i live i9n england and have found 3 gold coins in last 24 years,,,thats a fantastic looking coin,2nd best i reckon, check out the henry 8th ship noble.we all need dreams
Gold Aureus, Lugdunum, AD 46-47, TI CLAVD CAESAR AVG P M TR P VI IMP XI, laureate head right, rev PACI AVGVSTAE, Pax-Nemesis advancing right, pointing caduceus at snake.
Such a coin was sold at Baldwin´s auctions for 6678 USD or 4200 GBP
Congratulations!!!
BTW: As a coin collector I would never sell such an awesome coin ;)
You took the time and trouble to come here and search land legally. You appreciate the history and historic value at least as much as a native. You also took the time and trouble to show us what you find, opening yourself up to a lot of criticism and knee-jerk opinion.
I am on the fence, part of me would like to see only native brits being allowed to do this on our land, the other part shares your excitement and applauds your enthusiasm.
If it was Caligula it would go for £30.000 up I Collect Roman coins and have a Denarius of Caligula cost me £3000 from Spink fun hobby but I can afford it
Very nice, i bet the Roman who lost that coin would never of imagined that a few thousand years down the line a guy from a far away land will pick it up out of the earth. You have given me some inspiration again... i'm going metal detecting tomorrow now. I live near a major Roman road, so hopefully there is one for me also stuck in it's earth prison. :)

@djbenyamin13 The farmer took it to Spinks and they don't seem to think it will fetch as much as first thought. Mark has offered to buy it from the farmer for 3K pounds. We're hoping he accepts the offer, a bird in the hand.
one thing i dont like about the england hunts is if you find anything good like a gold coin , you cant never keep it, so whats the point of going if ya dont get to keep your gold.
@nuggetnoggin Not true. Of the 10 gold coins I have found I got to keep 9 of them. 1 was part of a hoard purchased by the Museum and I got half the value from the sale. Any gold coins we find we pay the farmer a portion of the value. Thats the fair thing to do, and we get to keep the coin. Watch Englands Treasure Laws 101 it explains the treasure act. in easy terms.
@nuggetnoggin Most coins are common and you pay 30 to 50 pounds 50 to 100 US dollars. This Roman gold is a rare one. It will go fro auction at spinks and probably sell for more than 6,000 pound. Mark who found it will get half of whatever it sells for.
@chicagoron61 so your saying if you go it already is gonna cost like $1500 after plane ticket, and stuff, but then you have to bring money to buy all the stuff you find .
@chicagoron61 so i dont have to pay for anything else i dig. only gold coins, so i better bring like 18,000 dollars in cash becuase i know i would dig a gold coin or 2, theres more gold coins in england then america. How many american made gold coins have you dug ?
@chicagoron61 ohh, well i know where a old long gone relative in my family buried his mason jar of gold coins and morgan dollars, they were buried in 1920 before the stock market crashed, i have been putting off the trip for 3 yrs, it's 180 miles away and always too hot to go and in the winter there is deer hunters , so theres really no time to dig it.
@nuggetnoggin just keep it, and you do not need to have bad conscience because of it, who finds it it belongs to him. Only moron would listen to laws of some criminals who wants just to take it to make money out of it in museum for entrance fee.You people really did not figure out that you are slaves to Governments, Its all bunch of thieves all Governments of the world with the institutions belonging to them.
brilliant video, great gold roman coin, my camera does not work as well as yours but please watch my videos, i have been lucky to find a gold stater, plus possible saxon gold mount in swindon wiltshire keep up the good work, will show this to carolus from weston not so super mare, she cant keep her hands of the yanks.
what a find of a life time! WOW one little gold coin in a HUGE field , what are the chances man its what we do this hobby for isnt it? wow big congrats!
Such a shame you have to sell it. The money will be nice but the coin is an amazing find. Incredible video. I've watched it 3x now and it still amazes.
@bllsmb from what i understand, and i could be wrong , you have to sell it to the museum only if they decide its an important historical find or if its considered a hoard ( more than one coin in the hole) other than that you can keep single coins ......they pay pretty handsomely anyway, all coins and relics have to be reported at least and then they decide there value and what not. i think the museum or who ever would have to get an entire army to pry that gold out of my fingers....haha
That would be find of a lifetime for me.. and I detect over here every week lol. Absolutely stunning find, well done. You guys have obviously dialled in to some prime detecting land.
Right the frick on you guys, this is what gets the blood rushing!! That is one beautiful coin, so lucky the plow missed it all these years. Just goes to show what proper research before digging can result in. BTW. Went to my local park for my first ever dig today and was not disappointed, nothin like you guys find but was a blast, I'm buying and F75!
That baby was sweeeeet! If he would have did the gold dance,he would have blacked out! Way to go Mark! And thanks for posting this Ron! This is what we all dream of.Marks dream came true! Hope you can post the auction if it is allowed!
Nice coin, very beautiful to look at. Could Mark simply buy the farmer's half of the value and thereby keep the coin? If not, could he buy it at the auction?
The Roman Empire, Claudius, 50 – 54, Aureus 46-47, AV 7.73 g. TI CLAVD CAESAR AVG P M TR P VI IMP XI Laureate head r. Rev. PACI – AVGVSTAE Pax-Nemesis advancing r., holding caduceus in l. hand pointing at snake and raising fold of drapery below chin. Worth at least $20000. Congrats!
Please keep us posted with the results of the ending price of the auction of the gold coin. WOW! Very exciting... Can you do a vid of the auction. Vid of the homeowner and Mark. Tell us how you found out about your trip to England was this a group/ business trek? I am so excited for you. A friend of mine went to Jimmy Sierra's trip in England and had a blast?
Perfect condition! An Aureus from Nerone goes for about 10000 Euro over here in Italy. The laws are very different over here but thats another story. Thanks again for another vid Ron and Congrats to Mark.
Ron, what are the rules regarding finding this coin? is he required to put it up for auction? I bet he hates parting with that baby....great find and great video as always!
