I think it is possible to have a national identity of being Basque and still live in a federal Spain. In the UK Welsh Scots and English still have national identities but economically are better as a United Kingdom as long as the wishes of the people are respected

I agree- As long as the Basque culture and language can exist and thrive why not have a big country like Spain to govern and protect you. Bottom line - keep the Basque people free and living their life. The Modern Spain allows the Basque region to be autonomous. If the Basque region was on it's own - would it be as prosperous in these hard economic times? Hard to say but I'm just glad that there is a special place that is the Basque Country.

I can only say that independence can come about for any region if its economically viable, and a vast majority of people want it. I personally would support you, only because I have little patience for the French and Spanish Governments. @firtc Cuando hice referencia a la Guerra de Sucesión me refería a que Cataluña simepre ha funcionado como una nación, aunque por desgracia muchas veces oprimida (como otras naciones del mundo) . "si mi país me traicionara", no entiendo muy bien esa frase lo siento. The Gas and Oil profits were squandered by thatcher but the upside was tha tthe local economies and service providers to the Gas and Oil companies in the North Sea boomed in the 70s , 80s and 90s and continue to do so today. Multi national companies put the infa structure to extract the black stuff and many , many scots had good employment from this.

I have Basque tendancies. Some nights I wake up in a sweat and reach for the bedside sherry. My wife is a Basque girl, ginger hair, white ribbon. She loves me but would kill me for the love of her home town Port bou. We run a small leather kiosk outside the station there, afternoons drinking sherry, watching the sun dazzle the horns of the bar cleaners opening their presents on the sand.

There was a theory a long time ago that said that Basque was related to bereber (and to many other language families), but it has been proven that Basque has no relation to any other languages that we know today. It is the only remnant of an antique family of languages that was anciently spoken in Europe, before the indoeuropean languages arrived. It is the oldest language in Europe, a remnant of old European languages.

I think it is possible to have a national identity of being Basque and still live in a federal Spain. In the UK Welsh Scots and English still have national identities but economically are better as a United Kingdom as long as the wishes of the people are respected

Your'e correct, Cornish language is a Celtic language. It was died out in the 18th century, revived later in the 20th century.

I agree- As long as the Basque culture and language can exist and thrive why not have a big country like Spain to govern and protect you. Bottom line - keep the Basque people free and living their life. The Modern Spain allows the Basque region to be autonomous. If the Basque region was on it's own - would it be as prosperous in these hard economic times? Hard to say but I'm just glad that there is a special place that is the Basque Country.

@ekaitza13 los vascos no odian a su propio país (España). Sólo hay que ver lo que pasó tras el gol de Iniesta. 30 años de PNV han hecho mucho... pero no creo que sirva para romper el país. Yo personalmente he de decir que me siento un poco vasco aunque sea de Madrid, ya que soy del Athletic. Por eso me daría muchísima pena que Euskadi dejase de ser España algún día. Y como yo piensa muchísima gente.

I can only say that independence can come about for any region if its economically viable, and a vast majority of people want it. I personally would support you, only because I have little patience for the French and Spanish Governments. However, studying the 'cousin' you could call it, Northern Ireland, economic factors pose more of a difficulty than governmental.
