Gold Aureus, Lugdunum, AD 46-47, TI CLAVD CAESAR AVG P M TR P VI IMP XI, laureate head right, rev PACI AVGVSTAE, Pax-Nemesis advancing right, pointing caduceus at snake.

Such a coin was sold at Baldwin´s auctions for 6678 USD or 4200 GBP

Congratulations!!!

BTW: As a coin collector I would never sell such an awesome coin ;)

Very nice, i bet the Roman who lost that coin would never of imagined that a few thousand years down the line a guy from a far away land will pick it up out of the earth. You have given me some inspiration again... i'm going metal detecting tomorrow now. I live near a major Roman road, so hopefully there is one for me also stuck in it's earth prison. :)

one thing i dont like about the england hunts is if you find anything good like a gold coin , you cant never keep it, so whats the point of going if ya dont get to keep your gold.

@nuggetnoggin Not true. Of the 10 gold coins I have found I got to keep 9 of them. 1 was part of a hoard purchased by the Museum and I got half the value from the sale. Any gold coins we find we pay the farmer a portion of the value. Thats the fair thing to do, and we get to keep the coin. Watch Englands Treasure Laws 101 it explains the treasure act. in easy terms.

@nuggetnoggin Most coins are common and you pay 30 to 50 pounds 50 to 100 US dollars. This Roman gold is a rare one. It will go fro auction at spinks and probably sell for more than 6,000 pound. Mark who found it will get half of whatever it sells for.

@bllsmb from what i understand, and i could be wrong , you have to sell it to the museum only if they decide its an important historical find or if its considered a hoard ( more than one coin in the hole) other than that you can keep single coins ......they pay pretty handsomely anyway,  all coins and relics have to be reported at least and then they decide there value and what not. i think the museum or who ever would have to get an entire army to pry that gold out of my fingers....haha
