Who are the gentlemen on the Desk in this TSN video from 1995? This video I believe was around 1995 during the time in May, just around 5 or so months before it was announced the team would officially move to Phoenix, Arizona.
It is great to see the city of Winnipeg back in the NHL, although I hated it that it was the Atlanta Thrashers leaving Georgia's capital city. Yet, I know that already, the new Jets are being treated better and are more appreciated in Manitoba's capital city than they were in Atlanta during their 12 seasons. At least I don't have to see those ugly Atlanta Thrashers uniforms anymore.
I just realized this was uploaded 3 and a half YEARS ago. Congratulations on finally getting your Jets back. Losing a franchise must be the worst fan experience there is.
@MyCrosbyfan87 Because, no one in Winnipeg wanted this team after all of this so, his job was to find an owner, somewhere, anywhere to take this franchise.
Welcome back Winnipeg! Enjoy your stay with us here in the Eastern Conference. Sincerely, a Flyers fan who is happy to see a real market replace a shitty one!
At least Winnepeg came back. However, I would like to see two more teams in Canada, one in Hamilton and the other Quebec City. I think that would be fair of enough. Although I doubt the NHL would ever come to Hamilton as they always had somthing against that city.
A wrong has finally been righted. This Caps fans is glad to see the NHL back in Winnipeg. Now prove the naysayers wrong and fill the place so its successful. Here's hoping Quebec is next!
Well, it looks as if Winnipeg will be getting an NHL team again, whether it's called the Jets or not. And hopefully, we'll see the Nordiques back in Quebec City(in one form or another) very soon.
Im glad Winnipeg is getting a team back......I live in Phoenix and I feel bad that a town who loved their team and supported their team had it ripped from them and worse yet by a city that sees the coyotes as much more than a novelty
im happy to see the pegs with a team again im just sooooo glad its not the coyotes. screw everyone trying to talk shit about the yotes and putting the team down because winnipeg couldnt afford there team! yotes are a threat now and there not going anywhere so fuck you :)))) p.s. good luck pegs
I'm a Canuck fan and I would be so happy if Winnipeg got their team back. Hopefully they settle everything by tonight and tells the good news tomorrow. Hockey should stay in Canada, and I think after we get the Jets back we get Quebec's team back.
As A Leaf fan I can say that if my favourite team left I would go hockey hungrey, same with every other Canadian hockey team, the flames, Habs, oilers, Canucks, and sens fans would all go insane if their team left, hockey belongs in Canada, Winnipeg deserves to have their team back by this week the Peg should have their hockey team again, looks like your Jets will fly again.
Man what a great story! I'm from Toronto( leafs forever) but wow! Peggers (is that what there called lol) get a awesome second chance. Now pick up seats to games no matter who the opponent is. And frigging love it. There will not be a 3rd chance. Btw I hope they call the team Manitoba Moose that name is great!! Don't you agree
Bettman should find a ditch and die. No market for hockey in Canada my foot, dont give me that song and dance. Even an idiot could run the NHL better then Bettman.
Congrats on Winnipeg getting their team back!! Well since Coyotes wont be moving there, might as well move them to Houston(Aeros). Hey! 4th biggest city in America/biggest city without an NHL team and hockey has worked in Texas, just look at Dallas. If not then Hartford and maybe Portland are other options
I am a huge Red Wings fan but I am glad to see another hockey team back in Winnipeg. You guys got screwed out of a team and Bettman has a man crush on Phoenix. You now have the Thrashers and shall heal the wounds slowly, but nothing will be like watching the Jets. LONG LIVE THE JETS!!! I finally get to see hockey in Winnipeg in my lifetime that I remember.
I'm a die-hard Bruins fan and it killed me to see teams like the Jets, Nordiques, and the Whalers go. Get rid of the southern teams and move em back where they belong.
Im a Wild fan but I am in full support of moving the Cayotes or Thrashers to Winnipeg. I look forward to some great divisional matchups and know how it feels to lose an NHL team. (North Stars :()
I am american in probably the top USA hockey city (Philly) and I believe hockey belongs in Canada and select outposts in USA. I would be devastated if Phillies, Eagles, or Flyers had left, Teams give cities an identity, and really has an impact on it, both in civic pride and fiscally. I am glad to see Winnipeg on the cusp of getting their jets back. I think Quebec need the Nords back, and why not a franchise in Hamilton, Ontario?
Why spend $100 million on ice in a dessert plus salaries for players when we could easily save that much money by relocating to a more northern city maybe one like winnipeg or hartford or even Q city. It would be too easy for nhl officials
huh funny how the NHL move the Jets to the U.S fast becus of money issues, but they keep the Coyotes in Phoenix, while they are losing 300 million dollars....... like why would they (NHL) keep a hockey team in the Desert, why don't we put a basketball team in Alaska.
@BringBackTheWPGJets1 Well, at that time you have to understand, there WAS no possibility of the return of the NHL. Who would have thought a CBA would be drafted to actually help Canadian franchises, as well as the "Perfect Storm" of incidents that have helped us with the opportunity. ( Canadian dollar at Par + , Failing US Franchises, New Arena in WPG, etc........)
As a Hurricanes fan, I've learned that the answer to success in the nhl is very simple. If you place a team in a new location where it eventually succeeds, then by all means leave it. But if the sunbelt project in a certain city hasn't worked over the past 14/15 years then get it the FUCK OUT. Fuck the Coyotes, maybe save the Thrashers, and bring the Jets home!
I've been an Islanders fan for almost 20 years. And this is my worst fear. Cause with the lease expiring after the 2014-2015 season I don't know if the Islanders will still be around. I have nightmares of that day happening.
I re-create the Jets in NHL11. I replace them with Colorado, so the Jets are in the Northwest, put the Avs in the Ducks place so Colorado is in the pacific, and I'll never miss the Ducks so I say fuq'em. I'm a die hard Leafs fan but the Jets are my second fave team.
I'm Canadian but no one is moving the fuckin islanders ur forgetting the early 80's dynasty they had bossy troyeir smith potvin . They r just going through a rough patch, even the Montreal canadiens had a rough patch in the early 2000's
@storeflack I agree with you however; comparing them to the Montreal Canadians of the 90's is quite unjust. The Islanders have been and are averaging just over 10,000 a game and have been at / near the bottom of the league for years now. They have a storied franchise however, that's not going to help them here. Charles Wang only bought this franchise for the land the Arena is built on and couldn't be happier to see them go. Hell, if the Jets could move with their history, so could the Islanders.
if the coyotes move, would that make them go to the Northwest division? Then Vancouver would have to move to the Pacific division right? That would be pretty cool. I think Canada needs more teams......
I am SO SORRY Phoenix, Hulsizer, and Bettman cheated you again, Winnipeg. That was bogus...they're going to "invest" in Hulsizer--$100 million!--to keep that loser fanchise there...PATHETIC! All 30 Phoenix fans were there, brought there kiddies, the council even snapped when those who DIDN'T like the plan spoke at the meeting...
IT. WAS. A. DISGRACE!
Bettman's a liar but he won't be around forever! The Jets WILL fly again (GO DUCKS!)
ok new years eve is a month away, this new years could be a party cuz we find out if we get are jets back. of all the teams struggiling i want the caps but i think we will get the yotes, and i hope quebec gets a team to cuz they desirve one as much as we do. and hamilton doesnt becuz there right next to toronto.. GOOOOOOOOOOO JETS GOOO. cant wait till new years!!!
Good luck Winnipeg. Now is the time to get an NHL franchise. Though Bettman and the owners will most likely want you guys to pay big for an expansion team since the owners get more money than they would though relocation. You guys at least have an ownership group who can potentially bring back the team.
im in a weird situation. I went to a Manitoba Moose game this year and loved it. Would love to see Winnipeg have a NHL Team again! But now I live in Phoenix and wanna see NHL games but I STILL want Winnipeg JETS TO COME BACK!
@SixFeetUndr101 No Phoenix Coyotes are bankrupt NHL has owned them since i don't know when but thrashers and panthers arn't bankrupt AND Bring back the Original team Coyotes! i live in Gatineau But i support this all the way Bring the Jets Back! PST Go Habs GO (lol)
You Winnipeg fans do realize your beloved Jets are coming back if no one buys the Phoenix Coyotes by late December of this year the team will be re-located to Winnipeg, I don't know how you guys are unaware of the situation right now that your Jets are coming back. The Coyotes franchise is struggling right now, and there is still no buyer, but I do want the Jets to come back, so if they do, NHL hockey is back in Winnipeg so keep hoping
A month until 2011, and it may be judgement time for the Phoenix Phonies!
Here's hoping my Anaheim Ducks KILL them every time we meet, Winnipeg...here's hoping the Coyotes lose again and again and no one comes to that rink (well...even LESS people come to that rink, they have like what, 50 people there each game?) and the Coyotes have a HORRIBLE season and die off so the Jets can fly back home to Winnipeg!
@JHendrix70 Another reason to hope they come back via the Coyotes Collapse:
Do you think maybe the Finnish Flash (my favorite player ever and the reason I got into hockey at all and the Ducks, started following my Ducks and the nHL when he came to nearby Anaheim and the rest is history...) might stay on one more year if he could play in Winnipeg again?
@CanadianGuitarist The Coyotes have until New Years eve (my birthday!) to reach a new deal with a new for-Phoenix owner, otherwise they'll open up the sale to anyone and already have a deal-in-principle to sell the team top Chipman/Thomson of TSN to move the team back to Winnipeg.
Back where they belong! Less than two months now...I'm pulling for you, Jets fans!
@de132 ATLANTA!!! Good attendance! Where have you been the last 10 years! Perhaps you need to check out my latest video.....Currently Atlanta sits in 27th place overall with just over 11,000 average attendance! They've been at the bottom for years and it's time for them to move! Being from Winnipeg; it would be poetic justice to see the Coyotes relocate back here however; at this point, I'd MUCH rather see Atlanta move ( Yet again.....) to Winnipeg. Time will tell. My money's still on them!
this was the worst day of my life...in 1995. But maybe this was for the best.. it allowed us time as a city to build a brand new nhl approved arena, and it allowed the nhl to make a salary cap and revunue sharing. Our jets are coming back!
here is the problem, the nhl is so high on markets in america, which is fine. but when you have teams such as the new york islanders not doing well, you know something is up. possible markets like quebec city or second team in toronto, winnipeg, hartford and even hamilton have been suggested. why is milwakee never mentioned? winsconin loves their hockey, like their counterpart minnesota. nobody ever mentions the financial success of minnesota, why not give a similar city like milwaukee a chance?
There are two places hockey teams belong--the big cities that actually DO care about hockey, and THE NORTH!
My Anaheim Ducks are a good example of the former--the Anaheim/LA area is huge, and Ducks fans have turned up again adn again and love their team...what's more, the team has actually DONE something, with icionic players like Kariya, Selanne, Giguere, Getzlaf, some playoff trips, two Finals, adn one Cup.
Bunch of hypocrites you guys are. NJ finished 20th in attendance this year, Boston 23rd in 08 NO ONE CARES ABOUT HOCKEY OMG MOVE THE TEAMS AUVBLVCBLVCBVCLC;
On that note, Thrashers aren't moving (no financial issues, just lack of crowds, and Pittsburgh and Chicago shows that can be changed), Al Strachan is an idiot. and it looks like the most likely team to move (meaning: slightly less likely than pigs flying) would be Phoenix.
@JHendrix70 Ya Bettman says you need market, owner and building. Atlanta, can't really call that a hockey market, and as for the owners, well they might as well not have an owner, thats how bad their group is. So they are left with a building.... What a deal
@lostenmusic The Braves always choke, their sports teams are losers, the urban community's "Dirty South" gloss glorified by Ludachris is a piece of crap, the city is home to CNN, Crappy News Network, their Olympics were marred by Richard Jewell, they were the home of WCW and Jimmy Carter (who boycotted the 1980 Olympics AND got us in the Iran hostage crisis of '79). And Mike Vick was busted for dogfighting. The only thing Atlanta will be famous is that Martin Luther King was born there.
@coolguy12333 the last three maybe, but colorado has been pretty succesful. teams like atlanta or teams in florida and tampa bay have not been mentioned. the nhl should of had a wake up call when pittsburgh went bankrupt, being that pittsburgh is in the north.
Bettmans vision of expanding to bigger U.S markets is a 17 year failure. Essentially his entire time as the commish is a failure. Taking away teams from true hockey fans and putting them into big markets ruins the is league. The Coyotes lost 20 million dollars this year. They lose money. They don't make it. With that young team in Winnipeg. The league would be better for it.
The best thing for the NHL is to have 1/3 of the teams; which would be ten in Canada. That means four will have to relocate starting with Phoenix to Winnipeg and Atlanta to Quebec. The two others should be the Florida Panthers and Nashville Predators.
Get the Coyotes back to Winnipeg and move ATL or FLA to Quebec and then contract Nashville and whatever team doesn't move from ATL or FLA. Get the NHL down to 28 teams and then see from there.
As a new york islanders fan of almost 18 years, I hope I never have to go through this as a fan seeing that nassau county and kate murray and her goons in the town of hempstead are delaying the lighthouse project which might be the only thing that keeps the islanders from leaving. And if they leave, long island would fall apart, and they would be the first team in professional sports that has won championships to move in over 60 years
And now Buttman is protecting phoenix like its some prized posession...where was that dedication to prevent a franchise from moving when the Jets were in trouble..Bettman your a fuckin asshole.
the jets should come back but i live in Arizona and love the Coyotes. Also no offense to Canada but its the National Hockey League not the International Hockey League.
@emoranger37 What's that mean? Do you think that because it's the National Hockey League that means it's the National Hockey League of America? NHL started with the original six teams, two of which were Canadian. Just because it's called the National Hockey League does not mean it's specifically American. It's always been a shared binational Canadian and American league and always will be.
Canadian hockey is the best kind of hockey and I would LOVE to see the Jets return to Winnipeg.
Carolina has a decent fan base. I don't think they need to move.
But I agree with the rest. Anaheim and TB need to go, as do ATL and Phoenix, and the Islanders.
What's funny is that the Jets moved to a city where they're now one of the best teams in the league... And playing in front of the worst fan base the NHL has ever seen.
Dallas has been one of the more successful franchises in the south so; for now, they are more than safe. ( It's Winn"I"peg...and yes, the Coyotes here would be a sure bet. Bettman is already a loser..so, you can scratch that off your list & Gretzky could be assistant to Bettman as he's also a short step away from crossing over....
@BLanger37 Keep Dallas in Texas, Nashville is picking up, Phoenix is down to one ownership group (Ice Edge), Atlanta is wasting their second chance, and add TB.
@BLanger37 it's just a matter of time before the nhl come back her to winnipeg but that would be great if a team did go to regina...i mean they have a small population but damn i bet they'd fill up those seats no problem and it'd give the nhl another rivalry..just like the cfl winnipeg vs regina lol
@BLanger37 I love the idea, but the only real best bets are Hartford and Winnipeg. Regina is too small of a hockey market and is not big like Calgary or Edmonton. Quebec City wants the Federal Gov't to fund the team, which i would hate since every citizen in Canada would have to pay taxes to make a new arena. Hamilton, well the Leafs managed to screw that plus it would kill Buffalo and Balsillie did some dumb idea of selling season tickets before he was even approved owner.
@BLanger37 Yea I will admit it was a great run in Winnipeg, but to be honest the Canadian dollar being at it's worst killed Quebec and Winnipeg and the provincial government should have helped. Bettman is a tyrant who doesn't fess up to mistakes. Remember he is a lawyer after all.

I'm Canadian but no one is moving the fuckin islanders ur forgetting the early 80's dynasty they had bossy troyeir smith potvin . They r just going through a rough patch, even the Montreal canadiens had a rough patch in the early 2000's
storeflack 1 year ago 8
@storeflack I agree with you however; comparing them to the Montreal Canadians of the 90's is quite unjust. The Islanders have been and are averaging just over 10,000 a game and have been at / near the bottom of the league for years now. They have a storied franchise however, that's not going to help them here. Charles Wang only bought this franchise for the land the Arena is built on and couldn't be happier to see them go. Hell, if the Jets could move with their history, so could the Islanders.
JHendrix70 1 year ago 4
@JHendrix70 The Islanders also have the smallest stadium, city, revenue, fan-base, and value in professional sports.

Good luck Winnipeg. Now is the time to get an NHL franchise. Though Bettman and the owners will most likely want you guys to pay big for an expansion team since the owners get more money than they would though relocation. You guys at least have an ownership group who can potentially bring back the team.

Coyotes to Winnipeg!
Thrashers to Quebec!

As a DUCK, of course... ;)
obiwanobiwan13 1 year ago
@obiwanobiwan13 I'm a little ashamed to ask this, but what happens in 2011? Didn't Glendale agree to cover the Coyotes' losses?
Buzz on the FAN 590 last week is that Atlanta's in the most trouble of all the Southern teams.
CanadianGuitarist 1 year ago

Our jets are coming back!
bobster231 1 year ago
i know how they feel to be stripped of their franchise. Supersonics and Jets. ;(
de132 1 year ago
here is the problem, the nhl is so high on markets in america, which is fine. but when you have teams such as the new york islanders not doing well, you know something is up. possible markets like quebec city or second team in toronto, winnipeg, hartford and even hamilton have been suggested. why is milwakee never mentioned? winsconin loves their hockey, like their counterpart minnesota. nobody ever mentions the financial success of minnesota, why not give a similar city like milwaukee a chance?

sedintwinslove 1 year ago
There are two places hockey teams belong--the big cities that actually DO care about hockey, and THE NORTH!
My Anaheim Ducks are a good example of the former--the Anaheim/LA area is huge, and Ducks fans have turned up again adn again and love their team...what's more, the team has actually DONE something, with icionic players like Kariya, Selanne, Giguere, Getzlaf, some playoff trips, two Finals, adn one Cup.
The Coyotes are in an uncaring desert...

What a deal
JetsInThePeg 1 year ago
@lostenmusic The Braves always choke, their sports teams are losers, the urban community's "Dirty South" gloss glorified by Ludachris is a piece of crap, the city is home to CNN, Crappy News Network, their Olympics were marred by Richard Jewell, they were the home of WCW and Jimmy Carter (who boycotted the 1980 Olympics AND got us in the Iran hostage crisis of '79). And Mike Vick was busted for dogfighting. The only thing Atlanta will be famous is that Martin Luther King was born there.

tormapleafan 1 year ago
Bettmans vision of expanding to bigger U.S markets is a 17 year failure. Essentially his entire time as the commish is a failure. Taking away teams from true hockey fans and putting them into big markets ruins the is league. The Coyotes lost 20 million dollars this year. They lose money. They don't make it. With that young team in Winnipeg. The league would be better for it.
lonelykir6 1 year ago
The best thing for the NHL is to have 1/3 of the teams; which would be ten in Canada. That means four will have to relocate starting with Phoenix to Winnipeg and Atlanta to Quebec. The two others should be the Florida Panthers and Nashville Predators.
lonelykir6 1 year ago
John Loewen, Gary Filmon and Susan thompson.......no wonder we lost the team.

Get the Coyotes back to Winnipeg and move ATL or FLA to Quebec and then contract Nashville and whatever team doesn't move from ATL or FLA. Get the NHL down to 28 teams and then see from there.
tmoore4075 1 year ago
As a new york islanders fan of almost 18 years, I hope I never have to go through this as a fan seeing that nassau county and kate murray and her goons in the town of hempstead are delaying the lighthouse project which might be the only thing that keeps the islanders from leaving. And if they leave, long island would fall apart, and they would be the first team in professional sports that has won championships to move in over 60 years

the jets should come back but i live in Arizona and love the Coyotes. Also no offense to Canada but its the National Hockey League not the International Hockey League.
emoranger37 1 year ago
