Does anybody else feel sorry for someone who built his career on being a doucebag? I mean, if he ever wants to stop being a douchebag, has to give up being fallout boy for James Dobson.
Pick one the Bible or the Constitution. The guy just wants to be dictator thats all and doesn't understand freedom or even wants to ...dumb hillbilly.
Oh, how much I hate this idiot Tony fuck head Perkins, this dirt bag and his kind are searching for a moral justification for selfishness, which is based on lies, how unfortunate that some families believe him and teach there children the same B.S
A conservative is a man with two perfectly good legs who, however, has never learned how to walk forward. ~Franklin D. Roosevelt, how true was that? go die already Tony.
Machiavelli wrote the hand book on using religion for political power 500 years ago with "The Prince".
Nothing much has really changed. Tony Perkins & the rest of the American Religious Right are simply today's ugly and nasty incarnation of the phenomenon.
All to often, conservatives blow their compassionate cover with acidic remarks and veiled threats like the skunk comment in this video. Don't be fooled. They will be among the first to justify violence and even death to remove observed threats like Obama to their agenda. Calls of 'nigger', and 'kill him' don't come from the liberal side. It always seems to be the conservatives that sanction violence to serve their cause.
Actually, I've noticed that liberals get really angry when blacks don't vote the way they think blacks should vote. And they will call a person nigger if they dare vote republican. Have you noticed this?
HNK222, wow a new level to which the broad based, alleged non-narrow, 'hate is not a family value' crowd will sink in debate. This is extremely hateful, guilt by the remotest of associations... Johnlorican, my experience with reading Sojourners and chatting with members is the same. They are oh so pro-life but none I know have ever endorsed an anti-abortion candidate. When you hear the charge of narrow and hate and partisan...watch closely for which is which and who's who.
1jbw, you don't seem to deny the veracity of what HNK222 affirms--you just focus on the expletive. Jesus didn´t mince words, either, when faced with hypocrisy, as you know--love for neighbor means confronting him/her sometimes.
Why do people keep giving Tony Perkins, an avowed white supremacist, a platform? Every time he speaks, people should be reminded that he was a speaker at the Louisiana chapter of the Council of Conservative Citizens (one of the United States' most prominent White Supremacist organizations), and in 1996 he paid former Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizard David Duke $82,000 for his mailing list. This guy is lower than rat sh*t!
I used to read 'Sojourners' magazine over twenty years ago when I was in my twenties. Even then, 'Sojourners,' month after month, seemed to exist only to critique (and attack) conservative Christianity and plant its feet in a secular orthodoxy with an ecumenical religious veneer; I just got tired of the 'conservative-bashing' and stopped reading it in 1985.
I don't think you can describe Sojourners' rooting as "secular orthodoxy." All their messages are really grounded in scripture and the teachings of Christ, which emphasize a multitude of social concerns. Their critique is not necessarily of conservative Christianity, but rather of Christianity that is preoccupied with the Culture Wars and privileges conservative ideology over scripture.
When I read 'Sojourner' twenty years ago, they were pro-choice, endorsed the most strident feminist principles, were 'anti-war' (meaning only that the U.S. should unilaterally disarm), etc. My assumption is that hasn't changed much. If you could show me a position they have that is NOT held by our most secular of brethren, I'd really like to know...
What an odd barometer. Jesus decries social injustice, a position held by most of my secular brothers (and sisters) on the left. What does that make him? Christian conservative is an oxymoron.
First, we have to define 'social injustice'- what is truly meant by that term? From my readings of 'Sojourners,' much of it is simply the redistribution of wealth through taxation - a concept that is part and parcel of the secular left. Please show me in scripture where Jesus favored this ethic.
"Whatever you did to these, the least of my brothers, that you did unto me." (Mt 25) Tax breaks for the rich contradict this teaching, while state support for ending poverty responds faithfully to this teaching.
Forcible redistribution of wealth via state and federal taxation supports this scripture? Come on...
'Poverty eradiction' programs (welfare, etc.) have shown to do nothing but keep people poor while destroying families in the process by disincentivizing work and the esteem it provides.
I don't think it's either-or, but a concerted expression of Christian values at both state and faith-community levels. Why keep the state from acting more justly, and working for the common good? Christian values are not just for private individual efforts, but for every sphere of social life--including the values of Mt 25.
My liberal friends and neighbors cry 'separation of church and state' when you try to integrate Christian values or faith-based initiatives into public discourse or taxation - but they freely want to 'tax the rich' for every societal problem or for their perception of the 'common good'...ludicrous if you ask me...
Many liberal Christians want to 'tax the rich' using religion (appealing to Biblical scriptures to help the poor as their underpinning)...so, yes, it does relate to religion by some.
Tony Perkins is deeply closeted. It's not even subtle.

Up Tony Perkin's ass. He's a goddamned white supremicist, and I hope it's another Christian that puts the knife to his stinking throat.
