Top work again SRT :) On another not I personally I cannot wait for the majority of people to quit using the cringe worthy term for a crash or incident as "Wreck" my mind just explodes from the nauseating sound of this adopted word in American motorsports.....
Jessica did an great job! Asked all the questions I wanted to hear. It was neat hearing the Iracers say they had pretty modest setups too. Just goes to show, you don't need all the bells and whistles to be a good sim racer. Keep up the good work and I apologize for all the GT5 fanboys that are going to flame Jr's comments. I mean how much more of a qualified opinion can you get? I've played all the Gran Turismos therefore my opinion is more qualified than a Sprint Cup driver. Ha!
Forgot to add before- the editing is getting much better. The sound levels are the only thing that seem to be lacking (really loud at times, quiet other times). It's probably exaggerated on my 7.1 channel 1000watt home theater setup though.

@Sean...I enjoyed your segment as well. I just have one (small?) criticism. You had a grin on your face that looked like you were trying to hard to appear to be hanging on their every response...Like a puppy waiting for a snack.
This episode really is a new high point in the history of the show. The interviews with the iRacing users as well as Dale Jr. really made me feel like we are all kindred spirits with similar motivations and goals. Congrats ISR.

Wow, I never dreamed Mike Main was such a big guy... my mental image was always a skinny little teenage kid wrecking people at 'dega back on TeN :)
I also thought it was great to hear the old school guys are still kicking butt with just a wheel and a computer desk. I still use a Logitech Momo too!
@torque2802 I don't think Dale Jr has a failed racing dream.. Also, just because someone can't come up with millions of dollars to race and pursue that as a career, doesn't mean they've failed. We're all still enjoying one of our passions and thats the competition and the ability to race cars that we can't in real life.
@simracingtonight not all racing is millions of dollars wen u strt small for example clio cup racing tht aint millions of dollars and if u stand out 4 gd reasons then sponsors cover most of ur costs so racing isnt millions of dollars. and its millions of dollars if u plan on running ur own team not if u plan on being a driver for a team
Nice job with the Junior interview, Jess. You just keep improving by leaps and bounds. With so knowing so many eyes would be on you, it would have been understanble if you choked, but you didn't. You pulled it off.
And to the guys, I know you have stood behind Jess when a lot of people gave you crap about her skills. I bet you wish you could say "IN YOUR FACE!" to them now.
Great job. Great show. Thanks for all that you do for the Sim Racing community.
you have to wonder how well psychologically using a sim is compared to the real thing. like if a complete newbie who had been sim racing since he was 12 but had never driven a actual car.. how would it go?
either way, great interview. good to see hes a gaming fan.
well like I said those games have other ways of being more realistic & I'm sure that's what Dale meant. He knows especially from doing long races that all those things become large factors so in that way it is a step back but the driving is better. The cars I have really raced felt more similar to life in GT5, simple as that. & what console game has better physics?
i cant really play any PC sims because i only have a laptop which wouldnt run all the sims as fluently as i'd like so the best i can do is play on the consoles with GT5p (GT5 soon HOPEFULLY), F1 CE, F1 2010, Forza 3, Race Pro and Dirt 2 with my Logitech Driving Force GT and (now broken) Microsoft 360 wheel
@simracingtonight - How can Dale Jr. make any comments about GT5 when it isn't even out? GT5p is not GT5. Yeah iRacing has the best physics, but it isn't perfect, as everyone knows. Also GT5 might have the most realistic physics on a console racer, but how would we know, it isn't out yet! No one can make final judgements on GT5 after playing an unfinished demo. Just sayin'
@Live2Race82 "iRacing is the only sim in the world where the tires actually contact the track surface and responds accordingly to the laser scanned bumps." Umm, there are no "tires" or "track surfaces", it's all just numbers in any sim. There is no spoon!
Ya know I think Dale Jr has a real solid point about honing his 'drafting' skills on the plate tracks when doing online racing. And it shows in real life on the track, too.
GOD! I love this show. I got into sim drifting because of the g27review esp. I have a rx-7 fc and LFS is my training. " it's funny how techniques in the virtual world can be applied into the real world, the fact that any technique can be applied to anything, redefines experiences itself."
I've played iracing a lot. There's a ton of little details about the cars that go beyond GT5 but as far as just the physics of driving GT5p & GT5 (they're not the same) are simply best. Either way iracing is amazing & I wish I had the money to own it. Seriously, the amount of sim titles need to increase. These are amazingly close to real
@thnk4urself Are you kidding? GT5 and GT5 P have better physics ?? You just heard it from Dale Jr saying those are real just games in comparison.. "A step back".
There's titles on the console with better physics than GT5. GT5 has the eye candy over all other titles and thats about it
@simracingtonight Go ahead and point to a game on consoles with more realistic physics than GT5. This ought to be good. I've driven in various race series, even done a fair bit of drifting in local NW drift comps. I have never played a console game that comes close to GT5 in terms of physics. iRacing is fantastic, and it definitely has a lot of areas that trump GT5's physics, but for console I just can't imagine what game you think has better physics than GT5.
@simracingtonight That is a bold statement saying other CONSOLE titles have better physics than GT5. I'd like to hear which ones? The closest thing to GT5 on consoles is forza3. I can see Forza 3 taking one of those votes, but you said "titles", so what are the others ones?
@XxJoshbxX Richard Burns Rally on the PS2 and Xbox had better physics. Forza 3 has better physics the Prologue and GT5 Time Trial comes close to Forza 3. Ultimately Forza 3 has permanent assists making GT5 the better sim but on a physics level we don't know if it will be better than Forza yet.
@simracingtonight Dale Jr also said he didn't want to play console games because he doesn't want to go back to using a joy stick. He needs to at least try it with a wheel setup before any comment made holds water. Kind of like Michael Jackson saying pepsi is better than coke. GT5 isn't even released yet. Maybe you're right, but let's at least try it first.
@simracingtonight With all due respect, your opinion is biased towards iRacing in my eyes since you do a lot of promotional videos with them. In addition, Dale Jr' didn't seem that knowledgeable about "sim" racing nor gaming. He said "i can't feel competitive anymore" referring to cockpits etc, so he prefers to sit in a wooden chair with a thrustmaster.
In addition, GT5 is not out yet, it's been delayed, so any physics in tech demos is subject to change. It's not just "eye candy" as you put it
@LaenPvP My opinion is biased towards iRacing because it's a true simulation and for online competition, there's nothing better.. GT5 is a game and is good..but.. GT5 is more than eye candy, but compared to iRacing, it's a game. Can you race 42 people on GT5 on a laser scanned track with real rules ? no.. Does GT5 have NASCAR and Grand Am sanctioning their races ?.. no
@simracingtonight I'll give you the 42 players, but yes NASCAR is fully working with GT5 and It's an exclusive. Also, there will be 16 player multiplayer with real rules on just as accurate tracks as iRacing. As far as GT5 being "only a game" We'll just have to agree to disagree, i really hope when it comes out (if ever) you give it a thorough review. Remember, the tech demos you played were in a highly controlled alpha stage of the game. Once you dial in your pod let's see how this baby does.
I would love to get into iRacing, but I'm into Forza 3 and I plan on getting Gran Turismo 5 when ever it comes out! Hopefully I'll get iRacing when I get a better job!
@m4sterm12 There is no comparing iRacing to GT5. GT5 doesn't even calculate half of the physics that iRacing does. iRacing is the only sim in the world where the tires actually contact the track surface and responds accordingly to the laser scanned bumps. iRacing's force feedback actually replaces the "seat-of-your-pants" feel that all sims and games lack. iRacing has real vehicle dynamics engineers working for them. iRacing is funded by a billionaire!!
@devxc you dont buy iRacing, you subscribe and purchase licenses for the cars and tracks, so no, will never happen. But its cheap as! only 10 dollars a month or less!
Funny how dale don't know you can use a wheel on GT5 he said he does not want to play it cause of the game controller he has G 25 he should know it works on a PS3
wondering on the setups on iracing; generally, how close are the stock setups to the fast guys or do all cars need lots of tweeks to get within a couple seconds of the faster guys. Also are there non mod races (a non adjustable setup or spec races)
I've been playing rFactor recently for the first time since iRacing came out, and I have to agree with Dale that it's hard to go back to rFactor, GTR2, etc. with iRacing. iRacing just seems to have an edge to me in the physics department. rFactor will always have the edge in the variety department. If someone at iRacing is reading this, PLEASE SCAN THE NURBURGRING!!! :)
