GIVE HER MAJISTY A BREAK!! Y'all should know better. Any time you give a theatre Queen a pop song (ie Clay Akins doing Moon River) you have to expect it to be "Barbraized" you know what I mean....Like when she (Striesand)did David Bowies LIFE ON MARS. (chuckle) ah hem, Miss Ball is just flamming out! you want vocal quality go for Elvis C or that whinny little Kristen whats her face
0.32 seconds of footage to judge the performance!!?? Those saying that this is overdone acting wise need to remember that this was a filmed concert. Therefore those people sitting in the gods, right at the back have to be played too to.
Personally, I prefer this dude to Costello with his broke down voice. Yes, it sounds all emo, but Ball can deliver real passion which his instrument the way Kristin Vigard does... and let's face it... her version is stellar. THAT is the way the song should be sang!
Michael Ball is an amazing singer. Watch the songs he does at the Andrew Lloyd Weber Birthday Concert. He's just great. This sog I'm not sure abou though. I'd have to hear the whole thing though to really tell.
Maybe he is a great singer technically but he doesn't even touch the emotion and passion that Costello sings it with...Not even 1/1000th of a bit. It sounds hokey, a poor karaoke version of the original. Lifeinfullcolour14 and camcoop25 are correct. And this guy could never write music like Costello. And bardbulky15...What do you know of our musical education? Listen to the original yourself. Maybe it's you who does not have the ear. Ball's rendition doesn't do this song any justice whatsoever.
How dare you compare Michael Ball to Elvis Costello.. Are you kidding me?/ To make a comment such as that tells us that you are not anywhere near the musicians level of ear... Michaels vocals are simply stunning. Educate yourself musically and then see if you dont agree....
The song did the singing... he is actually crap. Powerful voice, shit singer. Check out the Elvis Costello (songwriter showing respect for his own song) version.

Yikes!!! What an abomination. This is scary bad, and I don't mean bad like badass. I mean bad, like poor.

This might be okay audibly- if i didn't have to watch him and his campy ovr-emoting. Took a beautiful song and curdled it into cheese-
This is the kind of genericperformance that killed Broadway musicals

no freaking emotion, what good is it if you can't put a God given voice to good use!
Write and butcher your own music.

I like the Elvis Costello version. Why is this cretin ruining the song.

Best Michael Ball performance ever...
I had this dvd a few years ago but I sold it. Otherwise I would have put the WHOLE song on youtube.
Maybe skydivedude can do this now. He would do me and a lot of people on this planet a huge pleasure...

This is a snipet of the full song. You could feel the emotion in the air as he was singing . Fantastic!

This blows! He's making a mockery of an emotional and touching song. Mercifully, it only lasts a millisecond.
