  • A-JOB-FOR-A-JOB. Friday, December 30, 2011 (Common People Eternity), 12:00 PM - NOON (Eastern Standard Time)

  • The Walker Brothers were one of the first live performances on this show. They are singing live and this is a lower key than the original recording. They would have had to. Scott's voice wasn't high enough to do the lead in the song's chorus. So in the studio version....John sang the melody from the hook...and Scott sang harmony during the chorus. Since this was live...they laid down the track in a lower key so Scott would be able to stay with the melody all the way thru.

  • @ 2:13 Looks like Jim Morrison

  • ich liebe dieses lied..... :)

  • Just awesome. Amazing how so many people used to make it big without Simon Cowel to give them his stamp of approval.

  • Which of the two singers is John?

  • @kgradwelll John is the one wearing dark, he played guitar as well, He died lately.

Scott is the star (=solo) singer, he also played bassguitar in the group. The third one, Gary (the drummer) is missing here, don't know why.

  • What s great record, wish I knew more about this group.

    12-5-11

  • The God-like genius of Scott Engle Walker. Loved him then and now.

  • There aren't nearly enough live videos of Scott Walker. This one would probably be the best if not for the awesome Mathilde performance from Dusty Springfield's show.

  • What a voice and talents... RIP John Incredible bio on web

  • Yikes, the lead singer was hot. I never saw pictures of any of them before.

  • Just discovered this band and I'm a bit freaked out by how similar one of them is to my favourite singer Jim Morrison

  • Young faces and voices lost in time.....please come back....because the sun isn't shining anymore.

  • I like the big strong voices like this. I think anymore all they care about is who looks good on TV, magazines, videos, more of a visual thing.

  • good looking bastard!

  • why did the music of this era fall from such greatness class and elagance to the gutter trash it is now. Also the 70,s and 80,s what hhappened to it such a pity and shame from what it once was/ To the filthy rapping noise now and whimming country music.

  • @sophie1065 I hear ya sophie....my sentiments too.

  • Scott Engel is the lead singer, amazing voice, one in a billion.

  • @Winsfordsubwayarmy Yeah, great pipes, this was the end of an era when a few pop acts could really sing!!!!

  • Ah, they were using the then new sure SM57 Microphones, first sold in 1965.

  • Love the emotion of this beautiful, sad song. Rest in peace, John Walker

  • Die young and leave a beautiful body.

  • @Wawasawhe "die young huh?" what an idiot, miss out on life...huh?....please be my guest.

  • R.I.P John

We will all miss you, thanks for great music.

  • @boytomljusdal Can you tell me John's full name and how he passed away. John is the lead singer in this video right ? He's from my era, I am deeply sadened.

  • @FOXFIRECOMD1 I think it was some kind of cancer.

  • @boytomljusdal I read from another site it was liver cancer at the age of 67. RIP John

  • @FOXFIRECOMD1 no Scott is the lead singer for this song

  • John's voice was off the charts good.

  • RIP John

Thank you for the songs, muisc and the voice you will be missed

  • Fantastic Song. The moment when the tambourine starts...!

  • rest in peace loved your music

  • Batsihtcool good stuff 

  • Batsihtcool

    Good stuff 

  • HOLY SHIT! I can't believe the Walker Bros. pull this song off live! For you none-musicians who may not have an appreciation, this is an amazing feet and takes an incredible amount of talent to achieve.

  • @franticamber And here I thought they did stuff to his voice to make that deep echo.

  • @franticamber

I don't think they are singing it live. but syncing it. At least there cannot possibly be a full orchestra in the RSG studio.I may be wrong though, in which case I agree with what you say. Just wonderful. he was the epitome of cool.

  • I admit that I'm not sure about the orchestra, although they stop abruptly at the end of the song which is not how it was originally recorded. However, both Scott & John are definitely singing LIVE! My comment was praising their ABILITY to remain incredibly true to the phenomenal studio version.

  • @DharmaxWay watch is closer. not lipping.

  • I was in the US Army in Germany when this made the charts. Naturally, it was and emotion-grabber - with me having a "Dear John" event and all. This, along with "Make It Easy On Yourself", and a bunch of beer, was good for the "blues". BTW, I had a GF in Amsterdam, so don't feel to sad for me. Almost forgot. The singing? Strong, moving, great harmony. and good accompaniment

  • We used to talk about UFO´s,Hitler, communists etc.

  • Absolutely love this song one of my old time favourites - r.i.p John <3

  • The good looking blond lead singer is Scott Walker. John Walker is the dark haired singer. RIP

  • Quand j'écoutais ce titre pour la première fois, j'avais 12 ans et j'avais des frissons. Ce titre promettait un avenir plein d'amour et de bonheur. I need you... Aujourd'hui, quand j'écoute ce titre, j'ai l' impression d'être toujours la même avec un coeur plein d'espoir, malgré mes expériences et mes déceptions.

  • John W's death jogged my memory about the Walker Bros, whom I first heard when I was about 8 yrs old. Was captivated by Scott's voice then, but now I'm listening to this repeatedly and it's there in my head when i wake up in the morning! I don't think Scott Walker knew/knows what a heady combination he (i.e his superb voice and lovely innocent looks) makes when joined with such fantastic orchestration, melody and lyrics. Haunting & heavenly. Thanks to all of them...and to God for Scott's voice.

  • I have always loved their songs! Was a huge fan in the 60´s. John Walker, RIP!

  • Can't believe John has died. I only started watching videos of them a couple of weeks ago after 45 years since seeing them at my first ever concert live at Douglas Isle of Man- with my friend Myra (we were both 17 and on holiday.) I 'll never forget the impact their voices had on me, not counting their good looks. R.I.P. John.

  • We'll miss you John. Thanx 4 the great music. Rest in peace.......

  • 05/10/11 ... A great voice is silenced! R.I.P.

  • Poor Gary Walker hiding in the back behind the drums.

    What a great song.

  • They were so good in the 60's

    RIP John

  • R.I.P. John Walker, 1943 - 2011.

  • RIP John Walker xox

  • R.I.P Johnny. One of the best singers at the 60´s. Great voice. We never forget you

  • One of my favorites. I first heard it when I was flying to London and they played it on the armrest. I was like 16. It is still a favorite.

  • R.I.P.

  • Where did this come from!!!! This is my favourite song, and I have never seen this amazing performance before. It has never turned up on any of the Dave Clark RSG tapes released in the 80s. Thanks for posting this!

  • Back when even the bubblegum pop music was great

  • Powerful Fuc..g Breakup Song.Bittersweet memoreis of my youth.

  • they didnt like each other ....they cant be together.in the same room....scott walker said that.....they broke up after that.

  • watched ready steady go faithfully ,was totally in love with scott walker and wanted to marry him, unfortunately being 14 at the time it wasnt an option!!thanks for the wonderful childhood memories........

  • @debidavify .........looking forward to many future memories debadiffity..do u come here often????XOX

  • @MrByrdbath hopefully sooner rather than laterXXXX

  • @MrByrdbath Loving you more and more each day

  • @MrByrdbath who would have believed it !! the start of something very beautiful and it just keeps on growing love you mjmXXXXXXXXXXX

  • I'm looking forward to seeing the Scott Walker: 30 Century Man documentary. I certainly remember this song when it came out... beautiful.

  • Produced by John Franz with music directed by Ivor Raymonde in Uk. Think they also did some work for Dusty Springfield - BIG SOUND. Song was originally a 4Seasons US release. Still some good Walkers comps. around. Moved to UK in '65.

As for me & the song....I need to grab some tissues...sigh.

  • @MrByrdbath do you come here oftenXXXXXXXXXXXXX

  • Walker Brothers were originally from California. Went to UK in early 60's.

  • Phil Spector either wrote or produced the song --- or both.

  • @rinkref1

Sounds like it doesn't it? Scott Engel has been living in Germany for years now.

  • @bloderme

How do you know that? I live in Germany too an it would be great if I´d met him someday :-)

  • Great vocal and great song written by Bob Gaudi of The 4 Seasons

  • ahhh brings back such good memories, miss those loving easy days

  • Beautiful song. They don't make them like this anymore. Such a great time to be a teenager.

  • I love that You Tube enables me to relive the past in many ways. I never really appreciated what an incredible voice Scott Walker had, or that he had a career beyond this song, but I find myself sitting here listening to all of his songs. Terrific!

  • Terrific.

  • Can someone please tell me if "Spector" was envolved with the Walker Brother?

    I love their sound! Memories

  • @Ilvcamusic I was just wondering about the same thing. It sounds like a Spector song. Does anybody know if he was involved in the production? Awesome song and powerful vocals. I am now discovering the Walker Bros.

  • @rameller1 I Too Am Wondering If Spector Had Anything To Do With The Walkers Music. I Rather Doubt it Though Because The Walker Bros. Didn't Record in The States*****

  • Ein klasse Oldie mit Gänsehautfaktor.Die Walker Brothers waren mit ihren Songs

einfach Spitze in den 60. Jahren und sind es auch noch heute. Gute Musik!!

  • Ah - I remember this as if it were only yesterday - these guys has balls.

  • scott engel - you were such a cutie !!! your voice always makes me smile - love ya scott - forever

  • Excellent white soul

  • They were not even brothers ... none of them is a Walker. True

The members of the group were Scott Engel on lead vocals and bass guitar, John Maus on guitar and vocals, and drummer Gary Leeds.

  • They were not even brothers ... none of them is a Walker. True

  • There's so much great stuff going on musically (like the really cool Spectorish bass line, echoed on piano) that it's easy to miss what a really excellent lyric this song has. "Emptiness...It's a place you're in...nothing to lose...but no more to win..." Great song. Did this one start out with the Four Seasons?

  • @SurferJoe1 ~Yes, Frankie Valli did it...written by Bob Gaudio...but the Walkers were definitive due due to the power...

  • Sadly, most modern pop singers don't perform a tenth as good as these gentlemen.

  • Really GREAT voice, GREAT music!!!

  • Yeah that dude can sing!

  • WalkerBrothers懐かしい!!!今聞いてもやっぱりステキ!!!

  • listen to Jesse, his effort from 2006. It is about the death of Elvis Presley's twin-brother who was stillborn. It is an eerie song. The first strums are from Jailhouse Rock, slowed down.

  • @bluekarma Actually, it's about Elvis having a dream about 9/11 (pow, pow) and telling it to Jesse.

  • Ready Steady Go.

  • a million miles from Jesse...poof...poof

  • Beograd 1965. i nezaboravna matinea u Lazarcu!

Bili smo iskljucivi Beatles ili Rolling Stonesi, a ja, ja sam volela bracu Walker i Crvene koralje:)

  • Well Walking Dead fans, its almost time! ENJOY! X)

  • he looks very similar to jim morrison

  • @ohrofax

Yes. I thought the exact same thing.

Actually, chronologically speaking, Jim probably copied Gary Leeds' look. Because the Doors didn't make their debut yet, at the time this was recorded.

But wow, you took the words right out of my mouth, as I thought the same thing.

  • @glaetze All 3 were good-looking corn-fed sexy American lads. Great live version by the way.

  • thats german television or is it??? MDR=Mittel deutscher rundfunk

    anyway great tune

  • @MrLalalalala1980 Yes, that is the channel. It came from a late-night "look back and the news and tunes" show in the 90s called "Leipzigeinundleipzig". They got it, I believe, from a compilation "Beatclub" who got it from "Ready Steady Go!" in the UK.

  • @sambda Was "Spector" involved in this recording and others by the Walker Bros!

Just Amazing..............I forgot how beautiful and sad!!

  • @sambda ready steady go was the fore runner to top of the pops , bit of a mod programme .

  • @MrLalalalala1980 hey i'll ask ze questions

  • Gorgeous vocals on this song....I've always loved the background vocals, too.

  • Great song.....does anyone know what happened to the Walker Brothers? They'd be a great addition to an oldies concert

  • @TheIrishMikeB

John Walker will be here in UK in January 2011, sadly Scott and Gary do not play live now

  • WALKING DEAD

  • @Genlaso SHIT YEAH

  • @Genlaso RIP, John W.

  • RIP John.

  • @Genlaso RIP, John.

  • Not forgetting Gary of course.

  • Scott and John are one of the best duos ever along with the Everly Brothers.

  • Great song and great voices. I'm back in 10th grade!!!! I wish!!!!

  • how many of us danced a slow dance to this when we were in school,a chance to snuggle, good memories,

  • i learned to fly in 1966 and remember going on cross country flights and listening to this fantastic song on the adf radio, wow what memories, thanks for the post

  • This song is almost painful to listen to as it brings back so many memories of that time period that will never be again.

  • This is such a great song!

  • From 25/2/66

  • I like the way Rene Laine is singing this song look Rene Laine 60´s 70´s

  • God, I hope that this is used in The Walking Dead opening credits every week! Great song!

  • this is a masterpiece!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hes a real man

  • The 4 Idiots who dont like this must be Dead from The Neck Upwards

  • i am falling in love with this song, so amazing

  • Yes it is Gary on drums, but didnt play on the disc, under contract to another label

    i believe.

  • This is the Krays song-is the deep shade of blue thats always there the coppers?

  • 1966 Walker Brothers. 2010 Jonas Brothers. Are we heading in the right direction?

  • @euqip Do the Jonas Brothers sound as good as the Walker Brothers? Doubt it.

  • @100orion It was with ironic sadness that I observed the Walker-to-Jonas devolution.

It used to be that the most talented musicians became celebrities. Now one can be a big celebrity without ever displaying any signs of talent. I might be an old fogey but I think musicians should be recognized for their talent not for their looks or bombastic antics.

  • @euqip well said, its just all hype now, the 'reality' shows and varous versions

of so called talent shows, x factor, idol etc are just freak shows,

all front no substance, just large commercial organiszations promoting

the lastest 'flavour of the month' to the what seems to be brainless 16 to 24 hear

    old market,

ps Scott had one of the greatest singing voices of all time, a couple of his songs

are worth all the junk in the charts now

  • @thatwilldonicely I agree with you but then there is Jennifer Hudson who sits with the best.

  • Cool song for The Walking Dead soundtrack.

  • @stuntpea you read the comic?

  • Timeless, Mr. Engle and Co.

  • Take that Jonas Brothers...

  • This masterpiece from 44 years ago is even bettered by this superb live rendition, I cannot get enough of watching it over and over again, the song, in my all time personal top three, is timeless sung to perfection,I loved it as a boy back in ' 66, and still do !.

  • i've just discover it with the Walking Dead incomin series 's trailer , its rocks on a zombie appocalypse, amazing critic song of surviving O_o

  • Great

  • where is the 3rd Group-Member , in This Clip ???
