  • Nancy Wilson, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Rosemary Clooney, Shirley Horn, Peggy Lee.

Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Joe Williams, Steve Lawrence, Sammy Davis Jr., Dean Martin, Jack Jones, Andy Williams, Johnny Mathis.....IF YOU WANT TO LEARN TO BE A GOOD SINGER.....THAT IS WHO YOU HAVE TO LISTEN TO.

  • A Classy Lady

  • in my book you could sing anything what a pity we dont see you here

    at all.

may you continue and bless with the great voice always

  • I heard that lovely voice and viewed that lovely face back in 1963 and I've loved her down through the years.Mr's Wilson you are the very best.

  • Nancy sings about everything that's in my heart, since that Cannonball album, I've followed her all through that amazing musical life she's had, an artist that has no peer in my opinion. She has taken something from everyone, but has the maturity and class to acknowledge them at every opportunity, rather than pretending everything came from herself.

  • From: Molino3 Bacoor Cavite: Juliet Euraoba Lozano I love that song very much....

  • Growing up on the remarkable great jazz voices is a gift I unwrap everyday! Nancy Wilson Joe Williams Little Jimmy Scott Sarah Vaughn Ella Fitzgerald Dinah Washington Nat King Cole Nina Simone Louie Armstrong Harry Belafonte - I love you all!!!!!

  • Wonderful...no more words to that.

She and carmen mcrae are the best.

  • Nancy Wilson's photo should illustrate the word CLASSY in the dictionary! I've loved her since I was 9 years old and my parents played her albums. Her voice takes me back to the happiest times of my life in Alameda, CA with Daddy, Mama and my sister Vickie. (Sorry Dee-Dee you had yet to be born! ; )

  • She was absolutely one of a kind.

  • 1963,Ft Meade,Md the first time I heard that wonderful voice.God bless you Nancy you're the best.

  • You don't hear this beautiful music on the UK radio any more. It's all pop crap & boom-boom rap. Bring back proper music with a melody you can listen to and lyrics you can understand!!!

  • I adore Nancy Wilson & thank all for the kindness in posting her music.Trouble is we need some more of her smooth elegance. There is a wonderful album called "With my Lover Beside Me."..A compilation of Manilow- Mercer Songs (i know, I thought so too)This is a true wonder. Can anyone help?

  • Hello Ms Nancy Wilson.I know you remember Betty Sue Cornelius from columbus .ohio . you two were good friends in the day.. Well I have some sad news to tell you Mrs Rose Cornelius (bettysue's mother) has past.. I just thought you would want to know that being that you all were good friends back in the day..

  • My all time favorite version of this song. When will someone do her life story. Long live the smooth one Nancy Wilson.

  • love you dearly Nancy.....The first time I heard you was as a child. I would listen to your beautiful songs while peering out the window on the days my Mom would deep clean the house. You took me to countries and places that were beautiful with this awesome music. And here I am today after 40 years and still loving you my sister. God bless you for all you gave us..... Especially a little Black Girl in Harlem of the 50's We love you....

  • When I was 13 every year we would travel on vacation eveywhere and listen to Teena Marie, Marvin Gaye, Earth Wind & Fire, Luther Vandross, Nat King Cole, Michael, Whitney Houston, Etta James, Patti Labelle, Anita Baker, Sade and NANCY. Me my brother and sister would be sitting in the van Wondering who SHE was we didn't Understand the BRILLIANCE in her VOICE but over Time Lady GREW on us Im So THANKFUL for this Musical GODDESS that was 21 years ago and still Today I Remember Those best of times.

  • So beautiful....

  • Sung by the incomparable Nancy Wilson, "The Very Thought of You" resonates with a level of emotion seldom heard today; a true example of talent, refinement and class.

  • @lucasboyd1 Nancy is exceptional!! It is actually quite sad that Divas like Nancy, Sarah, Ella, Roberta etc are nowhere to be found nowadays. Celine Dion is I think the closest we can get...

  • I have been listing to Nancy Wilson since I was 14 years...and still today!!!

  • Nancy Wilson ! The Very Thought of You , ( Está Demais, não canso de ouvi-la, parabéns )

    Roberto San / RJ. Brasil.

  • NANCY IS UNTOUCHABLE.~~~~

  • This is one of the finest love songs ever written, and Nancy's crystal voice does it justice. Bravo.

  • I think she sang this song for you, My ancieno, The most forgiving loving and understanding man ever. Nancy reaches into ones inner soul and pulls it out piece by piece and I am so glad she has.

  • Sell my clothes I've gone to heaven. If there is anyone better I don't need to hear them. Miss Wilson is it!

  • Excellent.

  • ...there's Nancy Wilson...and then there's--"Nancy Wilson!"...period...end of discussion....

  • I first heard Nancy Wilson as a child in the 60's and I feel in love with her voice. I tried to copy her sound growing up, but, of course, I never could. Such a beautiful voice!

  • I have most of her LPs. I don't know any other singer who sings the range from ballads to jazz - as Nancy does. Her LP ( fortunately I found the CD) she did with Cannonball Adderly is an oustanding jazz vocal. I wish we in Europe could be able to listen to her programme in the USA where she discusses music. I would ask her how she prepared for each of those great musicians, ranging from David Cavanaugh, George Shearing, Billy May to Cannonball Adderly - and all?

  • This my favorite singer and has been for over 50 years.

  • Florence Gibson....i was 17...i heard this song...and i was in love...

This lady has been singing like this since then...my 61 rotation around the sun...is going great..and i remember this tune.....

  • The guy playing the guitar on the verse has done a perfect job. Any one know who he is?

  • Oh classy Nancy, we fell asleep every night listening to you in the dorm. You can travel from Cali to NYC without a breath. You are not one of the finest Lady...you are simply the finest! Thank you for many, many days and nights of perfect songs.

  • AND, the great instincts to have those around her who can create and execute such orchestrations and arrangements like this!

    Larry

  • you are the best ever

  • killer!

  • What a sexy set of vocals!

  • Very underestimated singer. A great natural voice singing a great song.

  • Nancy is the greatest!!!!!

  • "Fantastica " Voz Brilhante...

  • @MaripozaM I agree wholeheartedly.

    Cathie

  • @cathytreks I thought you'ds like her Cathie!

  • What a Jazzy rainy night~

  • great Nancy ..such sweet version...

  • WOW - A Different Time - Beautiful - Thank You !!!

  • Besides Streisand, my fav - always has been. Celine et al, can't even touch her.

  • Isn't she amazing!? Another favorite of her songs is The Christmas Waltz. Don't know if it's on YouTube. I'll have to check. She is fabulous!

  • I listen to lots of versions on youtube to see what different artists do with a song. There are many fine versions. Nat King Cole is expressing sentiment, Nancy Wilson is expressing hunger and sexual passion. When she sings, "the mere idea of you," I feel as though she is seducing me, the listener as she would her lover. Each of the great artists has their strengths and I give them their due, but I would have to say this is my favorite version I've heard.

  • it do not,get any better,

  • nice song

  • OMG! This song can still raise the hair on my arms and I can still remember when it first came out. Thanks for posting!

  • Ella Fitzgerald and Nat King Cole versions are brilliant, take a look

  • 2-20-2010. Happy Birthday, Nancy. You will be one of the all-time greats. Many happy returns.

  • I love NKC version, the voice and the arrangement are brilliant

  • Wonderful.....what a sound..solid.....havent heard in years. I follow her for many years then ....loss.The maturity of her voice is powerful........thanks for posting I have been a fan for years . Appreciate it

  • What an incredibly gifted singer! She does wonder with this song; one of may all time favorite romantic ballads. THANKS for posting it! You've got my New Year off to a delightful start! :)

  • nancy wilson is the best ever mood singer...a glass of wine...moonlight...a reflection of a lover past or present....all comes to mind when i hear her voice.

  • This is great music. During my teenage years, this was the kind of music I enjoyed so much! 20 years later and it still holds great power over its listeners. Great music!

  • @Trickysquaw yea and a big bag of ganja vape !;P

  • @Trickysquaw Excuse me, but I disagree with you. Nancy Wilson is the greatest American pop singer who ever lived, for her endless ways of inventing a song, for her insatiable curiosity about all forms of music, and for her consummate musicianship, which no one, not even Sarah Vaughn or Lena Horne could ever have hoped to approach. She's an "all-in-one" artist, meaning she uses every musical tool available to her to get the message across, and for that she is unforgettable, if not immortal.

  • @sillyboydeux

Nancy is a more of a "pop" singer and it is hard to compare across another genre by comparing her to the likes of Sarah Vaughn, one of the greatest :jazz' singers. Lena faded early and was never the singer that she was in the 40s for most of the last 40 years of her career.

  • @Trickysquaw You're right, she's the best! I first heard her voice back when I was in college decades ago. There's nobody like her!

  • She has aged so nicely. Wonderful song.

  • Is it not interesting how a song can capture and transmit feelings so deep -- feelings that we often forget or don't remember to communicate to the special people in our lives. A song like this one reminds us of the importance of LOVE, LIFE and RELATIONSHIPS.

  • "i don't need your photograph...your picture is always in my head"

    A song for my flower.

and may she be happy as a queen.

My queen. The very thought of you...my love.

    J.G.

  • She's still "Nancy The Baby...." (Sid McCoy WCFL) My dreams revisited....

  • no no...non ci sono parole..meravigliosa!!

  • Fantastic vocal. However, the 'noisy ' strings and backing adds nothing and actually detracts imho.

  • The only word that comes to mind is: stunning.

  • It's ridiculous how great her voice is. The arrangement does it justice! Love it.

  • I can't get through this song without crying .. lol GOD it's beautiful... sigh

  • Wow, perfection right there.

  • ...i love you gracie...

  • You know when you get something so Tasty you cant stop Eating or Drinking it? This is how I define this cut . This will be the 5th time listening so far WOW!!

  • Oh yes....I listen to this at least once a week...

  • Simply Golden! She is a Diva to the max.

  • MY LORD, how beautifu! This was my first dance song at my wedding 9 yrs ago. We used Nat King Cole's version, but everytime I hear it, I cry, weep. One time my sweetie and I had pulled up to a restaurant for breakfast and this song unexpectantly came on the car radio, I just broke down and cried. It's funny prior to my wedding I had not really heard this song. Almost picked another song by Cole, That Sunday, that Summer, another lovely tune.

  • What did you have for breakfast?

  • God sent...makes you want to fall in love again, and again...

  • Nancy Wilson is the greatest Jazz songstylist alive today. She still has the vocals, class, style, and grace of a legendary fabulous singer.

  • It's very simple. Nancy Wilson is simply THE GREATEST jazz singer EVER!!! I've seen her live many times and she has always been stunningly AMAZING! Granted, Sarah Vaughn and Ella Fitgerald in particular both gave Nancy a run for her money... But for sheer class, sexiness and gorgeous and sophisticated vocal phrasing, in my book anyways, Nancy Wilson is and always shall be THE EPITOME of a Jazz Singer. God Bless you Nancy... I consider myself blessed to have witnessed your mastery and grace!

  • Nancy's image at 1:04 stops time for me.

  • Sing it, Nancy!

  • Time to get back to the Blue Note,

I miss melodic treats like this.

  • It would be nice if there were some female singer(s) today that could sound half this good singing a long ago ballad. Sadly, there are none in this era who come close to this type of singing sophistication. Thanks you very much for posting.
