  • Sounds like My Bloody Valentine

  • I love this band from across the pond. Thanks guys for your great music.

  • The Darling Buds squish the Primitives. As if making jolly good pop records were a competition. (It isn't.)

  • Comment removed

  • Eh, I do enjoy the pop culture of it, but maybe The Primitives or Transition Vamp would fancy me better.

  • So who came first, The Primitives or this band?

  • @thebigsee The Primitives started in '85, and the Darling Buds in '86, so depending when in '85 and '86 they started, I just don't know the official dates, so the Prims could be anywhere from a year or so older or only by a few months over the Buds.

  • What a fantastic song, still love this group and always will. Was this song ever released? It's the only song of theirs i can't get hold of anywhere......

  • Only a single. There's a version of it on the re-release of Pop Said which you can get on Amazon

  • Me tooo...!!!!

  • Hey Guys you really should consider reforming! If the Prims and MBV can do it... ;-)

  • there's a girl at my college I know and her unlce is the guitarist :D

  • I started off loving The Primitives, then I moved on to loving the Darling Buds. Even now, 20 years on, I still don't which band I loved the most.

  • I remember when this came out. Yeah they were a great band, their early stuff like this hasn't dated at all. I think they got kind of lost when they strayed into major label territory...

Does anyone know if Viv Albertine directed this video?

  • Saw them at The Majastic in Reading 1987 ish, she is so small. Lovely looking girl.

  • i used to go there on Sunday nights back in 1986/87, do remember a band at the time called the Gathering?

  • I was at that gig - still, looking back they were a bit shit!

  • They were so so so so good it makes my eyes hurt to watch. I have fond recollections of them playing kids TV shows.

  • Give whoever posted this a knighthood or even a sainthood. Sublime powerpop from '88 (I think) ..... enjoy enjoy enjoy!!!

  • Who invited Johnny Depp!?

It really looks like him, 0:22

I adore this song, regardless :)

  • i love them... my favorite songs are "so close" and "tiny machine" :)

  • OMG it doesn't even look like Andrea

she's my drama teacher too (:

  • Do you go to cast?

Caerleon, Rougemoent or 1 of the Cardiffs?

Cos I go to Cast and Andrea is my teacher too :)

  • Is she still nice looking. Opps !! sorry had to ask?

  • i know the lead singer :)

    lol

  • They were crushed under the wheels of the baggy bandwagon . My brother bought one of their late singles 'Tiny machine' it was shite.

  • You mad. I <3 Tiny Machine, it's one of my favourite Darling Buds songs.

  • si lla los as leido copia y pega esto en 5 videos mas o tu madre morirá en 3 dias, hacedlo por fabor mi a mi amigo le paso, yo lo e hecho pa que no me pase, por fabor acedme caso. esto es una maldicioooooon

  • Andrea Lewis = blonde babe-alicious!!

The DB's were just before the whole 'Madchester' scene of 1989/90 and had been labelled (by the NME, mainly) as being a 'blonde' band.

They should have had their moment, like The Primitives but Tracy Tracy (and her peroxided squeak) seemed to steal the limelight.

  • dBs rule. Great comment.

  • They were killed by The Primitives.

  • LOVED (and still love) the Darling Buds

  • I never understood why they didn't quite make it. They had great tunes, they had a cute singer but they didn't quite catch fire. Maybe it's because England was all Manchestered up and if you didn't look like you had a bunch of Es in either your pockets or bloodstream people didn't want to know. Shame.

  • where does she teach drama?!

  • Wales, shes my teacher too Twm ;)

  • son los putos fresones rebeldes..

  • miss beautiful and the boys; love them

  • My Dad provided the frosted glass in this video sequence.

  • Can you believe that this was twenty years ago! It seems like it was just yesterday when this came out.

  • What a great drummer. Never seen such lack of co-ordination.

  • you're looking at the drummer?! :)

there's blonder things to be looking at ;)

  • People should appreciate this band stands up in its own right!!

I love just about every tune they have pushed out..i cant say that about blondie , the prims, TV vamp etc.

This band is easy as good if not better that all of the above.

And of course Andrea is gorgeous....

  • Wow! You prefer THIS to Blondie???

I went to drama school with Andrea and agree she is gorgeous and a very nice though.

  • oh my that IS ANDREA.

christ. i didn't think it was her. she was my drama teacher.

  • Twee pop with a psychobilly image?!!?!?!?!

  • andrea is my drama teacher if u live in cardiff or newport just go to the childrens academy of stage trainig n she teaches there by the way she just had a baby boy called noah!

  • Tracy Cattell > Andrea Lewis

    :)

  • PS Did I mention I think Andrea is utterly, totally beautiful??? Oh I did! Sorry!! xx

  • This is fantastic! I sort of missed them back in the late 1980s and I'm well miffed about that...the music is so catchy and I cant stop singing it...my partner moamed about it at first but now she's humming it all the time as well!

As for Andrea, what a goddess! I am in love with her!

  • This is shit isn't it? She is fit though.

  • Oh do shut up. I agree with her being cute, though!

  • Just cos you don't like it doesn't mean others won't! Andrea is amazing! She's been my drama teacher for five years now and her voice is still in tact. =]

  • bloody hell. i'm running back to the notting hill music + video exchange fast.

  • I love The Darling Buds! Thanks for posting the videos!!

  • i liked the video with andrea on satin sheets.

  • One of the better bands of the late 80s (when most music was dire!)...Very underated. As good if not better IMO than Primatives/Transvision Vamp

  • WENDY JAMES!!

  • Eh. Both bands are welcome in my CD player any day of the week. I just wish they'd both had the chance to crank out more music.

  • poor mans primitives

  • Definitely better than them!!!

  • lol if you're going to say something like that, you could say they are the poor man's Blondie. I love the darling buds :)

  • Well they are a poor man's poor man's Blondie.

  • They are miles better than that silly New York Disco Band! This is proper guitar indie pop....and give me beautiful Andrea over poor old Deb any day!!

  • @AjaxSalamis I think it's very SILLY to call Blondie "that silly New York Disco Band" cuz first of all Blondie is not disco. I don't understand why people have to diss one band so much in praising another. Both Darling Buds and Blondie are great bands with similarities and DB has mentioned that they looked up to Blondie. I'm pretty sure about one thing though if DB could trade catalogs with Blondie they would in a hearbeat!

  • Hello what a great band there must be more fans out there from the past whos still got the hair cut? Darling Buds fan forever!!!

  • Great band and this was their best single..

  • Saw them at The Majestic, Reading in 1987 bring's back good memories.I stood next to the lead singer at the bar she was about 4ft nothing bless her.

  • 'if i said' was their best single.......lol.

  • Definitively one of my favourite bands... forever !!!

  • haha wow thats painful

  • Awesome, haven't heard of this band before actually.. anyone have anything by The Hummingbirds from Australia?

  • Love it.

  • Thank you so much for posting! DO you have any performances of Burst?

  • I don't remember watching this 8 months ago! LOL My goodness, the memories!!!

  • I LOVE this song and vid. Good quality. Thanks.

  • what about tiny mabhine? Love that one!

  • Brilliant! A true gem of a blast from the past.

  • Really enjoyed this, do you have let's go round there?

  • Hi, glad you like it, haven't got let's go round there yet but looking all the time. I have hit the ground on video from TOTP which I hope to add soon, Regards Jason

  • Hi poppyjet, I've got a copy of Lets go Round There, lifted from the Chart Show on VHS somewhere, along with a load of other top tunes I'm currently transfering these to DVD in my spare moments, and I hope to upload some asap. Watch this space for real gems from the Primitives ,We are Going to Eat You, The Sundays, Soup Dragons, D/Buds , Dinosaur Jr, and a few others. If you hear of anyone who has any Popguns or Flatmates footage of any kind, Perlease point them in my direction.

  • Can't wait, thanks for contacting me, look forward too the videos.

  • @poppyjet
