I'm a guitar player, love this version of the song. I would have loved to see this band in person. Great song, Chicano vesrion is outstanding, lots of soul, Barbara Lewis too.

  • Nice bassline on this version!

  • norte needs love too th4 r4z4 we 4ll 4re r4z4 juntos will m4ke it 4nd fuck th4 h4ters

  • QUE BUENA ROLA.

  • I'm 13 years old and heard this when I was 9 years old and fell in love with it old skool music is so much better than new school

  • @jazzy1997ist Sweetie, It Isn't old school! This is what "real" music is supposed to be! I'm so glad that you found the 'real stuff'! I wish you well in life! And, always remember these 50's songs!

  • @hydromorph1965 I agree and thanku wish you well in life 2

  • @jazzy1997ist If i run across a great one from that era, I'll pass it on to you...

  • @jazzy1997ist Type in "Hello Stranger" done by barbara Lewis. I think that you might like that one, also!

  • @hydromorph1965 Actually the 1 by Barbara is origanally the 1st 1 I heard i knew this 1 sounded faster and a different voice lol have you heard(sittin in the park)by Billy Stewart? I think thats a good 1 too

  • @hydromorph1965 Yea, ive heard of Billy! Not for a long time, though. You are really into great music at your age, huh? You certainly have some knowledge about the era! So,you did actually look into Barbara Lewis, I see!

  • This is one of my favourite songs of all time and the Barbara Lewis version gets the goose bumps up every time. Even so, this is good and if I heard them playing this so well in a club, I'd hang onto every note and applaud ferociously at the end. Why is Youtube so full of sour-faced bores? Love it or leave it.

  • Wow very nice !

  • barbara lewis has a better voice, but the production, back up vocals, and rhythm section in this version are much better. go ahead down-vote me.

  • @Kinshasa9200

naw, you're totally right...the music part is better in this one, but, Barbara was killin the vocals...but both are beautiful....i vote you up homes...reppin Los Angeles....

  • @Kinshasa9200 back up vocals better than the mighty Dells, no way!

  • Hell yeah. She hits those notes sick.... & the melody to it is also very good...

  • shes my substitute right now :D

    thats too cool.

  • This is my Spanish substitute! Ahaha(:

  • @TheRachelRampage really?

  • Awesome voice! Loved it!

  • Where does she live?

  • Yes! Paula still sings! She sings Christian music (Spanish & English) and released a CD last year. She is working on some new material and should have another CD released hopefully by the end of 2011. Her birthday is coming up on March 17th! St. Patty's Day!

  • Man she was beautiful....

  • I love ØŁD13§:.

  • FANTASTIC.......NO ELECTRONIC TOOLING,....direct recording- JUST PLAIN TALENT, EVEN THE BAND. I RATE THIS ONE 100

  • I agree man. I happen to love this version but it is a matter of personal taste. I am a musician so maybe listen for some different things, I don't know. This piece has some incredible timing to it. The hard bass, the way Paula comes in at just the right time, her variation in tone, ultra feminine voicing and probably gorgeous looks all play into this. The band is also good. I don't know if they did it every time but it all came together on this recording. I love it.

  • The controversy of which song is better is ridiculous. The circumstances surrounding the recording of the song has to be taken. Lewis used studio musicians, Estrada was backed up by a garage band composed of Tejano musicians (Little Joe was known only around the dancehalls in Texas). Lewis' song took 13 takes, while Estrada's was most likely a one take, hey sounded good, let's call it a night. Which version is better, depends on the individuals' taste in music & has nothing to do with color.

  • ***For the record Paula was the female singer for "little"Joe and the latinaires in the mid 1960's. She is and has always lived in Texas although she did perform in California. She does not work at Walmart, with all do respect. Thanks to all of her fans for keeping the Latino beat alive. Hello Stranger was recorded with Little Joe & the Latinaires!

  • @sammyandamy1

i hear you..i haven't read any negative comments yet, but it would be a shame for one to criticize because of color. I'm black (mixed with a lil other stuff, but mostly black), and i can't decide which is better...i like the music in this one waaay better, but the singing in Babara's is nice.....THEY BOTH BANG!!!..you can play either at a house party for me...reppin Los Angeles!!!!

  • She works at our Walmart in Sacramento, talked to her several times..

  • sounds great.

  • good cover. pretty lady.

  • shes so beautiful, im inlove..

  • This singer used to sing with her band at the El Monte Legion Stadium in 1962 but you definitely needed to look like a latino to hang with that crowd~!! Surfers were the "enemy" there! Likewise the latinos weren't welcome at our Harmony Park in Anaheim. Those were musical monster venues that served up the best of R & R.

  • @redibeaver

Thats some cool historic info. Thanks for posting! I knew about the El Monte Legion. I had heard of Harmony Park . Was not aware it was down in Anaheim.

  • It's just friggin great! Captures the essence & soul of this song. This girl is SO beautiful too. I would have loved to hear them in person.

  • Chicano music lives forever!

  • What a great version. I'll admit I never heard of Paula Estrada but I just love this version.

  • What part of the state was she from? Is the Latinaires the same as Little Joe and the Latinaires before they became La Familia?

    just wondering....

  • @ramosfamilyhouston

sure sounds like Johnny in the Back ground vocals

  • Nicely done. Has that slow dreamy sound to it

  • Hello sy

  • Love it, thanks for sharing it.

  • Beautiful Lady, Beautiful voice

  • @msronnie63 I know I love Oldies

  • Wonderful.

  • I ŁØV3 TH1§ §ØNG :)

  • @whisper58113 this is such a firme song

  • superb music, thankyou for posting, East los sound!!!

  • The quickest way out's version is the best,

  • love this song man has a good vibe to it bring back memories :)

  • Who is Paula Estrada? This looks like a very dated photo. Is she still around and performing?

  • What in the hell does most of these negative comments have to do with music, get a life yo! both versions are cool.

  • the sexy soultry sound of the female works well the male back ground lacks the boss sound she is good the rendition is good ...thanks

  • WHO GIVES A FLYING F!! JUST DRINK A BEER SHUT UP LISTEN TO THIS JAM & RELAX

  • Hello stranger, let's screw now!

  • The reason this country is circling the drain is people distracting themselves with cultural, sexual, historical or religious arguments that have NO clear answer (like this one) instead of caring about those little niceties the country is truly meant to stand for in the world, the right to live in economic, personal and cultural freedom.

That being said, it's my favorite song and BOTH versions are simply beautiful.

  • who cares who sang This Tune Is a Bad Ass One!!!!!!!

  • so love this song

  • @playgirlc Love you play girlc

  • We chicanos do borrow music from the African-American culture and have done so for many generations and we've add our barrio lingo..

  • why are you guys trippin ? no shit the chicanos music is like the mayates music we grew up together in most poor neighborhoods in the USA only natural we bump the same shit que no we did it then and we do it now look at chicano rap anything the mayates can do we could do better ...except basketball! just kick back and enjoy the music fuckers!

  • @mrtrucos13 The problem is there seems to be a lot of tension between Blacks and there Latinos brothers. Like you say, we have lived together and this tension was not there before. Let's stop the tension and live in peace and harmony together, agreed. Like you say enjoy the music and get along.

  • The problems is there seems to be a lot of tension between Blacks and Latinos today. This wasn't always the case. Now you've got the Mexican Mafia moving in and starting race wars. Let's stop the hate and live in peace, like you say, set back and enjoy the music.

  • @mrtrucos13 - Ese, please don't bring up "chicano rap". Rap is terrible these days but "chicano rap" is the worst. It's simply terrible imitations of NWA, Tupac and other 20 year gangsta rap. The worst of all comes from LA.

  • @MrTransition12345 stfu u weird pedo!

  • No way is this better than Barbera Lewis....absolutely no way!

  • THIS IS PRETTY GOOD AS WELL NICE LATINO FLAVOR... DROP STEP STUTTER BEAT IS DOPE..

  • shes beautiful

  • why cant we just enjoy music as it was meant to be? People are always going to have different opinions but leave the fighting on the battlefield and in congress, just sit back, turn up the music and open up a "cold one".

  • Not bad, But Barbara sounds lots better. Strange that it is the exact musical arrangement.

  • besides.......

imitation (and an outstanding one) is the MOST sincerest form of flattery (quote)

  • all human beings are born with soul (souls?) , its just a matter of tapping into it and the degree of resonation within the individual.

it may be a mixture of choice and emotion......and its not just confined to singing.

and while acknowledging creation and roots of our music is extremely important, i'm happy that the music endures for we and generations to come to enjoy.

    hope that came out right....

  • such beautiful voice.....she singing it with so much passion.....i love the way barbara lewis sings it too

  • Best example of Chicano music!

  • Who gives a fuck? Chicanos and blacks have way more in common than they have divisions. Just enjoy the song. It's a sick version. All brown skinned people have soul!

  • @Staggolee You are a racist. All brown skinned people have soul? You don't think that Boz Skaggs has soul? How about Hall and Oats? I could go on, but you are not worth my time.

  • First of all acfinney, I must have been worth your time because you took it upon yourself to respond to a rather tongue-in-cheek assertion. What you failed to realize was that nowhere in my statement did I say white people did NOT have soul. That was simply an assumption you jumped to, and rather quickly I might add. As a black person, I cannot be racist. I can bigoted, prejudiced, but racism is a power construct, something that bars people from jobs, school. Shouldn't throw that word around.

  • @Staggolee That word is thrown around every day in America. Tell me... How many schools or jobs have you been banned from? When is the last time a race other than Black, has won a BET award?

  • @acfinney : BET? Really? You do realize that BET is owned by whites, right? Therefore if only Black folks win BET awards you can bet that there is a white person advocating for that. As far as me being barred from schools and jobs, well yes I am sure I have been denied a few jobs due to the color of my skin, but that wasn't my point. Racism as an institution has denied people (not just me seeing as I don't represent an entire race of people) entry into normal positions in the social strata.

  • @acfinney : You have to look at the history of REAL racism, not this BS word conservative whites want to throw around. REAL racism is slavery, Jim Crow, Segregation, The Chinese Exclusion Act, Japanese Interment camps, Manifest Destiny. THAT is real racism, meaning one group of people has the legal and cultural backing to oppress or at the very least deny an entire group of people certain inalienable rights. When have you heard of a black or latino or asian able to do that in this country?

  • @Staggolee Would you prefer that White people be oppressed? Would that make you happy? As far as the JAP camps, we were at total war with these people. They used captured Americans as slaves. If you are so ashamed at the notion of being an American, move to Africa.LOL. They would have you for lunch.

  • @acfinney Your hollow response is answer enough, because I see you are still assuming I mean something when I don't. Do I want white people to be oppressed acfinney? No, of course not. But if being outraged at the injustices that America has sustained on its own people is me being "ashamed to be an American" than please, pray tell, what should one do. Ignore America's past and and present and simply let our country turn out any old way? or fight for a country that was promised to us in our Const

  • @Staggolee You can do one of two things. You can be a bitter black man and shrink with utter discust at the situation that has befallen you, or you can be proud of a country that has given Black people more opportunities than any other country in the world. Do you know that over 620,000 white young men died in a war that was fought over not only state rights, but the right for a Black person to live a free life. It would have been a lot easier to have not shed blood and slavery prevail.

  • @acfinney Many Black soldiers fighting in wars from the Revolutionary War to current times, lost their lives too. During the civil war, most whites felt they were not fighting to save slaves but to only save the union. Even Pres. Lincoln said his focus was to save the union, not salves. So what's your point. There is still wide racism in this country, which whites refuse to admit to.

  • @cjfl1962 Oh yeah, there is so much racism....Last time I looked, we had a black man for president. White people put him in office. Give me three examples of wide spread racism. You have made it clear, the extreme contempt you have for White people. Put yourself in our shoes. If you were white, whould you love Black people? I bet you don't even love people of your own race. I think that deep down inside, blacks are jealous of Whites. Not all...but the majority.

  • @Staggolee @acfinney states history from a white perspective. During the civil war, there were Est. 5 M salves living, 1/3 or about 1.5 M died as a result the war. Also, Black soldiers have fought & died in every war the U.S. has had, along with enduring extreme racism and oppression. Much of the suffering of Blacks around the world is at the hands of Whites. Let's not forget African was colonized by Whites and they're still over there exploiting people.

  • @acfinney Japaneses in this country were Americans and should have been treated as such. During WWII we had over 100K German POWs who were treated better than all minorities in this country. Look at WWI and WWII, how U.S. troops died due to the Germans. No one in America is hating on the Germans, now are they. Whites around the world stick together shit on everyone else.

  • @cjfl1962 Whites are more crafty than blacks. Whites act on intellect and not emmotion. Take Austalia for instance....Hear is a country that was settled by the lowest people in English society. Murderers, rapist, imbecils, retards, insane, unhealthy, even plague infested people. They had nothing, and turned that country into a thriving world power. In contrast, compare those people to the Black population of Africa. Nothing has changed. Explanation????

  • @acfinney Explanation?? There were thriving ADVANCED civilizations in Africa when the Europeans arrived. Mali Empire, the Benin empire, Oyo empire, Ashanti, Great Zimbabwe, Kingdom of Kongo etc., There were also many pre-Islamic civilizations. The Europeans benefited from contact with Africa, the Africans fared far worse. Africa, like ancient America, had thriving civilizations destroyed by European invasions.

  • @The Africans benefitted from Europeans. What do you consider as thriving? What do you consider as civilization? My point is that these cvilizations as you call them were nothing more than savage-tribes in war with each other. Sickness and brutal warfare abounded.

  • @acfinney The diseased, savage Europeans caused brutal warfare and sickness. The kingdom of Ghana was a prosperous nation that had lucrative trade with Egypt and middle eastern countries. The Great Zimbabwe kingdom traded with China. The 8000 year old dfuna boat, was found in what is now known as Nigeria. It is the oldest boat found in Africa and 3rd oldest in the world. Archaeologist Peter Bruenig says that it is more sophisticated and stylish that any European boat of same age.

  • @acfinney Europeans brought the sickness and brutal warfare. How have Africans benefited from Europeans?! Indeed it has been Europe and America that have benefited from Africans natural resources, human and other valuable resources. Africa has not recaptured the glory of the Mali Empire, The Dahomey empire, Timbuktu, Ghana, The Nok culture, etc.,

  • @acfinney The Berlin conference in 1885 carved up Africa and divided it among several European nations. Present day Nigeria, Angola, Ivory Coast, Senegal, Liberia, Sierra Leone and other countries did not exist prior to 1885. Africa never recovered from this carnage. The middle ages for Africa was a thriving and prosperous time.

  • @cjfl1962 If you read the Bataan Death March book, you would understand why we treated Germans better. Survival rate for U.S. POW's in Jap camps were estmated at 42%. Survival rates in German camps for U.S. POW's were 86%. Germans didn't chop American's heads off for being tall or stepping out of line to drink some stagnated water or run a sword through a mans ass, simply because he had to take a shit, due to sickness.

  • Japaneses in this country were Americans and should have been treated as such. During WWI & WWII, look how many U.S. troops were killed by Nazi's, no one is hating on the Germans today. During WWII there were over 100K NAZI POWs in this country and they were treated better than all minorities. In WWII, the most decorated unit was a Japaneses unit, shame on America.

  • @cjfl1962 That would have been the 442nd unit. It is easy for you to judge our country for doing these things, but the Japanese were a bigger threat. They were fanatics and would stop a nothing short of death. Sounds like another form of fanatics we have today....Muslims. Anyhow, my wife worked with Japanese for years and they are very traditional and very racist. They claimed that the reason our auto companies suffered from quality control was the fact that we hire too many token blacks.

  • Ahhhhhhh, excellent !!

  • Paula is a fine Chicana , then and today, and with a beautiful voice, she keeps representing, Paula we love you !!

  • I like this version too. It has more of a "kick" than Barbara's. I have included both this and Barbara's in my favorite list.

  • I'm admittedly biased. I think Chicano women are beautiful. Paula Estrada, in this photo, is as good as it gets for me. This is a great version of this song too. The bass is really strong and hits hard. Better than Barbara Lewis? No, but it is very good. I wish I knew more about this lady. There ain't no colors bra, it's all just soul. That's all that counts.

  • WE XICANOS NATIVE AMERICANS TO THIS LAND SING WALK TALK LIVE SOULFULL ALSO THE FORM OF RAPPING OUR ANCESTORS DID ALSO SO WHY IS IT ALWAYS BLACKS THIS BLACKS THAT AND ANOTHER THING ALOT OF BLACK MUSIC IS WRITTEN BY WHITES?

  • @UNITER1 Everybody has soul but soul music created by the descendants of African people brought here to be slaves. This is a uniquely Black American style of music. Every group has poetry and rhymes but your ancestors did not rap to funk, soul, r&b beats. Again a style created by Blacks, based upon other styles of Black created music. Whites wrote songs for soul, funk, r&b, jazz, blues, gospel, rap - all Black music.

  • @UNITER1More Blacks have written for Black music. Ever heard of Curtis Mayfield, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, Sam Cooke, Gamble & Huff. Marvin Gaye, Holland Dozier Holland, Berry Gordy, Sly Stone, The Delfonics, Chi-lites, Isley Brothers, Earth Wind & Fire, Bobby Womack, Bill Withers, Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, Michael Jackson, Prince, Roger & Zapp, James Brown and a lot more? Barbara Lewis wrote "Hello Stranger". I haven't even included jazz, blues, gospel, ragtime, rap.

  • @KhemuLuxons your point being ..... ?????

  • @UNITER1 your a fucking moron if you think Mexicans created Black music. Im white and i cant tell you that shit and only dumb ass type in all caps. You vocab is fucked up Ese

  • @UNITER1 Rock has more of a Latino influence than anything else. The syncopation is Latin to be sure. What I am saying is that you are right on all accounts. I know the history of music. I have studied it. Why do Blacks want to claim the invention of everything? It is like a complex they have to prove.

  • if what u say is true how come your kind never created it,im not black,as a child growing up in our village we learned how europeans like elvis and the rest stole black people music and profited from it,rock n roll started with scot joplin and robert johnson from the 1900,ike turner and jackie brenson rocket 88 was the first official rock n roll song, you mention latin music, you mean afro cuban beats, you mention western swing adolf hitler ban swing because he knew blacks created

  • @tonyskins19 Elvis was from Tupelo Miss. Accusing him of stealing from blacks is as ludacris as saying that Dizzy ro Charlie Parker stole from Debussy of Stravinsky. Handel was using 4x4 beats a century before Joplin. Hitler banned swing music because of the Jewish influence, like Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, ect. The latin music I was talking about was South American. Modern rock beats were developed from Bossa Nova. Next you will be saying that Blacks invented cheese.

  • @acfinney Not ludicrous because Elvis grew around Blacks down in the delta area of Mississippi. He grew up in the Black neighborhood attending Black churches. This is where he listened to and learned gospel and other forms of Black music. He also admitted to Ike Turner that he'd sneak into the Black night clubs and listen to Ike play the piano. Also, him and Pat Boone regularly copied Little Richards songs. Don't believe me check it out.

  • @acfinney Hitler banned swing because it was considered black music and popular amongst jewish musicians, Bossa nova originated from samba which is an afro brazilian musical form. Bossa nova is just a mix of afro american jazz and afro brazilian samba. 4x4 beat is popular amongst many cultures and race, american music is nothing without peoples of african decent.

  • @rotena25 You are void of any knowledge of the history of music. Have you learned this propaganda from an institution? Samba is of Spanish orgin. Hitler banned Swing music because of the number of great Jewish Swing musicians. Blacks were not even considered as human in Germany. What next???? Will you be stating that Country and Bluegrass is African? You need help!

  • @acfinney Well hitler was an idiot, original man was an african. Samba is not of spanish origin, Samba is from brazil and they speak portugues not spanish. Samba come from the african word semba, samba was created by black slaves in brazil and they spoke their african and portugues languages.

  • @acfinney I never said anything about country and bluegrass, but since you bring it up. The banjo used in bluegrass music is or african origin, introduced to america by black slaves from west africa. And early country music was played by both black and white americans. Historians say early country music was more blues than anything else and originally played by blacks.

  • @acfinney Look it up mister historian, it seems your facts are void of knowledge. Go back to whatever teacher thaught you music history and slap him for me.

  • @rotena25 The great and talented Mr. James Brown once stated he himself, borrowed from the latin beat in his musical compositions, much to his credit. Listen

music belongs to the world, if you don't like that then keep to yourself.

  • @zoomrocket777 What latin beat did james brown borrow from, please be specific.

  • @rotena25 Let's not stray from the original subject. Bossa Nova was developed in 1956, by Joao Gilberto. He was not black. This was the initial subject at hand. My problem with your logic is that you believe everything you read on the WEB. Prove to me that all races came from Africa. You can't. You may as well try to prove the evidence of aliens from other worlds. You are correct in the fact that Hitler was insane, My music prof. needed to be slapped and Samba came from Africans.

  • @acfinney Trust me I do not believe everything I read on the web, Im far from that. Joao Gilberto may have been white just as elvis is white, but the music they played originaly had origins in the black communities, Rythems of bossa nova are no different from traditional samba and jazz of from afro communities. And man came from africa genetics prove it.

  • @tonyskins19 Tell it to him, he thinks people are fools and do not know history.

  • @acfinney Syncopation is nothing new. It has origins in various forms of music. Therefore, no one culture can lay calm to it.

  • @acfinney Latin music is black music, from samba rhumba cumbia salsa etc all created by african slaves.
