But this year with less we have synergy. Synergy is very fragile because it stands on mutual confidence players - coach and players - players. This is what les boys call : the force of the mental in hockey.

They outshot teams 254-227, (31.75 shots/game and 28.375 shots against/game). The last 3 games their shots are 113-73 (37.6 shots for/game to 24.3 shots against/game).

They given up 22 GA or a 2.75 GAA and have 18 GF or 2.25 GPG this season.

In the last 5 games, they have 9 GF (1.8 GPG) and 8 GA (1.6 GAA).

VERY IMPORTANT: I do NOT take into account the extra goal awarded to the team that won in the shootout. So up until the end of the overtime each game.

I love this team so much more than last year's. What I love, like you said, they don't take crap. They're bigger, tougher, and will show you what's what if you mess with them. Last year they were too soft, and it was basically the Mats Sundin show. They had NO other players worth mentioning. Now they have decent scoring and size and better coaching and defence. Imagine if Sundin did come back to the Leafs (but of course he won't).

the best thing about this year's team is that they dont have that "we're supposed to lose, so wtvr" look on their faces that the veterans from last year had (mccabe, tucker, blake, raycroft). we dont have the talent yet, but the young'ns just dont give up. thats all we can ask for from the players as fans.

now we can always ask the gm to spend that 8.5 mil in cap space on a new superstar so we can have that high-end skill...but i like where this team's headed.
